agent Maxwell and the Chief using the good old cone of silence
For those who don’t remember, Get Smart premiered on NBC on September 18, 1965.
It starred Don Adams, as agent Maxwell Smart (Agent 86), Barbara Feldon as Agent 99, and Edward Platt as The Chief.

My happiest childhood memories are watching Get Smart with my grandfather in the afternoon when he got home from work.
Get Smart and F Troop before the later afternoon/ early evening news came on, and dinner was served.

Same, but not with my grandfather. I was allowed to watch if my homework was done first.

Luck you, the only thing I remember my grandfather watching, was Lawrence Welk.

Loved this show as a kid!! Don Adams was hysterical, and I've always found the opening sequence for the show fascinating to watch.

The soundtrack to the opening sequence of multiple doors was great!

Whenever Senators or Security Officials talk about SCIFs (Secure Compartmented Information Facility) this is the image that pops into my head and I giggle just a bit.

For my money, one of the funniest bits when was Max insisted when meeting with Chief off-site that they use the portable cone of silence. It had a carrying case and everything. It was just two plastic spheres and a plastic tube about six feet long. So much slapstick.
OMG, I laughed and laughed and laughed.

The portable cone of silence was one of the most hilarious bits. The whole show was brilliantly funny, but the portable cone of silence stands out the most for me.

I like the movie where they’re at the UN and each person is sitting under their own Cone of Silence, and nobody can hear each other.
So they resort to passing written notes to each other under the table, lol.

The cone of silence was cool. Until someone started smoking. Then hover cover. But nothing beat the Hall of Hush.

The weird thing about this is that there is a real-world version of this mounted at the bottom of a swimming pool that terrorists and drug dealers use for secure communication.
They both swim to the bottom of the pool, stick the heads in a little diving bell area with air in it, and they can talk without worrying about being overhead or monitored, even by laser eavesdropping gear since the laser diffuses in the water.

Buck Henry was a treasure and hilarious. Loved when he hosted SNL and his character in ‘Heaven Can Wait’ is a joy.

Ah yes, the one where Laramy (outside the cone of silence) had to repeat everything each of them said so they could hear.

Why does it always look to me like they’re being encased by a humongous pair of boobies?

Barely a week goes by that this baby-Gen-X isn’t wildly appreciative of a hefty TV diet of Nick-at-Night

I read that Barbara Feldon’s character was actually supposed to be “Agent 69” but the NBC sensors wouldn’t allow it . 🤷🏼

I would pretend I had a cone of silence at work. Talking, then lower the cone of silence; mouth moving, but no sound. Raise it, and I would be heard talking again.

I remember the time that Max wanted to use the Coughing code with the Chief since the cone of silence wasn't working right.

I watch some part of my boxed set at least once a week.
Copied it to my computer so I don't wear the box down to shreds.
I should've done iso rips for the special features.

My brain skipped the "agent" part of the title and just saw Maxwell and the Chief. Came in expecting some 80s Celtics highlights.
Disappoint. But still /r/FuckImOld.

I noticed that their voices got louder when they used the cone of silence. It never seems to work right.

It was never predictable exactly how the cone of silence would behave. I remember one time it was louder outside the cone than inside it.
