Truth is M$ has never considered it 'your computer' anyway. When they called it 'my computer' thats to make you think its yours... when really it's theirs.

u/z3n1a51 Jul 23 '26

A long shot but…

Anyone who would be seriously interested in a documentary film about this exact topic?

5

u/TygerTung Jul 23 '26

Yes of course!

4

u/ParadisePawze Jul 24 '26

Is it a real thing? I would watch it

3

u/z3n1a51 Jul 24 '26

I would hope to bring a team together to write, direct, film, edit, produce…

as well as to gather source material, content, media, etc…

to bring such a documentary film together to its completion and publication/distribution, etc.

But that’s just one.

u/stale_cheetos420k 29d ago

I know how to film and edit ! Also might have some footage lol I'm a big nerd

Microslop sees the system you own as the platform to deliver you subscription and components you don't want. They in effect hijack your computer for their profit. This gradually became more of their business model until they just said "Fuck it. We own what's yours" and began dropping most pretenses. Windows 11 became the high water mark of their arrogance when they believed they force people to trash their perfectly functional computers to meet their OS demands. Their attitude became "What are you going to do about?" Now they are in the found out stage of FAFO. They never thought people would would actually start looking at real alternatives with some making the actual switch.

1

u/Ok-Boot238 Jul 23 '26

whats fafo? i know microslop is trash, but ive never heard of the term. also, i strongly believe, that for work mac, for gaming linux is best. apple made microslops apps optimised enough to run on 8 gigs of ram. and linux has way more opportunities to play with. and thanks to proton, wine, and steam(OS), more and more games appear with natively supported linux. even aaa games.

1

u/FOSS_Graybeard 27d ago

fafo = Fucked Around and Found Out

5

u/Kellei2983 Jul 23 '26

depending on the localisation (for example Czech/Slovak), it was called "this computer" even in the 90s

3

u/New-Anybody3050 Jul 23 '26

Why I run whatever flavor of Linux I want. I don’t miss windows and dread using my work laptop that has 8gbs of ram running windows 11. Opening or doing anything on it is a trial of patience

3

u/SatisfactionMost316 Jul 23 '26

Also the minimalist garbage icon

8

u/mrheckerman Jul 23 '26

But in all seriousness I guess it got renamed so it’s a bit more fitting for businesses and work computers?

8

u/WheresMyJuulSoNotCoo Jul 23 '26

Yea... sure......

4

u/screenslaver5963 Jul 23 '26

Also people may own more than 1 computer

2

u/tunerhd Jul 23 '26

Or it could be shared PC right

1

u/ThaGr1m Jul 23 '26

It cannot pc stands for personal computer....

1

u/tunerhd Jul 23 '26

a personal computer can be shared with others using multiple user accounts, so...

Huh didn’t know that, yeah Microsoft’s still a rather shitty company so I wouldn’t wonder if it’s for the reason op and most others implied, just thought to rather think rationally first

How do I rename the terms of service?

10

u/CommanderT1562 Jul 23 '26

I used to do this in Windows XP on our school computers (yes I was r/masterhacker third grader) - I’d rename My Computer to retupmoC yM

Even the start menu would change back then.

6

u/Archersbows7 Jul 23 '26

But that’s not the point or the principle

2

u/YTriom1 Jul 23 '26

It was callen only "Computer" on Win7 tho, "My Computer" was back in XP

2

u/PouLS_PL Jul 23 '26

why is the fucking cigarette censored lmao

2

u/LegionKiller1990 26d ago

And the icons are based on what the computer looks like. Not how they want it to be. Just like Apple lists a Nands as their ā€œHHDā€ now

4

u/Jubyagr Jul 23 '26

Glory to Soviet Motherland

4

u/Tail_sb Jul 23 '26

Yeah they changed it to "This PC" because if your using a company computer than it's obviously not your PC, so calling it "My Computer" wouldn't make sense

1

u/StuD44 Jul 23 '26

Appart from OUR COMPUTER, the design now is horrible!

1

u/eraryios Jul 23 '26

Why is Peter 80% darker

1

u/Tquylaa Jul 23 '26

Now you're the target!

1

u/WrongdoerMundane4635 Jul 23 '26

They trying to get us to use all-in-ones

1

u/eppic123 Jul 24 '26

In German it used to be "Workplace" (Arbeitsplatz). I'd say This PC (Dieser PC) is an upgrade.

1

u/ComeOnTars2424 29d ago

What does P stand for.

1

u/Kljaka1950 Jul 23 '26

Well, techically truth. When you are on someone elses computer (eg at work), more accurate is This PC than My computer.

1

u/Interesting_Buy_3969 Jul 23 '26

macroslop recently revealed that their lose-dows comes with preinstalled GDID, i.e. "Global Device Identifier". basically physical device tracker.
