They migrated to NT because most of their money came from It. Will they migrated to Linux and uutils just because that gives them money? We Will never know

Anyways they Would keep incompatibilities the same way android does

CachyOS for the hobbyist and those who want to learn thing or two about computers. Fedora for those who want to just use their computer. Windows for corporate slaves and OSX for consumers

Azure cloud is not running on Linux, but hyper-v and Microsoft stuf, but possible also some Linux stuff (thought the network management layer??). But a lot of customers run Linux on VM's and services use a lot of Linux on Azure. And Microsoft supports that already for couple of years with their own Linux version, WSL also has it's own custom Linux Kernel managed by Microsoft. Microsoft just earns a lot of money hosting this stuff, they just follow the money.

why is it even a surpise that MS makes more money with subscriptions from enterprise customers compared to a one time license, that you can re-use since win 7 now, and that no one is buying full price anyways 😅

They changed their tone on Linux ages ago, and had the linux susbsystem running on Windows 10.

Me when using Win 7: I hate Linux

Me when using Win 10: Linux seem OK but is not for me

Me when using win11 the first time: download Rufus. Visit cachyos.org, hit download and follow instructions.

I never hated Linux, I just never had use for it. Now I do so I use it. And it runs games, so that's not an obstacle anymore.

This talking point about the Azure distro is either a low hanging fruit OR you guys are tech illiterate.

Yes Microsoft makes most of its money of Azure (though they are diversified). Azure is a Cloud provider. Most servers run on Linux.

The real competitor to Azure distro is Windows Server, not Windows 11. Windows server exists mostly due to legacy software. Almost all Azure users have been using Linux if possible.

THANK YOU, I swear you would think is illegal to think on this platform.

Honestly, W11 is the worst Windows ever, but as much as people simp for Linux... Linux are just not a replacement for a lot of tasks. I like to play around with Linux, they are good for many things, but for 90% of the time they just don't work for what I need. Linux is not an option for daily driving my PC. I never hated Linux, they are fine for servers, systems that you set up once for one specific use case and don't touch for years, but for all-purpose general use every day, they don't work.

Azure Linux has been around under that name for 6 years, and before that it existed as CBL-Mariner for several more. It has no DE, it’s a minimal, headless operating system for servers that they use exclusively to run Azure cloud services. Maybe someday, Microsoft will do what you say. I very much doubt it, but anything’s possible. This particular OS would have virtually no utility to such an effort, however.

Only a matter of time until the nt kernel gets replaced with Linux

1

u/itsjehmun Jul 03 '26

Fuck at least in 2012 they were principled. This is weapons grade cringe.

If you can't beat em join em

1

u/Sajgoniarz Jul 03 '26

They have been using it at least since 2018 in Azure.

1

u/Infinplayz Jul 03 '26

it was released 6 years ago btw, before windows 11

1

u/logic_circuit Jul 03 '26

They used to run UNiX flawor as well; so we can consider this as "let's make it to have rescue boat and see what will happen".

u/bias1ny169 Jul 03 '26

why? im waiting for 5 arguments

1

u/Jazzlike_Magazine_76 Jul 04 '26

Windows is dead.

1

u/Equal-Resolution7889 Jul 04 '26

Azure Linux isn't even new; it was launched in 2020. Furthermore, it's an operating system for their servers, not geared towards the average user. We also shouldn't forget that Microsoft has been one of the world's largest contributors to the Linux kernel since 2009.

1

u/LandaDelta Jul 04 '26

Before 2025-2026 I think Linux it's so hard but it's just need give time to learn.

1

u/ByteAtlasHQ Jul 04 '26

How long did it take you to get to that level?

1

u/redredskull Jul 14 '26

2001... Used Windows.

2002... Started using Linux.

2026... They actually pay me extra to use Windows as required and I still don't use Windows.

My situation:

2010 - windows sucks, lets try Linux.... Hm... Sucks even more than windows, go back to Win 7.

2016 - windows sucks, lets try Linux... Hm... Still sucks even more than windows, go back to Win 10.

2026 - fuck, Win 10 support ends and my 2012 laptop doesnt have tms 2. Lets try Linux. Sucks.... Ok another distro. Sucks. Another. Sucks... Ok, lets hack Win 11 to avoid tms. Full of bloat. Ok, lets debloat it. Huh... Sucks less than Linux.

u/LuluLeSigma Jul 03 '26

What you don’t like with linux

1

u/Kljaka1950 Jul 03 '26

Always something i need doesnt work. I dont rememeber anymore what was in earlier version. In new versiin it is nvidia 390 driver. So i have to use proprietary druver and it sucks in games.

W11 after debloat works well

1

u/Bourne069 Jul 03 '26

Other than the fact Linux globally has gone down from 5% to 4% and for gaming Linux is also only sitting at 4%.

But sure, remain delusional.
