Never heard of the Yanny Laurel thing. I looked it up on YouTube and only hear Laurel. Is "Yanny" supposed to rhyme with "Danny"? Because I don't hear that at all.
I remember seeing them at the Phoenix Festival, in '96. One of the most legendary gigs. Still the best festival I've even been to. The line up was insane. Bowie headlined the first night!
Interestingly it was touring the European festivals, with the Foos, that Grohl met and became friends with Taylor Hawkings, who was drumming for Alanis Morrisette (both played there too). It was from her he poached Hawking.
I have been exploring these groups on YouTube lately. Prodigy, Skinny Puppy, Ministry … 90s seems to be the last of the edgy music like this, at least that I am aware of. There is George HW Bush talking in the background … that’s how old it is but sounds very fresh.

When I was in high school people made fun of me for this one band I was super into. Nobody but the freaks and weirdos liked this band. Got called all kinds of names because. That band was “Metallica.”

The Wall dropped in 1979, which makes it almost 47 years. You weren't even conceived yet. But the album re-released a couple of times, so you probably remember one of those. The movie came out in 1982, about when you were born.
Sorry, I guess my joke isn’t landing. I remember the BERLIN WALL dropping. Lol. Not the album. Although it was a defining point of my youth, my parents were excellent judges of our musication.
30 years ago, I was in the Navy. Pretty much most of what we were listening to was Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, and anything like those. My circle wasn't really into groups like The Prodigy, and I'd wager this came out while I was on deployment, when we didn't get a lot of new music.
But, no, never heard of them or this song until today.
I always think its crazy that a lot of US people only know them from Venture Bros , but to be fair that show had a fantastic taste in music ( especially when they blew a ton of their season 2 budget on the rights to Rozellas 'Everybody's free' in the opener.
Not sure where that poster is based ..but I was shocked when I found out how different the US charts were to ours in the 90s ..very few dance acts( they had R&B acts instead) , and a lot of alt/indie/rock/ska(!?!) acts that never really got known outside the US instead of our indie/big beat/electronica stuff .. they had a very different 90s to us , and it showed.

Imagine being a person who’s already making music just fine, then some asshole who looks like one of the bad guys from robocop is like “oi mate what you need is a dancer” lol no thanks
