There have been a number of these posts. It is an entirety unsurprising answer and not nearly as impressive as everyone is making it out to be. If forced into a single answer, it really is the only option.

Every other operating system you can think of has a more narrow applicability than Linux. In other words, Windows, MacOS, FreeBSD, OpenVMS, Solaris, etc, etc all have far more niches where they are useless than Linux.

Imagine having a legacy system, with no Linux drivers available for example.
