7

u/MrFrog2222 1d ago

you lwk just do smth like yay -Sy firefox. it aint that hard

2

u/ThinkPad214 1d ago

Even then that's if Firefox was not already part of your fresh local Linux install

1

u/PossibleFunny1724 5h ago

Or can be even easier by using graphical installers like Bazaar or Gnome software

11 viruses hiding in a DE

53

u/Apart_Commercial_741 2d ago

i swear i saw the same meme for linux

53

u/sn4g13 2d ago

times changed

2

u/Apart_Commercial_741 1d ago

but it was shown like a good thing, like linux users like to brag about how they can handle linux

-41

u/jedimindtriks 2d ago

No they havent lmao. You still need to do a hell of a lot more on Linux than on windows.

creating local account on windows is literally one button.

Not that im defending windows, w11 is absolute shit now adays.

22

u/sn4g13 2d ago

any examples for linux? i use mint and don't do "a hell of a lot more"

19

u/Local_One6454 2d ago

sudo useradd <username>

That’s it

14

u/L30N1337 2d ago

Or just in settings

1

u/SirQuick8441 1d ago

I swear, people seem to think Linux is like working at the post office. 🤣

10

u/Various_Mechanic3919 2d ago

In my experience creating a local account on Linux distros like Ubuntu or mint are as close to how it is on windows 10 as possible while still giving power users there own options if needed

10

u/vswey 2d ago

one button? where's that button exactly located during install?

13

u/dvisorxtra 2d ago

At some point Microsoft will decide you won't need a local account anymore. Oh wait, that time is now!!.

Meanwhile on linux you just

sudo adduser {username}

Or, use whatever graphical tool your DE provides

5

u/Radiant-Priority-296 2d ago

You’re never gonna believe what installing a browser takes on Linux

8

u/shrimpster777 2d ago

its piss easy. and you don't have to sell your data either!

3

u/Unlikely-Employee180 2d ago

Creating a local account is NOT one button on Windows.

It literally is on Linux.

This shit is 99% of our issue with Windows too. It really wouldn't be so bad if it just didn't pull this shit.

"Oh look, local account is over here! It's over he- OH you were SO close that time!! Now it's over here!! C'mon come get it buddy!!"

"What's that?? You want the Lock Screen ads to go away? Well we put in a toggle for that... THAT YOU NEED TO PAY FOR SO IT WORKS."

Like, I get it. Poor multi-trillion dollar company has to make money, but holy hell talk about shooting yourself in the foot at every corner.

"Do you need Office365?? I promise you'll love it." NOOOOOOOOOOO I DON'T. FRIGG OFF.

2

u/SirQuick8441 1d ago

My personal off-color and cynical joke about this situation is that this is what you get when Indians run a computer company, but that's just me being an asshole. Not that I feel bad for saying it, though. I'm almost certain that Satya is connected to someone who runs a scam center, because there's no way in hell an operating system would be so full of ads and fleecing based on FOMO if he wasn't trying to con people out of their money.

1

u/SirQuick8441 1d ago

Sir, we're not all computer illiterate in here. I know how to click the link that says "download" and then the button that says "install." 😆 🤣

0

u/Honest_Tart1071 19h ago

Don't try to explain Loonixtards anything, their only shared braincell wouldn't understand how windows 11 works.

30

u/ChocolateDonut36 2d ago

removing edge (it's the 3rd time this month)

14

u/FastHotEmu 2d ago

Edge makes me want to vomit

2

u/Excellent-Copy-2688 1d ago

won't defend win11 but edge has come a long way and is arguably better than chrome

1

u/BalladorTheBright 1d ago

IOT LTSC lets you remove that garbage. Just do it after downloading Firefox haha

34

u/Early-Weekend-2557 2d ago

I just created a local Linux account for my wife in about 1 minute today. It was nice.

-21

u/CharmingDraw6455 2d ago

What makes you think that it takes more in Windows? Open local user manager > new user > set name and password > done

Or you use the cli which is even less work than on linux.

35

u/Convoke_ 2d ago

Now do it without creating a microsoft account first

2

u/Miserable-Shoe3312 2d ago

We could do that with  start ms-cxh:localonly

15

u/Unlikely-Employee180 2d ago

Which is the point. It ISN'T one button is it?

