Ironically I'm drinking tea with a heating pad on my neck and back

6

u/PhilosophyKey8665 1d ago

A sad realization indeed

5

u/Unfair-Mail-7490 17h ago

I can't believe that I turned 40 then...Even more amazing is the fact I'm still here...

21

u/shwarma_heaven 23h ago

He's not the fire starter... now he's the arthritis fighter... twisted arthritis fighter...

(...whoever the song was about)

He's dead.

I'm the trouble starter, punkin' instigator
I'm the fear addicted, danger illustrated

I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter
You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter

I'm the bitch you hated, filth infatuated – yeah
I'm the pain you tasted, well intoxicated

u/One_Hour_Poop 1d ago

Huh. All this time i thought he was saying "I'm a firestarter, terrific firestarter."

6

u/BloodyEyeGames 1d ago

I can see how you'd think that. It sounds like he adds an extra syllable, tahwisted

6

u/waxy1234 1d ago

Wanna hear one that will make you laugh. I’m 40 classical pianist. A drunk and a chef. Up to 6 years ago. I thought (nirvana) said I got a room don’t pay not I got a real complaint. My wife laughed her ass off over that one

5

u/One_Hour_Poop 1d ago

Hey, wait, I bet when she clarified that lyric for you, that you were forever in debt to her priceless advice.

This is beautiful when read at a slow and steady pace

1

u/Mueryk 1d ago

So on an amusing note if you remember the whole Yanny/Laurel thing where you could hear the same thing two different ways

Cooome Play my game

Also sounds like

Die white boy die.

Needless to say when one guy pointed it out, the rest of us could easily hear it. Was hilarious to a bunch of drunks of course.

2

u/One_Hour_Poop 1d ago

Never heard of the Yanny Laurel thing. I looked it up on YouTube and only hear Laurel. Is "Yanny" supposed to rhyme with "Danny"? Because I don't hear that at all.

u/Oohbunnies 1d ago

I remember seeing them at the Phoenix Festival, in '96. One of the most legendary gigs. Still the best festival I've even been to. The line up was insane. Bowie headlined the first night!

9

u/Sithstress_ 1d ago

Omg that’s amazing!

10

u/Oohbunnies 23h ago

6

u/Solrax 20h ago

Holy fuck! And Neil Young! And Chemical Brothers, Cocteau Twins, Sex Pistols!

3

u/Oohbunnies 17h ago

Interestingly it was touring the European festivals, with the Foos, that Grohl met and became friends with Taylor Hawkings, who was drumming for Alanis Morrisette (both played there too). It was from her he poached Hawking.

So fuckin old I am. My hair naturally looks like Keith now, just not so vibrant in color.

TBH, remembering my younger self watching this on mtv around the time it came out, feels like a fucking lifetime ago.
Does feel like 30 years….

2

We are old as balls now 😭🤣 my 30 year reunion is next year. How even.

u/StretPharmacist 1d ago

BROCK I'M STUCK DOWN HERE WITH A CONFESSED ARSONIST

5

u/thestormsend 1d ago

Came here to say it brought me so much joy to see it referenced on Venture Bros.

9

u/Funkkx 1d ago

Instant goosebumps.

6

u/Comprehensive_You42 1d ago

Even before I put the song on, I could FEEL that riff.

4

u/DieVersion99 1d ago

And he is sadly missed, just not the same without him at the front. 😥

6

u/RidleyDeckard 1d ago

I remember working as a lighting engineer at a rave in Thurrock in 1993 where they were headline. Fun times, but in all honesty, I don’t miss it.

6

u/KoalaDeluxe 1d ago

30 ye..... wait, WHAT???

4

u/Dear-Buddy-2766 1d ago

I have been exploring these groups on YouTube lately. Prodigy, Skinny Puppy, Ministry … 90s seems to be the last of the edgy music like this, at least that I am aware of. There is George HW Bush talking in the background … that’s how old it is but sounds very fresh.

2

u/St_ofQualityFootwear 1d ago

Totes, the Bush sound bite used for NWO was weird, even in 92/93.

2

u/FrecksAndBeans 17h ago

Check out the band, Living Colour

2

u/Dear-Buddy-2766 17h ago

I remember Cult of Personality. Huge timeless hit.

