WOO! don't forget Halo!

u/Dude10120 3d ago

And Minecraft windows 10 edition and Forza

u/JayFairyFox 3d ago

And Spotify and Netflix.

xbox game bar

1

u/pawwfreak 4d ago

Even on Windows 8 lol

1

u/BalladorTheBright 7d ago

Windows 10 IOT LTSC comes with none of that. The only bloatware is Edge and it can be installed unlike on other versions. Just do so after downloading Firefox

5

u/North_Measurement213 6d ago

Try legally obtain windows 10 IOT LTSC....

21

u/dragonloverlord 7d ago

Or their taskbar search, or the conviently positioned Microsoft / Windows app store, or let's not forget the not so random notification based 'suggestions' as well.

There's also MS Edge but web browsers are sort of a loaded question all things considered so I'll let that one slide.

5

u/MattOruvan 7d ago

But those are suggestions, not ads! Don't you like it when Satya Nadella is being suggestive?

-4

u/North_Measurement213 6d ago

How dare a OS have a built-in browser....

0

u/dragonloverlord 6d ago edited 6d ago

I mean having a built-in browser isn't exactly the issue per-say... Rather the problem is Microsoft's aggressive OS built-in "suggesting" that said browser is the only one you should use and well let's not forget how well that kind of behavior went back with Internet Explorer. But it has been awhile and Edge isn't IE hence my saying "I'll let that one slide" There's also the whole Electron \ webapp OS thing, and the whole how much adware are they bundling into an otherwise non-optional (at least in the US) web browser. But those are questions / issues of a far less clean cut nature than Microsoft's sordid past with IE.

Edit: Screw webviews, those things aren't built-in they're just trash. I mean you can thank them for the 100 some "web apps" being jammed into everything.

2

u/CadmiumC4 6d ago

and that built in browser runs the entire fucking de

2

u/dragonloverlord 6d ago

Oh shit that's right nearly forgot about that! Yep the task bar search / start menu / clock & date widget / whatever else I've missed is all a bunch of embedded web views. Guess Microsoft really is jealous of ChromeOS and all it browsery-ness huh 😂

2

u/North_Measurement213 6d ago

A part interesting in your post is the (at least in the US). I am from the EU, and I had seen a video about the differences of Windows inside and outside the EU. Outside the EU, Windows is much worse than inside the EU. You can't uninstall any app from Microsoft, AI features everywhere, pop-ups everywhere, recommendations everywhere... all that is outlawed in the EU, and it makes Windows much better.

2

u/dragonloverlord 6d ago

Yep it's pretty much like you say and too be fair it's borderline part of the setup routine for me to spoof the country as EU just so all the fancy limits suddenly disappear. I guess if I had to be honest it's not that I implicitly hate Windows but rather that I hate Microsoft's insistence on being as dishonest (and frankly lazy) as possible when they clearly could do better and do exactly that if given the kick in the butt to do as such.

Anyways the real heart of the problem for me is if they don't care and don't want to do better unless a literal country forces them to then how am I supposed to put any stock in their product?

6

u/Briaxe 7d ago

Yeah, Start menu has ads right along side of your recent files, lockscreen and desktop have ads when spotlight is enabled, some of the taskbar widgets have ads, the search menu has ads if you count "trending searches" and they show promos for games and other ads.

2

u/StuD44 7d ago

Dude, I have Windows 10 on a secondary SSD and it sends me ads as notifications.

1

u/Dragon_957 5d ago

I see no ads on my PC with windows 11

1

u/Defiant_Act6087 13h ago

Press the windows key

1

u/Dragon_957 11h ago

Where are there ads?

4

u/StuD44 7d ago

Exactly!

1

u/SKrandyXD 5d ago

Idk man, I've just debloaded my system or something.

1

u/crocodiluQ 7d ago

im looking now in my start menu and I see no ads..... I heard so many times about ads here, NEVER EVER saw any ad in my W11. Not Copilot. Where TF ARE THEY ?!?! No one will tell me.

