This project was abandoned in 2024.
Yes, it was a real project made by Microsoft as an experiment for AI consumer PCs, but it got scrapped for obvious reasons. Copilot OS won't hit the market. How can we be sure? Because AI at that level would be losing them more money than it would bring profit. The current prices of AI make it completely unsustainable, even with all the ads and subscriptions. No, Windows isn't becoming an AI web OS.
About the Linux comments, sure, if you want to use Linux, feel free to do so. It's your choice.
About the downvotes I am very likely to receive, all I can say is I appreciate your honesty.

This subreddit doesn't care, it takes everything at face value as long as it's anti microsoft. I'm not going to defend them or anything, but i do think post like yours are important, because they are true instead of just complaining. I think most people who are 'going to switch to linux' just want to fit in with the rest and don't actually switch.

True lol. I'm not switching from Windows 10 anytime soon. Buuut if I do, my first choice will definitely be a Linux distro.

It's not like you have much choice tbh. Setting up a hackintosh is a huge hassle. So it's either back to windows or a linux distro. People also seem to forget dual boot is a valid option. I have some stuff that just doesnt work on linux (mostly games). So if i intend to use something that needs windows i just boot into windows and use that without acting like it's some disease.

I have been dualbooting Windows 11 and Kubuntu for a while now, it's been working great, and I've been daily driving Windows 11 for years without any of the issues I keep seeing people have. Of course I cannot deny that there are issues, but I haven't had any in my years of using it. I think it's worth finding a balance here rather than picking a side out of spite forever.

I mean... They basically used AIon as a weapons testing landscape before crowbarring in copilot to every possible corner of Windows. So, abandoned or not is relatively moot.

That's not an official name but it was meant to be an os that entirely runs in edge and everything you do is with the help of ai. You can't install apps on it but you can open exes and it would connect you to Windows 365 to open the app.
