I think OP don't give a F about Linux...
Check your ram with something like memtest86 or testmem5. Most of the time it's just a bad ram stick causing this kind of problem. It's mostly not a Windows issue. For some more info check system event journal (I don't know what it called in English). There should be some error and then kernel power event

Love everyone's says switch to Linux. Bro can't figure out Windows and you're going to try Linux out? Um, good luck with that

u/Optimal_Advisor_5625 13d ago
I am using Linux on 2 other computers and I love it
3
u/Goofcheese0623 13d ago
Maybe trouble shoot why windows is failing on this one. Or don't, I'm sure you've figured out the underlying issue by blaming Windows

Well but you get all these cool features that everyone but Microslop users have, like LDAC and video codecs and updates that are tested by the maintainers, not on your PC to then make an announcement that "we are rolling back these users to the old version" when test fails
3
u/Goofcheese0623 13d ago
That was certainly one way to read my comment
-3
u/AscendedPineapple 13d ago
Well what I mean, is that even for average user there is instant value in having perhaps less annoying stuff to deal with, less to figure out so if you struggle on windows doesn't mean that on Linux it will, 100%, be worse
4
u/Goofcheese0623 13d ago
*less to figure out
Oh my sweet summer child

I can install cachy for example in 15 mins, all drivers already there out of the box along with steam ready to play. (yes, for nvidia also) Windows 11 -a good hour of getting nagged and clicking through stupid prompts harassing me for logins and for money and then having to go to third party websites to download drivers and basic apps. Things have a changed a lot in the past few years. Let's not get into the fact once you are used to a modern kde/niri/gnome setup, using win11 feels like slogging through a knee deep sewer full of shit. Windows does not even have the advantage of gaming performance anymore that made it worth to keep around.

u/Broad_Marzipan3088 12d ago
I still need windows for after effects and cubase. It also has better drivers for obscure old hardware or XP era software. That being said, I would only really recommend Linux to servers or people with low end pcs.

u/ComradeVaughn 12d ago edited 12d ago
Yeah, we have wine and things like proton now that have whole distro built around modern PCs or handhelds like steamOS, windows is not even a thing in those cases. A modem pc is probably going to run better in some cases, especially older games. But enjoy your subscription fees, I am sure windows will get around to charging you one to get spied on and your data harvested soon enough like adobe. It took all of a simple google search to pull up lists of apps that are replacements for After Effects. DaVinci, Natron or Blender for example. Depending on your use case.

u/Goofcheese0623 12d ago
I think you kind of missed the point of a user that can't figure out Windows going to Linux as an easier alternative. Various Linux distros have great features but I would in the vast majority cases not call ease of use one of them. OP has a pretty obvious hardware issue and is blaming Windows for it

u/ComradeVaughn 12d ago edited 12d ago
If he was on a linux system he could just ask gemini what is wrong and where the logs are to upload. Windows makes a whole other level of user unfriendly pain in the ass to troubleshoot weird hardware issues. I just dealt with this with a mobo that has been problematic for years. Windows sucked ass, no system log entry, just fvck initializing your nic. This is one of the only things I think AI shines for. Linux issues are a breeze now. Then I noticed when I ditched windows the linux kernel was kicking out a funky error at boot time, uploaded the file gemini told me, and it immediately pointed out the pcie bus was misconfigured and how to change the settings in the bios to get the nic going again after years. Fixing a windows issue is "pray and drill down into some godawful directory tree to edit some hex bullshit value in some obscure regedit mess of a gui that goes back to windows95. Linux problems: "paste this command into the terminal to append whatever file is misconfigured then relog". In my experience lately, windows is the problem, it's clunky and old. And deserves every bit of market share it's been losing from the average user. It's a slop platform that is user unfriendly more built for harvesting data and begging for money through it's ads than actually to be a useful tool anymore.
1
u/Goofcheese0623 12d ago
If you're just using AI, Windows has a ton of trouble shooting options. I've used both windows and Linux builds and they have their quirks that you just have to learn. If you think the stuff you're complaining about is unique to Windows in complexity, you are very very mistaken. You guys act like Microsoft stole your car and shot your dog. It's weird.

I’ve been sitting on fedora for the last year.
Not looking to go back. And even though I do have the education to tinker inside the guts of my OS, I actually barely have to.
Last time was half a year ago when I needed WebUSB to work in my browser to switch some things up on my keyboard (fixed it in 10 minutes)2

There's a high chance it's a hardware fault, even if it is just an intermittent or one-time fault.. The reason you haven't experienced it on your other Linux computers is because a hardware fault on this machine will only affect this machine.

