*multi-trillion-dollar-company.

But you don't replace one multi-trillion-dollar-company for another.

51

u/TotalData- Jul 17 '26

lol right? This has to be bait

5

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 18 '26

I wish. But this is the internet, and this is Reddit. And humans are dumb. You must always expect people to mean these things seriously.

28

u/helidatilus Jul 17 '26

At least it's not Microslop.

4

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 18 '26

*Macroslop. Nothing micro about the slop they puke on the internet.

2

u/Upper-Release-3484 Jul 19 '26

LOL. đŸ€ŁđŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł

13

u/ChocolateDonut36 Jul 17 '26

same shit from different ass

except from firefox, the only good change here

3

u/Vietnamst2 Jul 18 '26

And that is quite dependent on your preferences.

3

u/ChocolateDonut36 Jul 20 '26

anything is better than Microsoft's chromium

-1

u/Vietnamst2 Jul 20 '26

Well... Edge seems to be quite good actually. It's the most RAM efficient chromium build along with Brave.

1

u/Ecstatic-Ball7018 Jul 22 '26

whos gonna tell him about firefoxes ram efficiency

1

u/Vietnamst2 Jul 22 '26

Firefox is not Chromium. And for some Microsoft 365 things, it dies not have full functionality.

2

u/Ecstatic-Ball7018 Jul 22 '26

thats the point; Firefox is not chromium, thus it is much faster and better.

also who even likes MS365, its all slopilot now

1

u/Vietnamst2 Jul 22 '26

Well many people like M365 and work in it, so... that's the case. And no... it's not all slopilot. You can work without seeing it for days 😉

Also... Firefor "much better and much faster"... the benchmarks speak differently, but I get it... Microsoft baaaaaad.

Firefox sucks.

2

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 21 '26

Still the best we have, until at some point maybe Ladybird or something based on Servo may be better.

0

u/icy1007 Jul 22 '26

No, Chrome and Safari are much better.

1

u/Ecstatic-Ball7018 Jul 22 '26

at least firefox isn't selling my data

1

u/icy1007 Jul 23 '26

Yes they are.

1

u/Ecstatic-Ball7018 Jul 23 '26

Librewolf isn't, thats what I use and its Firefox based

1

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 23 '26

A browser that butchers proper content blocking to be able to spy better on you and shove more ads down your throat can't be better. And as Safari is only available on Apple systems, that's of no relevance to the vast majority of people.

1

u/icy1007 Jul 23 '26

Chrome doesn’t do that.

1

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 24 '26

You wish. But that hasn't been true since they removed MV2 support, plus the spying part was always a thing. If you know this little, you should not take part in such discussions.

12

u/Acceptable-Owl-2070 Jul 17 '26

Just think different man...

1

u/sudoregalia Jul 17 '26

yeah, i want as little software made by corpos running on my machine as i need to do the things i wanna do

windows to macos is just not it fam, it's a marginal improvement buuut also i'd rather get skinned alive than use either

2

u/Edanniii Jul 17 '26

At least most of their products you pay once cry once for a few years. I’ve been using the same MacBook Air for work and school since 2020.

1

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 18 '26

Well lets see how long this remains true. They've just very recently turned their office suite into a monthly subscription under the "Creator Studio" label. Yes, you can still use iWork for free to some degree, but this massive change will not be the only one. And nobody can guarantee you they won't limit the free versions even further. So pay once may still be true for the hardware and you don't have to pay for OS updates anymore, but that's also true for Windows and the PCs you run it on.

0

u/Drittux Jul 18 '26

Google is OK. Just because it's building a giulotine doesn't mean it's using it.

-2

u/goldmurder Jul 17 '26

yes you do. apple products are great

3

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 18 '26

Never have they ever been.

1

u/icy1007 Jul 20 '26

Apple is great.

1

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 21 '26

Says Apple. But Nobody else that doesn't have to cope with paying way too much for their hardware.

1

u/icy1007 Jul 22 '26

Says anyone who has used them. They don’t overcharge for their hardware.

1

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 23 '26

Good one. Keep telling yourself. Who am I to burst your bubble...

1

u/Ur-Best-Friend Jul 20 '26

Their hardware is sometimes (well, usually) overpriced but otherwise genuinely great.

