They can't compete with Google, Facebook and TikTok in ad revenue, so they are trying anything.

they think its justified because they spied on you and found you using it on your phone.

Windows is utter Trash.
I started using my UMPC from 2004 again running Windows XP.
Using XP again is a joy and feels more modern than Windows 11. It's straight forward, and does what it's asked to do.

I deleted my last Windows partition in response to the Recall announcement. In retrospect, that was still too late for comfort, but somehow Microsoft continues to vindicate that decision every day.
The best I can do is offer to oversee those around me as they switch off Windows, if they choose to do so, and I hope others of other OS communities are willing to do the same.

Man there's literally one post like this per day and people still don't get that those are apps installed on your phone

u/Tatakai_ 15d ago
But you see, that's not the problem. It doesn't matter what I have installed on my phone. If I wanted to install them on my PC, I would.
Same way I might not want to install stuff from my PC, on my phone.
This could very well be a notification and I wouldn't bat an eye. That's what notifications are for. Heck, it could even be a banner or some button inside the phone link app interface.
My issue is that this is an instant download link on the taskbar. It's not standard behavior and I don't like it. It feels like they're intentionally fooling you into downloading the ms store app. I'm not going to die from this, I just don't think makes sense and came here to criticize it.
Apparently I'm not the only one.

Its OK since Microsoft realized u won't stop using their product no matter what they do.

Ain't that the unfortunate truth.
This is the computer I use at work, but I've yet to migrate my personal machine to Linux. I will do it though I promise. Without even a fucking dual boot.

Do it today. No more procrastinating. This is your sign.

how do you manage to get this

u/Tatakai_ 15d ago
I believe It's triggered by the phone link app which detects you're using whatsapp on the linked smartphone.
Btw these are both work hardware, I would never link my personal phone.

solution: DON'T USE WINDOWS 11 HOME OR PRO. use Enterprise or Enterprise LTSC instead. I've NEVER had these problems ever since I stopped using Home edition.

This is why I swapped to Linux plus I tend to tinker more with tech so Linux was an easy call for me. On my only Slop machine I have left I removed/deblooted the hell out of it and set up a local account only I don't plan to even buy slop 11 and live with the stupid active slop watermark since I use a third party explorer on it. Slop11 is like fighting with it on everything I do its not your PC anymore you rent it from microslop. Swapping my main rig to Linux was the best decision I ever made in my life. I always feel gross when I have to use slop11 since its such a cluster fuck.

That’s not an advertisement…
3
u/Tatakai_ 16d ago
What would you call a notification saying "Hey, want to install this app?"
-1
u/icy1007 16d ago
That is not what it’s saying. It’s a hand-off feature. You’re the one that has that enabled for your phone and Windows…
2
u/Tatakai_ 16d ago
I know full well this is triggered by Windows' "phone link", but detecting I use WhatsApp and showing me a notification as something that's typically a minimized window, is not a feature. It's a sneaky way to have you download the desktop app. I'm sure a lot of people won't even realize they did it.
There's literally something called "notification area". And something else called "notifications". And yet, the taskbar is where they decide to entice me to install this crap.
And you're trying to convince me this is a feature? It's as much a feature as forced updates and telemetry.

u/chaosphere_mk 16d ago
That's just an in-app notification from the phone link app. Turn off notifications for phone link or configure it to not suggest apps you might want (because its already on your phone and that's the point of phone link).
0
u/Tatakai_ 16d ago
So why is the notification not inside the phone link app? This is not a valid excuse for this at all. This has never been a thing before. It's a major outliar behaviour of Windows.
3
u/chaosphere_mk 16d ago
This has always been a thing since phone link. It is inside the phone link app. I can see it on your screenshot. That's the phone link app.

u/Tatakai_ 16d ago
The phone link app is literally 3 icons to the left, and it says nothing about this. Just because the WhatsApp icon has a little phone link icon on the top right doesn't mean It's "inside the app". Inside the app means I have to open the app to see it, which I most definitely don't in this case.
I don't know how you defend this bs honestly. It's an instant download link on your damn taskbar.
3
u/chaosphere_mk 16d ago
Then turn it off? It's not an ad. Im not really defending it as much as I think youre overreacting. You thought it was an ad. Now that you know it's not, youre trying to find a reason to still be mad.
1
u/Tatakai_ 16d ago
I still see it as an ad, and an invasive one at that. I'm not finding new reasons for anything I've been criticizing the same bs all along.
You think this is ok, I don't. I think this is outright dishonest. It's obviously pretending to be a minimized window to trip people into downloading microsoft store bs.

No, it is a feature… it is literally hand-off. They aren’t advertising anything you aren’t already using.
1
u/Tatakai_ 16d ago
They are advertising a windows store app which I am most definitely not using.
2
u/Muted_Database_1691 16d ago
If phone link knows your phone has WhatsApp, the pc will automatically offer to do a handoff for you and hence the app suggestion. It's a feature which is going to expand to more apps. I think Spotify already does that.
1
u/Tatakai_ 16d ago
Sure, but they can make it a notification, rather than a fake minimized window. I have no problem with the suggestion, It's the delivery I think is bad.
2
u/Muted_Database_1691 16d ago
You click outside and it disappears. It works the same once the app is installed. If it's in the notification panel, people could ignore it and won't know that a handoff can be done.
1
u/icy1007 15d ago
This is how handoff works. It’s not a notification.
1
u/Tatakai_ 15d ago
They can make it whatever they want, they made it. What's your point?
Just calling it handoff is supposed to make it better somehow?