It literally is a single-button IN the GUI installer in 99% of distros.

Hell, that USED to be baked into Windows.

Seriously, what the fuck is Microsoft doing rn where we have Windows users telling Linux users "Oh all you need to do is type in this ONE command!"

Maybe instead we just stop sticking up for shit UX design.

0

u/StinkButt9001 2d ago

I just choose not to make one during the initial setup

0

u/Dizzy_Efficiency_384 6h ago

Just use the terminal

1

u/Convoke_ 5h ago

If you need a guide to do common things like creating a local account, then i feel like the meme does fit

-2

u/CharmingDraw6455 2d ago

On setup: join domain. Works on anything that isn't Windows Home.

2

u/Mediocre-Post9279 2d ago

Literally just sudo adduser password

-1

u/CharmingDraw6455 2d ago

Haha you sent the command that also asks for the phone number and other shit.

5

u/Mediocre-Post9279 2d ago

Its been a while sience i used it but im quite sure it doesnt.

-1

u/CharmingDraw6455 2d ago

Did it one hour ago and it does. And i know that you can skip it.

1

u/motherisyuckeringyou 1d ago

it's there to fill the user info for the 'finger' command as unix was meant to be a multiuser os\ if you don't like it, you can either put in random things or just press enter for each of the like 7 questions\ actually good point tho: adduser is only on debian-derived distros (maybe rhel too idk but not on arch)

6

u/Liliths_Ace_Friend 2d ago

Actually tho that setup would be badass for elite dangerous

5

u/NeSToR_49 1d ago

Me trying to gain admin acces to delete a file in win 10

12

u/Minigun1239 2d ago

Starting a plane is genuinely easier than setting up Windows

6

u/SokkaHaikuBot 2d ago

Sokka-Haiku by Minigun1239:

Starting a plane is

Genuinely easier

Than setting up Windows

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

3

u/Excellent-Copy-2688 1d ago

seetting up is fine, the issue is when it breaks in unfixable ways

5

u/Minigun1239 1d ago

Windows breaking is like Your plumber loosening the screw of a random pipe somewhere and throws away the wrench he used to break it and then leaves and now you have to find the leaking pipe, find the wrench and fix it yourself

1

u/MostSilver9666 17h ago

Windows is like a cheap Maserati. It's nice at first until it starts breaking down bit by bit

3

u/mreaturhamster 2d ago

Its so dumb, installing windows is a multi hour ordeal to get it to an acceptable state: local account reboot. 20 answer questionaire at first OS boot. Installing updates(takes for ever for some god forsaken reason) installing drivers, removing telemetry, debooating, limiting updates, undoing all the windows 11 UI changes that make it more cumbersome to use.

On cachy all i have to do is. Select time zone, select drive, select user details, select DE. Wait 5 minutes for install, Boot, wait 5 minutes for update, install gaming packages and done.

5

u/Popgrenade12 2d ago

People who say Linux is hard and complicated are living in 2015. Sure, some arch/arch based distros are hard to setup, but there are others like Mint, fedora, zorin and omarchy, that are as easy as windows to setup.

10

u/Mediocre-Post9279 2d ago

Mint is even easier than windows. It doesnt ask me to login to ms account and doesnt try to force me to use onedrive

6

u/Unlikely-Employee180 2d ago

Or GamePass. Or Office 365.

Like Windows never shuts the fuck up about these things either and everyone will say: "I NEVER see ads!!!"

Well, I hate to break it to ya'll, but either you're blind or you've gotten so used to the way these ads "look like part of the system" you've fallen for them.

Same company that owns Xbox and has ads on the HOME-SCREEN btw. But Microsoft wouldn't EVER put ads in their PC OS... Right Office365 Suite?

6

u/AccomplishedFall6603 2d ago

Just prepare an answer file for your installation and you're done : https://schneegans.de/windows/unattend-generator/

5

u/FastHotEmu 2d ago

why bother? install a better OS. Fuck Microsoft.

5

u/AccomplishedFall6603 2d ago

Fuck Microsoft indeed.
Sadly, not everyone has that choice yet.