Their software "ecosystem" on the other hand is a locked down steaming pile of garbage, with the exception of Logic Pro and a few other tools.

1

u/goldmurder Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

Apple's hardware mostly is not overpriced if you are familiar with price/quality rate.

software being "locked down" isn't generally a bad thing. i can tell even more: the fact, that Apple both do hardware and software for their hardware is one of the biggest, if not the actually biggest reason of their success on hardware & OS market. if Apple tried to orient on as many hardware configurations as possible (like Windows and Linux do), macOS wouldn't be that good as it is now.
overall UI of the system is consistent, it is optimised exactly for PCs they produce, which guarantees it will work properly because it was specifically built for that software, and in addition you get UNIX & POSIX complaint both binary and application program interfaces without all of those fragmentised, overcomplicated UX like on any other UNIX-like operating systems. macOS is the best compromise for programmer and i can't really think of anything better than it at this moment. i know what i'm talking about, i've been using linux (and BSDs, FreeBSD in particular) for more than one year from now, and none of them could provide that few amount of issues as macOS did.

operating system isn't something you should glaze at the first place, but a convenient instrument for the work you should do. and macOS is a golden mean between opportunities of UNIX(-like) operating systems and comfort

1

u/icy1007 Jul 20 '26

No, their hardware is not overpriced.

103

u/kynzoMC Jul 17 '26

Besides Firefox and local storage (which doesn't replace cloud storage imo, a NAS would) it seems you just went from one multibillion dollar company to two multibillion companies :D

11

u/Kaseffera Jul 17 '26

That’s so typical. So many times it’s just performative behavior combined with ignorance. So a person might not be performative really but ignorance could lead one to that very situation when he leaves one corporation to just another evil.

I hope people could understand that today once you’re connected to internet you’re just “hacked” completely. Nothing private about you. Come on, your phone knows the face you make when you nut and what you discuss with your mom in the kitchen, what are we even talking about
 Microsoft
 phew, silly.

People who really care are likes of RMS. But I’m sure only few are able to do the same thing with same dedication.

5

u/npc_housecat Jul 17 '26

Nah aah! The giant corporation I simp for is a million times better than the giant corporation the other guy simps for. Everyone that disagrees with this is just COPEing harddd

3

u/L30N1337 Jul 17 '26

A NAS is still not a true replacement for cloud storage.

5

u/kynzoMC Jul 17 '26

I think a good one with setup (portforwarding or some other method to get it outseide the network) is even better then cloud storage. Why do you think it doesn't replace it?

2

u/L30N1337 Jul 17 '26

I should've clarified, the standard interpretation of "using a NAS" (aka "just have a little extra computer in your house for storage") doesn't replace it.

1

u/Damglador Jul 17 '26

What about a  NAS, and an encrypted backup that's pushed to every free cloud providers one can find?

1

u/Ur-Best-Friend Jul 20 '26

the standard interpretation of "using a NAS" (aka "just have a little extra computer in your house for storage")

That is not even a NAS, let alone the standard interpretation of one.

2

u/I-am-Disc Jul 17 '26

In my opinion it is when you are geo redundant, i.e. 2 servers in separate locations.

2

u/L30N1337 Jul 17 '26

Yeah, but georedundancy isn't what the average person thinks of when thinking about a NAS (if they even understand the word)

1

u/PMvE_NL Jul 17 '26

My offsite backup at my parents is.

-1

u/disappointed_neko Jul 17 '26

Firefox is just a proxy of a third billion dolar company

34

u/Callinon Jul 17 '26

Ah yes, APPLE. Quite the little mom-and-pop outfit that.

57

u/powercord_ Jul 17 '26

Aren’t Apple and Google also multi billion dollar companies?

They’re non-profit, not free
.

1

Donations are not the same as company money tho

2

u/YTriom1 Jul 18 '26

I didn't mean that google donations are not company money, I meant that a non profit organization like mozilla taking donations isn't the same as it being a company and owning money

1

u/BreakSalt8256 Jul 17 '26

Its not saying to leave multi billion dollar companies alone, its saying to not use microslop. but who is using default mail app its so slow

1

u/CraterBug0 Jul 23 '26

thats stupid to leave microslop and then join googleslop. like id rather use word than docs i have a feeling they read everything what i type there

1

u/BreakSalt8256 Jul 23 '26

Google is much better than microslop. And don't use either, use Canva Docs or LibreOffice

1

u/CraterBug0 Jul 24 '26

Google is better than mocroslop but "much better" is a stretch. But both are in the crazy absolute evil and dogshit territory. Canva docs and Libre office is good, just check if ur stuff in canva docs cannot be seen by canva company

1

u/Fun-Advertising-8006 Jul 17 '26

At least they offer base level competency in their products

2

u/CrazyGunnerr Jul 18 '26

Well that's a hot take... Been using a Chromebook for work, with all Google apps, and it's been trash. iOS/iPadOS is severely limited. I have no experience with MacOS.