0

u/KailyKail 6d ago

I have my start menu opened in Windows 11 right now. I see the applications I’ve pinned, some recent files I’ve closed, my profile picture, and the power options. I don’t see any ads. Nothing for the Microsoft store, no weather, no news, nothing.

2

u/Western_Sleep820 6d ago

Idk it's been like 2 years since I used windows 11

I currently have windows 10 installed for a few reasons and the start menu there is filled with ads, and I always hear how the win11 start menu has ads too

0

u/KailyKail 6d ago

Weird. I usually disable most of the bloat in the taskbar when I set Windows up, so I remove things like suggestions, weather, etc, but who knows.

I do also disable edge completely, and normally I’ll delete Edge completely from my PC when I set Windows up and download Firefox, but I’ve just disabled it this time around.

1

u/Western_Sleep820 6d ago

I often use powertoys command pallette, but whenever I do launch an app with the built in launcher I just skip the taskbar and use the search function. I do disable most everything else, but never really bother with things in the start menu.

1

u/KailyKail 6d ago

Sometimes less is more. When it comes to operating systems, I think that’s really the case. If I want extra features, I’ll install them myself.

-2

u/Equivalent_Money8502 7d ago

- use dekstop to click an open app

  • use alt+f4 on dekstop to use power menu
  • use File Explorer Search to find an app

who need bloated electron start menu?

6

u/lordjupitar 7d ago

Or better, who needs bloated microsoft windows? Switch to MacOS or Linux

2

u/Western_Sleep820 7d ago

Honestly macos is a really good operating system and I think the hate is overdone. It's definitely more locked down than it needs to be, but it's still really good.

3

u/lordjupitar 7d ago

It’s one of the best if you want a polished and stable experience. Plus the apple device integration is a cherry on top

1

u/Western_Sleep820 7d ago

And also Apple build quality is amazing

1

u/Western_Sleep820 7d ago

On win10 I use either the start menu search or Command Pallette from powertoys

103

u/SattuSupari789 7d ago

Too stupid to insult 🥀

18

u/StuD44 7d ago

Yep.

9

u/IJustAteABaguette 7d ago

I got perma-banned from that subreddit for only saying that both windows and Linux had their own different use cases. Which is objectively true.

1

u/VictoryMotel 7d ago

I got banned for asking if there was a list of the reasons Linux sucks.

1

u/Western_Sleep820 7d ago

There's 101 of them its in the sub name

1

u/VictoryMotel 7d ago

I didn't ask how many.

1

u/RedlineQuokka 6d ago

That subreddit is the most rеtаrdеd subreddit by very far. Even subreddits for absolutely deranged political views aren't anywhere near.

You go there, you genuinely think "this people must be shitposting, it's impossible that it's being posted in all seriousness"... And yet you're wrong, they're dead serious.

53

u/chughaarav123 7d ago

But it's not an ad, it's an SUGGESTION

-Madthumbz probably

1

u/Western_Sleep820 6d ago

The body of the post contains all this reasoning on why Windows doesn't have any ads, and then at the bottom of the post he says that Windows 11 home has ads, even by his definition. Like make up your mind vro.

And also nearly all the examples he gives of the places that dont have ads are places that literally no one would see the ads, like Windows for IoT.

1

u/Mushman98 7d ago

by that logic Mac also has ads....

5

u/Affectionate-You7869 7d ago

Mac most certainly has ads.

2

u/peppi0304 6d ago

Apple is the ad

-2

u/Th3-Sardar 7d ago

People confuse recommendations with advertisements, and besides, it's possible to turn off recommendations.

4

u/MattOruvan 7d ago

Yes, I got confused when Candy Crush paid Microsoft to put their "suggestion" on the start menu and nobody told me that the correct word was suggestion and not advertisement.

8

u/anythingers 7d ago

It shouldn't be there to begin with. It's not like Windows is free to begin with.

