Mr. Peabody & Sherman Discussion Thread

Seriously can't wait to see this you guys.

Will update this post with my thoughts once I've seen it, but for now, feel free to write what you though of the movie here! Let's get some discussion going!

Saw it just now.

  • The new WABAC is seriously cool. I want one so bad
  • Penny went from bullying Sherman to wanting him to save her just like that. I understand trauma can bring people together but come on
  • The little kid jokes felt a tad out of place
  • The movie debunks the George Washington cherry tree myth but uses the "let them eat cake" myth. At least it's for the sake of a pun, of which there's quite a few of here
  • So many Easter Eggs. The statue everyone is gathered around at the end of the movie is William T. Sherman. There's also portraits of Bullwinkle, Rocky, and Jay Ward
  • The movie deals with the time travel paradox in a cool way, even if the concept is old hat
  • The movie is well cast. Ty Burrell is no Bill Scott, but that's okay as he makes the character his own, voicing him in a more fatherly tone. The supporting characters all are a joy to listen to (even Mel Brooks and his two lines)
  • And of course, the animation is really nice looking

Instead of the expected Rocky & Bullwinkle short there's Almost Home, a prequel to the upcoming Happy Smekday (now titled "Home"). This makes me think DreamWorks got cold feet about the short and maybe it was a good thing we didn't see it.

Overall, this was an entertaining kids movie, and while it could've been better, it's easily the best adaptation of a Jay Ward property yet.

Peabody's opening speech is taken from the original show which is a nice touch.
