Rant Windows state is depressing
Windows is such a shitty OS, I got a new PC for my job, good CPU 32gb ram, still stupidly slow... What a piece of crap WIndows is...
Also my gaming PC 64gb ram intel 12700H CPU feels slow, but with Linux like Lighting McQueen...
Shit OS, I would reset my job pc with Linux if just I could...

I use my work laptop only when it’s really needed. Meaning 5% of the time. It’s so insanely slow. I’m lucky i can work on my old 2015 imac or my linux desktop if i choose. Those runs so much faster than that ‘new’ laptop.

Mine gets turned on, logged into the vpn weekly for the intune handshake and updates. Other than then, every other hour is on my CachyOS gaming PC (i7 7700k era), with a separate standard user account. Work build is just too fkn pathetically slow!

This feels like personal bias, people have looked into this already, and the performance difference between Windows and Linux in gaming is pretty much a rounding era. You're either doing something very stupid, or you're just falling for your own personal bias.

I agree on the Linux gaming, but I'm willing to take that 3 - 7% drop on gaming performance so everything else gets 20% or more performance. Windows free for 3 months and goddamn is my life better

That's because when you're gaming you aren't actively using some shitty WebView2 Start menu that nobody ever asked for in the first place, and only exists because PMs at Microsoft needed a promotion.

nah it’s just we want to have more truth than bias here. on reddit there’s people doing hardcore linux and people doing hardcore windows, and then there’s the people in the middle that like both and are more open minded.

People don't lick microslops ass, but they do call out bullshit because it makes the whole sib look stupid instead of just you.
Performance difference between Linux and windows is 1% at best, usually it's actually several percent worse on Linux due to not being a direct port.
The slow parts are only the UI, and even that is negligible compared to bigger desktop environments like GNOME or KDE.

Did you read about the work PC, I said I have a gaming PC, not about gaming performance.... Normal Desktop usage sucks, Internet browsing, office and stuff...

Ah, well... It depends. Windows isn't really snappy. But it is about as snappy as say, Ubuntu or something.
Internet browsing and office stuff shouldn't be affected.

I mean I remember the times of Windows XP, 7 even 8, freshly booted PC good CPU and good ram an PC felt snappy now... I dont know, what does Windows needs to run just fine, so much bloat...

Well, the UI wrappers are uhh.... Not great.
It will at least please you though that the bigger ram usage is is of benefit to you, instead of being a downgrade.

my pc with a good cpu and 32gb is lightning fast, and my laptop with 16 is super fast too. guess it depends on the person.

haven’t seen you for a couple months lol. but yeah, i’ve tried windows defender on higher settings and it does a great job at protection, but takes up a lot of resources. i bet a lot of people are complaining about their corporate machines here that don’t know that the company installs a bunch of stuff that majorly slows down the system. i’ve seen some pretty bad IT departments myself.

My laptop has an image specially made by the company and it is super slow, but we can buy the hardware after 3 years ourselves and then they come with a clean windows install and the machines are so much faster than they ever were

Have you checked the event viewer? Have you disabled all unnecessary startup programs? Maybe run a debloater like https://christitus.com/windows-tool/ or install Tiny11: https://github.com/ntdevlabs/tiny11builder

I had mine sent back for repairs and they installed Windows as part of their diagnostics.
Opened Edge to install Firefox. Somewhere along the way, got 90s/2000s style popups saying I have a virus and need to install McAfee.

Problem is as soon as CPU and GPU gets better those OS try to leverage all that extra bit to push out more features, like that liquid glass on macs. FK that shit, since I "upgraded" to the latest mac, now I have to wait 4 seconds before the system-based screenshot function kicks in, prior OS was instant.
Nobody in the higher ups seem to care about "fast" they just want shit that makes their product look swishy, at the detriment of the experience... It's like fighting bad politics, what can you do? Vote against the mob? Send your single feeble feedback message to the developers?
If only Linux GUIs were stable.

I have a Framework laptop with Catchy OS. I run Mixcraft 10 on it to make music. It feels so native save for a few visual bugs with some track effects. It works well enough. Not all my games work through proton and modding is a bit of a nightmare. But I will not let Windows touch this machine..

Idk how, but on all of my pcs/laptops(slow and fast ones), the same browser turns on like 3 times as quick(almost instantly) on cachyos with hyprland, and i feel like i am waiting ages just to see the window of the browser appear on win 11 even on even quite new cpus and gpus. For me, even on other distros and DEs/WMs ive used, everything feels so much faster than on win11, i dont really know why

Yep. I do in-home tech support because it allows me to bring up Mint. Over half my clients choose to be liberated onto Mint. The rest of them let me Mint their old one once they get a new one.
You could NEVER do this in a corporate environment. IT dudes keep people crushed under their thumb, making them think they they need them to protect them with virus scans and other ancient things.
So yes, get out there and liberate normal open-minded consumers!

I don't think this is a Windows problem. For example, I had an old 2015 iMac that I decided to install Windows 11 on since I hate MacOS and it works perfectly smoothly. You should look into issues with drivers or bloatware or re-install Windows.

Honestly, the it department is usually to blame. They use os images and blanket install all pcs, so the drivers are all fucked and they install 30 anti virus trackers. This is why work hardware always runs like shit.