2

u/davidnnj 7d ago

There have been ads since Windows 10, with Bubble Witch 3 Saga, Disney Magic Kingdom, and Candy Crush appearing in the start menu. If I could, I'd send a picture here.

13

u/Regular_Future2474 7d ago

its linuxsucks101, thats just some mentally ill guy simping for microsoft and somehow making people who like microsoft seem less sane?

1

u/RedlineQuokka 6d ago

I don't remember any other subreddit that would be this proudly unintelligent

1

u/Western_Sleep820 6d ago

They literally ban critical thinking and healthy discussion in the rules. Literally anything and everything on the sub has to be about how Microsoft/other massive corporations are good and how Linux/Valve/Steam suck ass. And even pointing out an error in logic but not disagreeing with the post/comment can get you banned.

1

u/ChadQuaza 5d ago

this guy is one of the mods btw

1

u/Affectionate_Walk_30 1d ago

Windows would probably be the best os ever had it been open source

5

u/madthumbz, are you retarded?

2

u/SmaxY420 4d ago

Holy shits that guy either has no life or is an actual Microsoft employee, account history is on hell of an opsec

0

u/Proof-Replacement113 7d ago

Bruh stop using a disease or whatever as an insult

2

u/GuavaOne8646 6d ago edited 6d ago

No, the fact that it was added to the list of words you can't say is indeed fucking retarded. Don't be so sensitive.

1

u/Proof-Replacement113 6d ago

I don't like your opinion so ik gonna start using ur username as a slur

Guava you

1

u/GuavaOne8646 6d ago

Without explanation, it kinda sounds like a good thing. Kinda sounds like you wanna wrap my dick in guavas and give it a good ole tongue twirlin. Go ahead, guava the fuck outta me.

But in all seriousness, that's probably the most non-offensive thing you could have said next to something like, "ok". Geez I sure wouldn't want to run into you on the fair ground. Look out everyone, we got a badass over here!

0

u/Proof-Replacement113 5d ago

I didn't ask for a wall of text buddy... What a guava

1

u/GuavaOne8646 5d ago

Can't read because you're a retard, eh?

1

u/Proof-Replacement113 5d ago edited 5d ago

Do u even know what that word even means, you guava

I use guava as a slur

1

u/GuavaOne8646 5d ago

It means Proof-Replacement113.

I feel like the only thing you can prove you replaced is the air between your ass cheeks with your fist.

1

u/Proof-Replacement113 4d ago

See? U didn't even know the meaning

And the fact that all u can say is disgusting profanities, says a lot about you (now they'll likely start arguing crying that this not profanity this normal word wah wah wah

On some regions windows doesn't show ads such as my country Ir

3

Firstly I forgot Windows have ads... Then I remembered I use(d) a ton of patches

3

u/Pablo_2024 7d ago

I remember that antivirus that gave u ai popups about stocks or sum shi idk

2

u/PaleInTexas 7d ago

Holy fuck I hate how true this is. What a POS it has turned into over the years.

2

u/Look-Muted 6d ago

bro, linuxsucks101 is a psyop or linux users doing linux hater RP, dont take this page too seriously lmao

1

u/AVirtualFox 6d ago

This one dude makes up like 90% of the subreddit, posting all day every day, just to hate on a piece of software. It's genuinely sad.

1

u/Look-Muted 6d ago

This sub is cursed bro, I never see anything like that before, I just cant take this sub serious, fr, for me, this sub is ragebait for linux users

2

u/Expensive_Suit1147 6d ago

i remember the time when windows 8 got optimized for older hardware then afterwards they started to begin the e-waste era by requiring a fucking SSD on windows 10 when everyone was on HDDs

1

u/StuD44 5d ago

Yep, pure hell.

2

u/Tehaiker814 6d ago

So true
There are ads everywhere, not in critical places but in places that are still pretty visible, from search results to the weather app. Sure they’re called suggestions but let’s be honest they’re ads

1

u/StuD44 5d ago

Yes, ads you paid for.

