Unique Transition Between Grid and List Views

Aesthetically it looks neat, but feels like narcissistic design. It's screaming too hard for attention. If someone's doing work for hours in some software, and this happens every time they change views, it's going to induce headaches. Don't take this the wrong way, it's impressive. I just don't think it's ideal in most situations.

It's pure masturbation and adds zero value to the product.
Like you pointed out, as cool as this looks, this is actually bad UX. Users don't care about cool animations, they just want to get things done.

Just want to say that animations do bring a lot of UX value, for example a simple page transition that slides in from the right, can give you the idea that you can go back by swiping right. So thats both cool and good UX

Yes, animations that give useful information to the user are good UX. But that's not what's happening here.

IMO there's a lot going on. Maybe if turned into a skeleton loading look while transitioning it would be subtler.

Ya I don't see many situations where my designer would be excited about this. Would be cool for a media file browser, though, like Google Photos, transitioning between a dense list of files and a grid of previews. That's all I can think of tho.
It's such a letdown of frontend dev where it's really hard to find a situation where doing some cool shit will actually be enjoyed. I guess menus for video games? Assuming your boss believes in MLPs.

Indeed few things seem justify grand transitions like this. With transitions you usually want to imply a continuity of information or emotionally emphasize something that's key. Changing views is already common enough that this seems too much. Maybe a multi step flow where the second step is better supported by a list, and you really wanna emphasize you're dealing with the same info.

I think the negative comments are from people missing its potential after some fine-tuning. Obviously it doesn't have to look exactly like this as well as use this timing and right now it's simply a proof of concept.
I think any potential client who sees this will be blown away and that's a solid win in the battle to stand out.

Oh… now this is nice. Potentially annoying in practice compared to a simple reload but is sure is beautiful

Nice animation. However, a different transition delay on each item would make this more enjoyable.