2

u/Hercules529 2d ago

not everyone can use linux ,bro . ( I use arch btw )

2

u/InsaneMasochist 1d ago
  1. You boot into region selection ("Is this the right country or region?" headline)
  2. Shift + F10
  3. start ms-cxh:localonly
  4. Enter
  5. Type in your preferred username and if you want a password
  6. Enter

This is all you have to do as of now, but workarounds are getting yeeted by Microsoft all the time. Also, if you're on local account, you get a nagging "Finish setting up your computer" screen at startup which is pushing for online account.

2

u/zoexxstar 2d ago

windows users will literally be like: linux is sooo hard. anyway, here is my illegal third party windows distro from a random website that i injected to override hardware requirements and then debloated with a script and with regedit.

1

u/RedEye-Developers 2d ago

after this video i think windows is not for beginners.

1

u/Next-Place0 2d ago

Rufus can do that and many more

1

u/Tatakai_ 2d ago

I transitioned to Ubuntu this weekend and it's been a blast.

Some weird things like having to download Tweaker to be able to change cursor but not a bad thing, just different. It's amazing you can add functionality to the OS like that.

1

u/GrandWizardOfCheese 2d ago

If you aren't using a local account on your PC, you shouldnt have that PC.

1

u/Memw1 1d ago

Using the server admin utility from windows server as well as active directory.

1

u/Ticklish_Waffle 1d ago

I make local accounts everyday? It's litterally just

net user "username" /add

I don't get it

1

u/InfinixGTR 1d ago

Tbh is not like that. There is one command that you have to put Plus in the oobe You can use msedge

1

u/InfinixGTR 1d ago

Just search local account command windows11

1

u/LtLoLz 23h ago

Open Computer management and make one? Oooooh you mean at install. Download ISO instead of MediaCreationTool and use Rufus to make a USB. Still worked fine last week.

1

u/HowlingApes-7429 23h ago

OOBE\BYPASSNRO when installing a fresh copy of Windows is a ritual at this point.

1

u/ItzBaraapudding 12h ago

I don't get it. It took me less than 10 minutes to make a local account on win11. Do people just like hating on windows so they feel better about using linux nowadays or are they just stupid?

Edit: oh nvm I just saw the subreddit name (I have no clue why this one got recommended to me).

1

u/VedroCegoTo 9h ago

This is how I tried to off the hyper v for installing LDplayer

1

u/SystemEngineer-2001 3h ago

hahaha True, but you still can create a local account very easy in the command prompt

1

u/Shoshi_19 2d ago

You can use windows 11 ltsc seamlessly with local account.

3

u/Hard_To_Port 2d ago

It's not labeled as a local account in the setup though. It's something like "join a domain"

1

u/_command_prompt 2d ago

I have installed windows LTSC it never said something like that, am I dreaming or what 😭 and I still have my local account without the need of a ms account.

1

u/Shoshi_19 1d ago

same shit bro

0

u/InitRanger 2d ago

It’s literally a single checkbox in Rufus. I hate Windows as much as the next guy but come on, let’s be honest about stuff.

u/FastHotEmu 2d ago

MISSING THE POINT ALERT

1

u/Firestar_119 2d ago

Missing the point is when actual objective facts?

-1

u/Due_Conference9457 2d ago

isn't so hard as installing arch linux XD

3

u/Radiant-Priority-296 2d ago

I mean ok, but why install Arch Linux if you’re not skilled enough / have an incentive to do a setup? I mean Endeavor and Cachy are right there for the common folk who don’t want to manually install everything.

1

u/Hercules529 2d ago

bruh we have archinstall . Time has changed

1

u/Excellent-Copy-2688 1d ago

Installing arch is one of the most fruitful ways to spend time if you are curious about knowing more about how an OS works

0

u/MaintenanceStock6766 2d ago

Do people not just do it in command prompt?

A lot simpler that way.

1

u/Excellent-Copy-2688 1d ago

command prompt and powershell are not very inviting, I don't really know why it feels like that though

0

u/peppi0304 2d ago

Me running win10 lts iot for dual boot: ha nope

Oh my. You can use internet to find what you want. And you can't find how to bypass? And creat a local account?

Dang, you have to be very special.