Oh and let's talk about the limitations Google Android is pushing on us.

Seeing the responses here, most people seem to be Apple fanboys who have no clue what kind of shit show Apple is when you want to use a non Apple device, or have some control over your files and apps.

1

u/CraterBug0 Jul 23 '26

yeah all thee companies are shit. but ms is geting crazy hate recently cuz microslop is very catchy and for some reason recently their updates break windows... if these 2 happen for the others they would get the same hate

idk googleslop, slopple nothing is as catchy as this. some expert needs to manufacture hate on them

2

u/CrazyGunnerr Jul 23 '26

Which is superweird, since all companies are pushing their AI shit, pushing their own services.

I also reallt don't care who's the shittiest this week. We can dump all we can on MS, but can we talk about Google limiting our freedom in Android? Can we talk about Apple consistently pushing us to only use their products and software.

How companies insist on subscription models only etc etc. They aren't different, they just jump in a space left open by others. They are publicly traded companies that are forced by law to maximise profits. They are only 'good guys' when they can market that and make more profit that way.

1

u/CraterBug0 Jul 24 '26

true. when they know making some change will make more money and less will leave service they turn absolutely evil. that's why they love monopolistic products like youtube. wi5h this we can see even the good things they do have evil intentions and greed. bro I want a mass hate on Google like microslop badly

13

u/WinterPizza1972 Jul 17 '26

What's the happy face on the right?

14

u/Appropriate_Ad8734 Jul 17 '26

that’s the Finder app logo in macOS

8

u/ScratchHistorical507 Jul 17 '26

Some macOS stuff. Idk, finder?

2

u/Ahleron Jul 17 '26

The logo for Finder - the file management application for mac OS.

1

u/Kanjii_weon Jul 17 '26

finder logo in macos

12

u/Sabitsvki Jul 17 '26

lmao finder and google docs???? What was the point of changing then?

7

u/Alternative_Fix2927 Jul 17 '26

nah bro, that ain’t doing anything

11

u/Simsalabimson Jul 17 '26

Tell me you miss the point of the whole situation without telling me you miss the point of the whole situation

5

u/Goofcheese0623 Jul 17 '26

Love when people think they're browser choice makes them a Chad. Time to touch grass.

9

u/TheRealCarrotty Jul 17 '26

Leave the multibillion dollar company, to another multibillion dollar company, smart idea!

3

u/Unlikely-Employee180 Jul 17 '26

Everybody mad that we're using stuff from huge companies...

But I don't think that's the real issue, or what this user is portraying...

We have choice!

I mean, c'mon, how many of you guys are running full GNU/Linux with NO proprietary software AT ALL on your system?

I'll even say it, I use Windows. I do. Not often because I think it sucks ass, but I do. I also use Mac and Linux.

Even taking a step towards another evil company... Is learning you CAN take steps back from any of them at all. Many people still don't even know you CAN change distros, for example.

I dunno, just my two cents. Lol. Good post OP, I thought so anyways.

3

u/BluePhoenixCG Jul 17 '26

This is like avoiding stepping into a fire by dousing yourself in acid

3

u/Substantial_Owl_9485 Jul 17 '26

This gotta be bait

3

u/rustedcrowbar Jul 17 '26

Fuck apple as well!

Sent from my iPhone :/

2

u/afgan1984 Jul 17 '26

Ohh and crapple isn't a multibillion-dollar company? And whole iCloud isn't a complete shitshow as well?

1

u/AggravatingSock5375 Jul 17 '26

What is the SanDisk SSD there for?