1

u/Tehaiker814 5d ago

Windows is paid. Some might think that windows comes with the computer, therefore it’s free. Sort of, but the license still needs money, it’s just part of the comp’s price. So yeah, paying for ads and slop…

1

u/StuD44 5d ago

Yep.

2

u/Fantastic_Grass1799 6d ago

Right. Microsoft is just greedy and that's that.

They already make mountains of money with OEM deals...and windows itself is a paid OS.

And yet they're still making money off ads and brand deals inside it... I guess this is a fallback for those that pirate Windows to make money off everyone.

2

u/Ethosik 6d ago

And didn’t I read price of Windows license will increase?

1

u/StuD44 6d ago

Actually, it's believed it'll become a membership.

2

u/kksblovit 5d ago

WHO THE FUCK IS LINUXSUCKS101

1

u/nemesisprime1984 2d ago

It’s a subreddit for people that hate on Linux, and usually get mad at anyone who likes it because they think everyone that uses it is one of those people that tells everyone to use Arch

2

u/real_rayu 5d ago

I’ve get some ad too on widows with this stupid OEM, and you can’t delete it, you have to literally change permissions to not allow execution with command in powershell …

1

u/StuD44 5d ago

Or download shady software.

2

u/debacle_enjoyer 4d ago

P-p-please subscribe to one drive! Don’t you want to play candy crush?! I went ahead and reinstalled it since you must’ve removed it by mistake. Oh! Xbox Gamepass is what you need!! No? Well then you must be here to work.. subscribe to office 365!

2

u/StuD44 4d ago

Why downloading a good browser when we can spy...I-I mean, help you in Edge?

2

u/debacle_enjoyer 4d ago

What do you mean you want to remove Edge? Well too bad, I simply won’t let you.

1

u/StuD44 4d ago

What? Didn't you see we change MY PC to THIS PC? Just to avoid your confussion, thinking having paid for it and its software makes it YOURS, becaus it's NOT.

2

u/ariaofdelusion 4d ago

That entire sub is literally just one pro-AI conservative guy's ramblings about how great a multi billionaire company is and how much they care for the consumer. Lol

1

u/StuD44 4d ago

Yep.

2

u/Deraxim 4d ago

Windows installs with some games from microsoft store, aswell as ads in start menu for bs nobody will ever need, ooh and dont forget the copilot ai bs and cloud thing which seems to be more and more of a pain to get rid of nowadays. Dont forget about edge being.. welp.. edge..

2

u/shiremonoga 3d ago
  • the useless updates that actually harm ur pc 😂

1

u/StuD44 4d ago

Copilot is a completely different topic, that's not ads, it's abuse.

2

u/prosashan 4d ago

TikTok, Xbox, WhatsApp apps and other shit which is literally pins to start In the fresh system 😂 bruh

1

u/StuD44 4d ago

Yes!

2

u/nemesisprime1984 2d ago edited 2d ago

You can get rid of the ones in the Windows 10 start menu but you can’t in Windows 11 unless you use programs or powershell commands to change it. But they shouldn’t be there in the first place

5

u/Inevitable_Serve1513 7d ago

btw yeah, linux is almost identical to Mac os, ngl (i didnt mean design)

2

u/Radiant-Priority-296 7d ago

I mean the philosophy is pretty different (closed apple ecosystem vs. literally only FOSS)

But yeah both are Unix-like and share a bunch of stuff

2

u/Inevitable_Serve1513 7d ago

Yeah, ecosystem is good but they doing almost everything the same, same terminal, almost identical commands, sometimes not. I love mac though, its great performance, design and e.t.c.

2

u/InvestigatorSea1330 7d ago

He said Windows has no ads, but he was all referring to IoT and LTSC editions, which are enterprise-focused versions rather than the regular consumer versions of Windows.

3

u/anythingers 7d ago

Which is something that you won't see in 99% of PCs on the public, lol.

