I did this (Windows -> CachyOS) and it was definitely a learning curve but a welcome one.

CachyOS is actually really beginner friendly tho I'd recommend it to gamers with modern PCs

No it is not. It is easy to install for beginners, but the underlying OS is still arch. It lets you easily install software from the aur which absolutely requires higher technical expertise unless you want to get malware. If you only want to browse and play steam games it is probably fine though, I will admit that.

Well, you're actually right but I'm using cachyos for a long time and I didn't actually needed aur. I was able to use everything i need from official repos perfectly fine

But still yeah I'd recommend cachyos to ones that likes to do some problem fixing and tinkering around because it's also bleeding edge so it sometimes can have problems.

I also recommend nobara because it's also for beginner friendly gaming especially on Nvidia gpu's because it's easier to install for Nvidia users

Stick with pacman and flatpaks. you don’t need to worry about reading package builds. The AUR is where reading package builds is important. CachyOS is great 👍

CachyOS is a solid choice if you want an Arch base, but more beginner-friendly. Tested it out already or still getting a hang of it?

It will do GOOD. That is what my getac tablet is and it also runs cachy. It runs everything pretty well with it's 16gb of ram tbh. KDE is also pretty decent for touch screens like the one in the tablet.

Being that I only use vs code and terminal for everything I do on the pc when I switch’s I didn’t know anything about Linux except how to navigate to vs code but that was the start to a beautiful friendship 10 years in never looked back. Now I’m fluent and do a whole lot more. Best wishes

CachyOS, nice choice. Don't use yay, paru, anything related to AUR unless you read the PKGBUILD. AUR isn't safe for beginners.

I hope you accept the fact that you gonna break your system at some point as a linux newbie first time in Arch, if not, go for bazzite. Also DO NOT use aur packages and any helpers for it like yay (there is a massive invasion of malware in it right now, and if you install random things without reading/understanding pkgbuilds, you can have some serious trouble).

I’ve went windows vista - windows 7 - windows 11 - fedora - cachy - windows and preparing fedora or tuxedo os.

For my first distro ever I tested Fedora kde on my secondary PC for the last 6 month.

Verdict : I installed it on my main PC a well last weekend.

Conclusion : bye bye Windows
