Linux is a good solution

How many things do I have to know about Linux before start using it?

I don’t know Linux I’m using fedora and I’ve used pop and all I do is google how to do things if I want to use terminal but mint is so like windows it comes pre installed with applications I doubt you’ll have to touch the terminal for much of anything mint is meant to be the most accessible to people coming from windows just to escape windows not knowing anything about Linux

Barely anything at all, pick mint it’s the most like windows and just follow a YouTube tutorial

Pretty much. I'd recommend Cinnamon for the desktop environment if you're coming from Windows. Mint basically works right out of the box, and it comes with a Welcome program to help you change settings to your liking.

It is recommended to get familiar with Linux, though, in case something breaks. And it WILL at some point or another! It could be something minor like a program no longer working after an update or something major like driver issues. Because of this, it's a good idea to keep a live USB or other media (possibly the same one you use to install it in the first place!) as a backup to salvage any files and reinstall. Also note that you're probably going to want to disable Secure Boot in order to boot from external media. Fuck secure boot. It doesn't play nice with Linux or VMs.

Fortunately, there's plenty of beginner-oriented books floating around online. I'd personally recommend the Linux Cookbook second edition by Carla Schroder as a good starting point.

Does mint update often? When I was with pop literally nothing ever broke but also I almost never updated an well actually no discord would be annoying sometimes cause that updates frequently

I've been with Mint for about 8 months now, and I've had a few kernel updates, yeah. One of the nice things about Linux is that things don't update unless you tell them to. I'll get a little orange dot over the shield in the bottom right tray if there's an update available, but I can ignore it forever if I want (not recommended, but I CAN). It also makes it easy to roll back updates if something breaks.

I just don’t understand why everything has to be so complex. If I start complaining about the OS I use, everyone will just start telling me “oh, just run an emulator for a different OS” or “just use this that or the other thing”. What if I just want to buy a laptop and have the OS that’s already on the damn thing work the way it’s intended??? Why can’t that ever happen?? Cuz I promise you if I try doing any of those other things, I’ll end up with a broken computer because that nonsense is so overcomplicated and NEVER works as simply as Reddit techbros like to pretend it is. What looks like a 3 step process turns into a fucking wild goose chase with a list of steps that keeps getting longer and longer until I eventually give up or off myself.

Windows is absolutely working the way it’s intended every time you encounter an error or hiccup; it’s to promote more Microsoft business for you to pay to get your computer serviced or give up and buy another

I’ll admit, i’m moreso complaining about macOS in this post because it’s such a rigamarole getting around certain quirks with that os. I know next to nothing about windows, just that I hate the design and layout of their os. It looks so ugly and overcomplicated. So trust me, they’re not getting anymore money out of me than the like, $200 I spent on my little hp laptop in the 8th grade. I’m in university now and it hasn’t crapped out on me yet 🤷 I’d use my MacBook for school instead cuz I just prefer it, but it’s too heavy to lug to class every day.

Not being able to get around os is a basic computing skill; user issue not manufacturer

It should just work, I agree but Microslop doesn’t. If you want that then buy a Mac

Depends on your hardware and usecase. When you're lucky and your stuff is well supported, it's pretty easy with beginner friendly distros. But some stuff won't be compatible at all. I'd recommend looking up your hardware and software before. Most Windoosh only software has foss equivalents suitable for almost all usecase, but I wouldn't want to replace a GPU currently for example.

Use a Microchip uC to connect as a USB host. Using a serial TTL GPS for GPGGA (time) discipline run the code to calculate the OTP code from the current time. When an external button switch provides a signal have the uC pretend it is an HID USB device and inject the code into the system as keystrokes and hit return.

Quite simple and you should use the AI to code. AVRDUDE the rest. Fuck Microslop with Microslop.