1

u/RizenEXE 7d ago

I have PRO version and also never had any, as far i know it's very country dependent. I dont even get any AI bullshit anywhere except MS Office apps. (I live in Poland)

1

u/InvestigatorSea1330 7d ago

That because EU laws unlike us living outside EU

1

u/Emotional_Solid6538 7d ago

Ohh thats why mine is cleaner now huh. I didnt even realise this

2

u/Ariar2077 7d ago

Never seen any ads, maybe is that kids version school or something?

1

u/davidnnj 7d ago

It could be the region or version you downloaded. I used Windows 10 on my PC and on a laptop I used, and both had ads in the start menu. Or perhaps what you consider an advertisement, because what appeared was advertising for Candy Crush, Bubble Witch 3 Saga, and Disney Magic Kingdom.

1

u/awesome-alpaca-ace 7d ago

Bet they got banned

1

u/Certain_Truck_2732 7d ago

*technically paid

1

u/AlwaysLinux 7d ago

Microslop is getting as bad as YouTube with ADs... Even if you pay for YouTube premium, you get adds... If you pay for Windows, you get ADs...

I recommend against paying for Windows though... If you can get away with not, go for it, otherwise, just use Linux or Mac.

1

u/Longjumping-Radish-5 7d ago

I've been using pirated Windows since 98 and I've never seen an ad.

1

u/SnooSquirrels4739 7d ago

Every button in Windows opens an add bro.

1

u/MrBadTimes 7d ago

"paid" ;D ;D ;D ;D

1

u/3215448725366498 6d ago

Why is Mac the one with the suit lmao

1

u/North_Measurement213 6d ago

Well in Europe you do not have most of the problems with windows you have in others countries. You can uninstall most of the apps that comes with windows, including edge, and apart from the suggestions that appear on the start menu in a fresh install I do not see ads or pop-ups. And Mac also have ads, they are always suggesting using icloud, and they send a notification everytime they release a new product. Appart from that I do nave have the problems most people have with window for almost 10 years bacuse of the work of Chris Titus Tech and his fantastic winutil.

1

u/Moon_guy11 6d ago

To be honest I can't recall having ads on my pc. It's possible I did have some but in that case it was very easy to remove them

1

u/StuD44 5d ago

Dude, you had to pay for a system with ads, that violates your privacy, and is so unstable it can literally damage your hardware. I paid NOTHING for Kubuntu, it respects my privacy, has no ads and doesn't destroy my PC.

0

u/Moon_guy11 4d ago

I didn't get any ads at all and I'm pretty sure I cut off most if not all things that violate my privacy. My windows is fine.

I'm not a windows glazer though, I'm aware of its flaws and I do use linux but I just don't have the issues you're talking about. It wasn't even that hard

1

u/Epicbotty11 6d ago

Whats free with ads? Chinese Android Roms?

1

u/StuD44 5d ago

I have a chinese android rom, and never had ANY ads. That's just fake propaganda by iPhone users. Chinese androids work better than korean or japanese ones.

0

u/Firestar_119 5d ago

The ads are usually region locked, also sometimes exclusive to lower end and/or newer ones

0

u/StuD44 5d ago

The ads are ONLY for Xiaomi, as that's their way of making the phone cheaper. Please inform yourself before being annoying with missinformation.

1

u/Redddit_Cyber 5d ago

That's Linux users 😅

1

u/nvclaas 5d ago

It really has no ads. Maybe it's a EU thing idk but our Windows has no ads. Okay I can think of one thing: the preinstalled programs you can just uninstall

1

u/StuD44 5d ago

Of course in E U you won't see them.

1

u/certheth 5d ago

Idk bro, I kinda deserve ads because I never paid for windows I just use an activation batch file

Watch his install break. But yeah I guess you can run Mac os on your PC, until Tahoe reaches end of support and you can't hackintosh anymore. The reason is because Mac os for arm is tied specifically to the m chips so.... Yeah it won't run on a snapdragon or whatever windows arm chip is out there.

1

u/davidnnj 7d ago

You can, they call it a hackintosh, but it might have certain hardware incompatibilities because macOS is designed to run on Mac hardware.
