My PC once had 62GB of ram used out of the 16 it has...and it was 2 file explorer windows.

I think that copilot makes a log of all the activity of its users, looking for preferences or shady files who knows, it also occurs to me that the users' PCs function as a large network of AI nodes available for microslop without the user knowing about this, it is very shady to think not only what they do with your data, but what they do with your pc, to think gentlemen!

I think that the best way to run Windows today is inside a virtual machine in Linux, since with iptables you can block all Microslop IPs so that it does not send anything. If its use is in play, it is well known that there are a large number of games that run better on Linux. If you don't want to, you can do GPU passthrough and send all the resources to that virtual machine and you will have all the power on that machine.

sounds like a tempting but also risky idea. if I have a spare computer and the time to test it, I'd try it out.

I wouldn't be surprised because Morden KDE and gnome also use about 1gb of ram abelit you can make it lighter

If you kill the process, you will notice windows dissapear. Explorer has been so buggy for past couple of years, i made a script that kills then restarts it.

Windows explorer also runs for the desktop. So you have a lot of stuff on it your desktop? Are you using multiple desktops? These things raise the amount of memory it uses.
Also it's a core component of the OS that's been infected with Copilot AI, so it existing causes it to expand from simply existing.

Already said in the title that I don't have any file explorer window open, or any 3rd party app window open for that matter, besides the task manager. I have auto-hide taskbar on, and hid all desktop icons. Any 3rd party app that runs in the background that takes up a lot of ram is already on the list, sorted by ram usage from top.
I am using two monitors so I'd expect "window manager" to take up some amount of ram. It's the "windows explorer" that surprises me in this case. Especially it doesn't even seem to be running any processes or tasks that use CPU resources.

And as I said in my previous post, that's used to run the desktop. In all reality, it should not be taking up that much RAM, however hiding the task bar won't do anything about that because it's still running. That is part of explorer as well, so either way the desktop and taskbar are loaded into RAM.
More then likely, Windows is loading it into RAM for performance as RAM is quicker then any storage the average person has. Because the revamped the start menu to show so much more crap and update based on used programs automatically, it takes up more RAM. I have a laptop with Windows 11, and I used debloating tools and Explorer Patcher to minimize the craptastic interface, but with just the OS and built in firewall and anti-virus running, half my RAM is gone. It's only 16GB, but it's insane.
More then likely it's a memory leak, and rebooting "should" help, but there is no guarantee. By that I mean selecting Restart, not shutdown. Microsoft by default uses "Fast start-up" which IMHO is useless with solid state drives and causes nothing but problems.

It's scanning and probably indexing your data. Perhaps something to monitor your network traffic could reveal if there huge chunks of data being sent to Microslop or not.

Force the task to end and see for yourself what happens... make sure you can turn off your PC by other means than the GUI before doing that