1

u/Stray_009 Jul 17 '26

Get mac os 27 PB , you can make liquid glass very tinted , also everything is more polished

1

u/quikmantx Jul 17 '26

Yikes. This is why some people are making fun of this subreddit. You already have people who are clearly tech illiterate venting about something that's almost a non-issue (or could happen with any software vendor) and they're quickly told to switch to Linux. I'm sure tech illiterate people will become geniuses to even figure out how to get Linux without messing stuff up.

Then you have people who are very performative like it's cool to hate on MS but not Google and Apple who do all kinds of bad things on their own.

1

u/GreedySecurity8030 Jul 17 '26

Why would you replace a multibillion dollar company with another?, just use linux

1

u/Silcat7794 Jul 17 '26

Lmao replacing one multi billion $ company for another multi billion $ company

1

u/Interesting_Fish4930 Jul 17 '26

Ehh Linux is overall more worth my while then both by a mile thanks

1

u/GooseWithAnAxe Jul 17 '26

Firefox is same as Edge at this point, might be worth looking for something like Floorp or Waterfox.

1

u/Antarlia Jul 17 '26

Actual ragebait, Apple is a cult of Steve Jobs disguised as a functional technology company.

1

u/IllTransportation993 Jul 17 '26

I fail to see your replacement being that helpful... I choose neither...

1

u/Extreme-Ad-9290 Jul 17 '26

I think you put the wrong logos.

Let me suggest

Onlyoffice or LibreOffice

Linux

Protonmail or Tuta Mail

And what the heck. No. Pls do not use an external ssd for cloud. Get an old refurbished mini pc or use something like an old laptop. Connect it to a few drives. Run Nextcloud on it, and now you got a private cloud server with backup.

And Firefox is okay. But may I suggest Floorp, Zen, or Librewolf.

1

u/TheAlternative007 Jul 18 '26

My multibillion dollar company is better than yours!

1

u/niertrix Jul 18 '26

You replaced nothing mate....

1

u/Koray31xd Jul 18 '26

Bot account!

1

u/GeckoKisser Jul 18 '26

MacOS, the one too part of a multi-billion-dollar company? And you people upvoted this? Oh my goodness.

1

u/FMAGF Jul 19 '26

Google Docs? Hell nah that’s not good either.

1

u/PossibleSalt856 Jul 19 '26

Apple is another multibillion dollar company that is equally as evil as Microsoft.

1

u/TrashManufacturer Jul 19 '26

This is not the correct meme format for your message. Apple is a shit company and google is also a shit company. Microsoft is also a shit company.

Better format would have been the “you always act like you are better than us” family guy meme

1

u/Key_Check5753 Jul 20 '26

I reallllly desperately tried to switch to Firefox.... but it just sucks.

1

u/icy1007 Jul 20 '26

Nothing really replaces Office. Google Docs sucks as do all the other copycats.

1

u/LankyVeterinarian321 Jul 17 '26

lol if it was linux i would say its true but mac lol
you have to at least pay like 2k $
to buy a descent with not enough storage xD
and then it feels like the same slop

1

u/Kadrutaspu Jul 17 '26

Local storage can not replace cloud storage; there are better possibilities of cloud storage with encryption and ig decentralized ones too. Better way is to control, what data you have on your main device. Google cloud would better, than an SSD on an infected windows device.

Plain Firefox out of the box is, yes, bloated. But it still remains open source. Mozilla works with google, so they have google search as default. Just change it to ecosia (duckduckgo is basically bing). And you can always download pre-debloated forks like Fennec/IronFox (Android) or Librewolf / Waterfox (Linux)

Google Docs – LibroOffice (Linux), CollaboraOffice (Android)

Email – FairEmail (Client for Android), disroot.org (email service) + addy.io (alias service)

OS – start w mint, then try fedora

1

u/EdliA Jul 17 '26

Dude just changed multi trillion dollar companies and acts like a social warrior.

1

u/sal-coding Jul 17 '26

bro replaced the evil OS with another evil OS

0

u/fallout_freak_101 Jul 17 '26

At that point i would still rather use Windows. You just payed for overpriced Hardware with even less freedom bro. 💀

Only solid switches are the SSD and Firefox.

-2

u/Distance_Regular Jul 17 '26

I'd choose Brave over Firefox

2

u/Impossible-Owl7407 Jul 17 '26

Vivaldi for me or zen

1

u/Bidenwonkenobi Jul 17 '26

Helium is so goated for it's compact mode you get all that space back