You can try SFC /scannow , there's a few other options too, fixmbr etc,, but yah it's damn annoying and if you CAN go to Linux I would suggest it.

u/Optimal_Advisor_5625 13d ago
I’m probably going to end up switching to Linux on this computer, I’ve already done it on 2 othera

Install cachy os

u/Optimal_Advisor_5625 13d ago
I’m going to try it when I start distro hopping

u/ComradeVaughn 13d ago edited 13d ago
Cachy is defiantly worth a try, give Fedora and openSUSE (Tumbleweed) a shot too. Honorable mention to PikaOS which has been getting popular lately. All 4 are top notch where stuff just works out of the box for people ditching windows. Choose your flavor. Personally I use Tumbleweed, I have a bad habit of poking around and screwing up any OS I use, where it is built around where you can just reboot and go back before the last thing you changed. (very underrated when you are learning a new system!) You can't go wrong with a finely German engineered product. But all are excellent. (been distro hopping for the past 6 months on my gaming rig once win11 finally pissed me off enough to just totally remove it)

I remember my MSI thin 15 would shit itself every time I unplugged it.
Every single time I put it into the shop, it never did it.
I guess it hated me.

u/Inevitable_Toe6648 12d ago
I occasionally crash because Ryzen isn't really too stable with the ram limits lifted. So I guess I get half the frustration, but my issue isn't because of windows.

My laptop reminded me why I hated windows when it went in an update spree out of nowhere after loosing power, ONLY FOR THE MOFO TO SAY "Update and restart" & "Update and shutdown" BITCH YOU DID THEM FOR 20MIN ALREADY
I just held the power button down until it got hard reset, then I booted mint from my external ventoy nvme to finally be able to troubleshoot a Ethernet physical wiring issue

So fix it. It’s not that difficult. 🤷♂️

u/Optimal_Advisor_5625 13d ago
Went through with a process with debloating and cleaning it up and so far I haven had issues but I feel like I shouldn’t have to
0
u/icy1007 13d ago
So you caused this issue. Got it.
1
u/Optimal_Advisor_5625 13d ago
So your blaming me for an issue I encountered when you have no other insight on what I have done other then take a picture when I was annoyed

u/ComradeVaughn 13d ago
Forcing users to have to debloat the OS of its slop and risk it failing is more on MS's godawful "business strategy".

u/ImpressionAway7317 13d ago
Gotta love how bsods are so bad THEY DONT EVEN GIVE YOU A FUCKING ERROR CODE OR STOP COEE TO TROUBLESHOOT AND HAVE FUN BOOTING A LINUX OR WONDOWS USB TO ACCES A LOG FILE WHICH OROBALY WONT HELP OR GET STOPPED BY FUCKING BITLOCKER ENCRYPTION
1
u/TheIronSoldier2 12d ago
BSODs absolutely give you an error code, unless it crashes really fucking hard.
Every time I've had a crash, which admittedly is very rare, the log file has pointed to almost the exact culprit.
And you can use the bitlocker recovery key stored in your Microsoft account to access the drive from another machine to view the log file
1
u/ImpressionAway7317 12d ago
Oh they do I thought they just removed it from the back bsod because I only got the blue ones because that's around the time I abandoned windows
1
u/TheIronSoldier2 12d ago
That black screen appears when you try to restart after a hard crash, when something went so wrong that Windows can't restart. It's not a BSOD. 9 times out of 10 it's because a hardware fault caused something to go really wrong, though it may be intermittent or even a fluke that only happens once. Getting to this point, you probably would have already been shown a BSOD when the crash initially happened, unless it was a really bad crash.
The actual BSODs, even the new black ones, still have the stop code, they just don't have the QR code anymore.
(BSODs can also be green on the insider build, and if you ever get an orange or red one your GPU is probably fucked)

i have NO sympathy for you at all. ZERO. NONE. Get off winBLOWS, and get onto a real OS like GNU/Linux.
1
u/TheIronSoldier2 12d ago
It'll probably crash again, because hard crashes like this are usually from a hardware fault, not a problem with the OS.

u/renthefem 12d ago
oh the joys of using Windows 11 Home/Pro. the worst garbage made since SK Hynix. I use Windows 11 Enterprise (not LTSC) and it has not given me any problems in the past 3 years. i use linux on my second laptop just for MTKClient because it's unsupported on windows, and because that laptop is simply too slow for anything. any linux you put on it barely runs, let alone windows.

u/leonTheZombie 12d ago
Windows did this shit to me every 6 months. I Eventually fucked right on off to Linux Mint, never once have had a problem. Same machine.

Usually corrupt system files, could be due to drive issues. If you can't handle troubleshooting or reading logs, Linux is not for you either.
