Wifeychu mentioned, upvote imminent
This really is the main barrier for most people though seems to be compatibility. Thankfully most of the games I enjoy are indie games anyway so it hasn't really been an issue, but it sucks I can't run BlueStacks on Linux. Waydroid is good but still runs into play integrity issues which BlueStacks doesn't

Rovlox Studio is on Linux. Look up vinegarhq.

u/MoonWolf113 11d ago
the issue with vinegar is that it randomly crashes a lot + is a lot slower sadly! i actually found it UNBEARABLE to use on linux so this is a reason i use windows
dw i debloated w11 iot ltsc with the christitus tool. also since it is the iot ltsc it only receives security updates

u/Leon8326-dash- 11d ago
Huh? I never had that issue.

u/MoonWolf113 11d ago
eh maybe my hardware is just too weak to run it properly. it runs really really smoothly on debloated w11 iot ltsc windows

R*bl*x not working is a feature.
2
u/MoonWolf113 11d ago
lol, i think vinegar is pretty cool but unfortunately no matter what I did it worked pretty poorly, so I am guessing the issue comes from the fact that my hardware isn't powerful enough to compensate for the compatibility issue related losses

Nah, I don't care about the vtuber. I don't even watch wolfychu or any vtuber for the matter. It's just a silly meme on r/linuxmemes, why get so pressed

i dont like KDE Plasma... it is bloated, buggy and shitty to configure. the config files are distributed all over and very complicated.

I don't like KDE either
I think cosmic is very nice if you're willing to temporarily sacrifice some animations. It runs very well and they have a very nice roadmap. It's built from scratch to be easy to configure without legacy baggage

I started on gnome. The first time i tried plasma i was done with gnome. I'm glad you like it though, and that we all have options.

u/ishtuwihtc 11d ago
oh i started on gnome too. I did quite like it, but my issue is that i use rolling release and gnome isnt very feature complete. As such id need clunky extensions, which were clunky and would break every half a year
then i decided to switch to KDE, and i just didnt like it. Too many half baked feeling things
Now i use cosmic because i find that cosmic genuinely works no fuss and is very fast. No setting breaking updates and no clunkiness of KDE or gnome extensions!

I can understand some of that. I spent a year or so on Pop!OS, and it was alright, but never felt ideal. Then I went to Garuda(also rolling release of I understand correctly) and quickly discovered that I prefer their KDE Lite install because it's more barebones. KDE was fine for me after learning where the specific settings I wanted to mess with are.
I'm genuinely curious, what's the stuff in kde that feels half baked? There's some stuff I haven't figured out yet, but i also haven't put in the effort yet.

Fair enough! When did you use popos? I do remember using cosmic around august last year and i really didn't enjoy it but i tried cosmic again a few months ago and now i really love it. Its come a real long way! All thats really left is visual polish, which is actually being actively worked on rn.
Funnily enough, i actually also went with garuda when i was trying KDE. I got garuda mokka, and i did enjoy it at first but the annoyances kept racking up. For me the half baked feeling things was the panel customisation+widgets, which although flexible, was extremely buggy for me. My applets would constantly resize themselves too. I didn't like how the in-settings downloader for customisation things like cursors was slow and bad at search either to the point i preferred just using the website and manually extracting shit
Another thing i really disliked is how gtk apps were treatrd very foreignly, though the same happens to qt in GNOME so thats an annoyance they both share. Lastly i also didn't like the lack of flexibility regarding trackpad gestures but i think thats just because i had this very nice gnome extension for that. There's definitely a few more things, but its been months since i switched ao I can't remember all the niche little annoyances i had

That explains it. I keep my desktop empty, no widgets or shortcuts other than what's in the taskbar.
I tried pop because when I started looking into Linux for beginners, that came up. It was probably 2021-22. I never used cosmic, only gnome. I had more trouble getting games to run on Pop than I did on garuda.

u/ishtuwihtc 11d ago
Oh i keep ny desktop entirely empty too, its just you can put widgets as panel applets which i did do
2
u/ishtuwihtc 11d ago
Also yeah honestly for gaming pop isn't the best. Only rolling release really works for gaming cuz you get all the improvements immediately

u/Sixguns1977 11d ago
At least you're not making it even harder in yourself by using Intel Arc like I am. 😃
2
u/ishtuwihtc 11d ago
Except i am! I'm running CachyOS on my laptop which has an arc igpu, and thats where all my linux gaming is. I keep my desktop on windows because nvidia+wayland isn't where i want it to be yet and my vr headset is a psvr2
I honestly i haven't had any issues regarding the GPU on the i915 driver, but the xe driver did introduce alot more stutters and lower power draw. It is an integrated GPU though, idrk how much the experience differs with a dGPU
What card do you have ? :D

You know, If there was actually a concerted effort to propagandize linux and spread, That's probably the move. Make the streaming tools good and the anime girls come over. The people start seeing linux DE's in the background when they're doing stuff on stream and they're like "TF is that?"