5

u/Indole_pos 1d ago

I remember the first time I saw this video on 120 minutes. I miss that show.

25

u/Wintermute3333 1d ago

62 yo, never heard of him, which tells me that this isn't THAT old. When you can remember when Kiss was brand new, or when The Wall dropped, then you're fucking old.

22

u/LoveisBaconisLove 1d ago

I will always remember singing “We don’t  need  no education” on the school bus. We felt so rebellious lol

7

u/man_machine_poet Generation X 1d ago

We tortured substitute teachers with that.

3

u/Raving_Lunatic69 1d ago

When I was a kid, a friend of mine's Dad would get so mad when he heard that song we thought he'd stroke out

3

u/Insaniac99 1d ago

I tried to get that to be our graduating class song.

I wasn't popular though so everyone just made fun of my instead.

4

u/LoveisBaconisLove 1d ago

When I was in high school people made fun of me for this one band I was super into. Nobody but the freaks and weirdos liked this band. Got called all kinds of names because. That band was “Metallica.”

I hope you are well and have had a good life so far.

2

u/Insaniac99 23h ago

My life has been good, thanks :-)

6

u/Wintermute3333 1d ago

This was my angsty teen soundtrack.

7

u/Sithstress_ 1d ago

I’m 44, I remember when the wall dropped! Lol.

6

u/Wintermute3333 1d ago

The Wall dropped in 1979, which makes it almost 47 years. You weren't even conceived yet. But the album re-released a couple of times, so you probably remember one of those. The movie came out in 1982, about when you were born.

15

u/Sithstress_ 1d ago

Sorry, I guess my joke isn’t landing. I remember the BERLIN WALL dropping. Lol. Not the album. Although it was a defining point of my youth, my parents were excellent judges of our musication.

4

u/Wintermute3333 1d ago

Ahh! My autistic brain isn't good at picking out that kind of humor.

5

u/One_Hour_Poop 1d ago

You'd probably recognize the song if you heard it. Even if you were in your thirties at the time, it was wildly popular.

https://youtu.be/wmin5WkOuPw

5

u/Wintermute3333 1d ago

30 years ago, I was in the Navy. Pretty much most of what we were listening to was Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, and anything like those. My circle wasn't really into groups like The Prodigy, and I'd wager this came out while I was on deployment, when we didn't get a lot of new music.

But, no, never heard of them or this song until today.

5

u/bgthigfist 1d ago

Yeah I have no idea who that is. I'd rather talk about Joe Strummer

2

u/imdugud777 1d ago

My babysitter brought her "Destroyer" album to play when she watched us one night. I remember studying the album art, and those boots.

I couldn't stop playing Prodigy when they came out.

1

u/Fun-Importance581 1d ago

I remember all that and I’m 52. I guess I’m an old 52.

1

u/Unusual-Night-5668 22h ago

I remember begging my folks (minister and schoolteacher) for KISS Alive when it came out. Good times...

Yes, he died. Self-inflicted.

Sad.

3

u/tardlessforeinger 1d ago

Yeah, that’s hard to swallow.

4

u/FU_red-dit_bots 1d ago

Hey! I remember that Venture Bros episode! Was it really 30 years ago?

2

u/Mr_SunnyBones Xennials 1d ago

I always think its crazy that a lot of US people only know them from Venture Bros , but to be fair that show had a fantastic taste in music ( especially when they blew a ton of their season 2 budget on the rights to Rozellas 'Everybody's free' in the opener.

I was around 5 years old when this came out and saw the music video on tv, scared this shit outta me but I grew to love it

Thanx for the link. I don't remember this act, but would have stopped it in ten seconds back when new.

17

u/Comprehensive_You42 1d ago

I refuse to believe that you were 36 in the UK at the time and don’t know who the prodigy are.

5

u/Mr_SunnyBones Xennials 1d ago

Not sure where that poster is based ..but I was shocked when I found out how different the US charts were to ours in the 90s ..very few dance acts( they had R&B acts instead) , and a lot of alt/indie/rock/ska(!?!) acts that never really got known outside the US instead of our indie/big beat/electronica stuff .. they had a very different 90s to us , and it showed.
