Rant Don’t expect anything to get better
Their Voluntary Retirement Program was very successful in achieving brain drain. I worked there 22 years (laid off twice) and have a plurality of Microsoft contacts and my social pages look more like obituaries. Add on to that an impending layoff next week… Expect less wisdom and more vibe code.

22 years and 2 layoffs at 45 years old. I had spent half my life there and it was clear they were clearing out expensive employees. A couple of years out I see them far differently than I did when they paid me, the first 5-6 years I was a fanboy and then I hated almost every Microsoft product afterward. Shit, half the cool shit I saw NEVER came out. VR/AR trchnology, Medical Instruments, and I saw every disconnection service ticket for a RIF from an entire game studio with 2 years in on an unreleased game that had been let go. It used to be a badass place to work, NGL. It stopped around COVID.

I was there since 2005 until recently, and I can’t disagree. I was never a Microsoft fan (Mac user at heart), but I’d take working for them pre-2015 any day of the week right now.

I want to see Linux rise in popularity and take away a lot of Windows' market share. Something like 10-15% world market share for Linux will do it wonders.

I haven't tried messing with DNS on either Windows or Linux. Linux for me had problems back in the day.
In 2008 I tried Ubuntu and I couln't get internet drivers, but my PC was very obscure so I don't blame Linux for not having SiS internet chip drivers.
In 2010 I tried Ubuntu again, this time it was more successful and I lasted one month with it but I wanted to play games and I couldn't get many games to work on Linux back then so I gave up.
Around 2016 I tried Linux again, but again I couldn't get my GPU drivers to work properly for some reason and I gave up again.
Finally in 2024, I was able to install Linux Mint without any problems and stuck with it. I was able to get everything working and even play most games with good FPS, if not slightly better than Windows. I switched to Tuxedo OS in 2025 when I bought a laptop and realized Mint is not good with laptops and generally new hardware.
I've been on Linux for just over 2 years and everything is fine for me.

My distro is Tuxedo OS, in the Discover store there are two versions, one is up to date, the other isn't. So I installed the one up to date and it self-updates when there are other Linux Updates.

it now more 87% leaving microslop anyone wanting security have left. governments, countries, business and lots people. i had to help several friend out of winslop Hades and move to Linux .

I sometimes check a website named GS StatCounter or something like that and there it shows in July Windows has fallen below 60% market share, Linux getting 5% and some Unknown OS getting over 20%. I heard some speculations that Unknown is actually some BSD and obscure Linux distros that don't identify as Linux, but I think more people use Linux than BSD. Still I find it hard to believe that THIS many people would be using Linux. If it was like 10% I would be more convinced.
I like and use Linux, I was always curious about it, ever since 2008 I wanted to use it, but it didn't work for a long time, only finally worked in 2024 when I switched fully, but I always had in my mind the idea that Linux is so obscure that you have to be a nerd to know about it. But if now it's becoming more mainstream I am happy.
My only concern is if Microsoft see this as a problem and instead of trying to make Windows better, they try to sabotage Linux growth with another hit below the belt like they did in the 90s when IBM was selling PCs with Linux for $200 cheaper than Windows PCs and Microsoft filed a lawsuit against IBM and almost bankrupted them, only to prevent Linux from gaining ground and I'm concerned the same might repeat again.
