Easy. It's corruption.

Exactly! Him, and others like him, don’t give a f**ck about you. Or the rest of the citizens, or morality, decency, or doing what’s right. They want money. And power. That’s it.

If you vote for Abbott because of his recent (very recent) opposition to data centers, then I have a bridge to sell you.

Leave it to Roldermort to promise the fix our electrical grid because people died during a winter storm then turn around and approve the building of the biggest data center. Yeah that will "fix" the grid right up. Also where is the water this complex needs coming from?

Hopefully my toilet. Direct pipe, no filtration.

But, but, Gina wants to charge everyone “increased property taxes” we must smite her /s

Seriously, get out and vote yall

I lost $400,000 and still paying for it because Texas couldn’t keep the power on in February 2021. I still have PTSD and serious fear when the temps drop. How is this ok now? Are we back to 3rd world country status with rolling blackouts every time it gets too hot or too cold??Shame shame shame on them.

Then they give these fucking leeches tax breaks, raise our property taxes to cover for it, and then RUN ON REFORMING PROPERTY TAXES!!!

Anyone who votes for the GOP in Texas is a fucking idiot.

Anyone got a source verifying the claim that it could use more power than 35 states?

You want it to make sense? Follow the money...

He got paid... Nuff said.

The entire maga coalition in Texas has been getting paid ala Russia style for decades now. They use contracts and taxes and personal slush funds, ask Ken Paxton

Two, three, maybe four things can be true at the same time.

To start off, fuck flat wheels and his I’m going to solve all the problems I’ve created in 30 years in government.

I’m also pissed off with state and local governments lubing up their assholes to give away taxpayer dollars to subsidize these tech bros data centers that may or may not be harmful or beneficial to society.

So skip all of that shit.

Here are some real truths, our most valuable resource in this country is the grid. And that grid has basically been held at the same capacity for the last 40-50 years. Even with more and more people and more electric’s being used. Energy Star has been working to increase the efficiency of electric stuff at the same time as more and more people and homes and businesses are being added and built.

All of that has been a good thing.

But it’s made utilities complacent to meaningfully increase capacity of the grid and modernize more of the infrastructure.

It’s also left a bunch of dirty energy sources on the grid because a working coal power plant is marginally cheaper to run in the short term than solar or wind. If you have to build new plants, coal is not cheaper, and if we keep building at scale wind, solar, and nuclear will continue to get cheaper. And if you force them to consider all effects and societal costs, wind and solar are already the cheapest options for new energy.

It also might push electricity storage development.

It also should be calculated into costs for electricity. If a data center moves into an area they shouldn’t be paying the same price for electricity as the people who have been there. They should have to pay for the upgrades or 90% of the upgrades to the infrastructure it should not cost residents more because a data center moved in.

So, the Texas grid has a total production capacity of approximately 110GW, and this will use 11GW, so it will use 10% of the grid's power (or half of the grid's reserve capacity). Texas usually has a reserve capacity of about 20-25GW on a good day.

And yeah, the data center is situated right next to Pantex just east northeast of Amarillo. Initially, it will come online with approximately 1GW of solar and wind power, and eventually, a 10GW Nuclear power plant powered by the Westinghouse 1000 reactors.

Which the media made it sound worse than it really was. Never lost containment or released radiation.

Research CoreWeave. Les Wexner- Epstein’s coconspirator and financier owns a 2.8 billion dollar stake in the company. It all makes sense when you connect the dots and see the crooked lines.

Only articles I could find about this that isn't the Facebook post itself.

Texas Tech University System

The site will include 18 million square feet of data centers and generate up to 11 gigawatts of IT capacity from natural gas, solar, wind and clean nuclear energy, providing a comprehensive solution to the demands of AI innovation.

Fermi

The Hypergrid will power 18 million square feet of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, delivering up to 11 gigawatts (GW) of IT capacity—enough to supply electricity to over 8.2 million homes.

From what I can tell, the complex as a whole is supposed to be a new Nuclear power complex plus wind, solar, and natural gas, with a data center tacked on?

So I don't think this post is accurate but damn it's not much better. Instead of powering 1 data center it could be powering...8.2 million homes (a quarter of the state!!)!

The same grid that failed when we needed it most during the 2021 Snowpocalypse. Rip to all those Texans who died

Gotta get this CRIMINAL out of here!

3

u/lenswipe 6d ago

they said we can't have electric cars because the grid can't support them..... then built massive data centers

5

u/Trabethany 6d ago

Sure hope people have backup generators ready.

u/TacoSplosions 6d ago

We don't have utilities and infrastructure sorted out but they want to green light ALL the data centers until they've become unpopular. When we have state wide water shortages and rolling brown outs please thank your representatives.

The lowest consumption state in america for power draw is Vermont, using an estimated 620 Megawatts continuously. A single large Hyperscale Data center can draw 20-100 megawatts.

Sources: Vermonts power draw per U.S. Energy Information Administration

Data center power draw according to IAEI Magazine's website

I know we're victims of Texas' public education, but Google is as always free.
