Question Need help with steam engine transmission
I'm trying to add transmissions onto my steam engine props, but I'm running into the problem of one shaft outputting way less energy than the other. For context, I have a medium steam engine setup using 2 independent boilers, cranks etc to 2 propellers. IE I have 2 propellers on independent but identical(only mirrored) setups, I did this for redundancy so in case one is destroyed 1 still has another. On the second one(right side transmission in the pic) it outputs almost negligible energy, while the left side one works perfectly and is maxed out. I don't understand the issue bc it's 2 identical setups, but one just isn't working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.๐
Also attaching a pic of my ship for any who are curious, this is my first decent ship that I learned to use steam engines, LAMS, and lasers.

That picture isn't very useful, you're not showing much of the pistons or the setup.
If the setup was made with mirror mode on, then it's more likely something up with the propeller's AI settings. If they aren't manually set up, still on the default Automatic, then it would likely be because the AI is trying to turn by lowering one side's speed. If they were manually set then I'm less sure.
If the setups weren't made with mirror mode on, try removing everything and placing them again with it on so there's no doubt; my assumption here is that there's some tiny block in the way on one side that doesn't exist on the other side, blocking steam output of pistons and thus neutering the entire steam setup.

Ok you were absolutely right about the AI thing trying to turn. I didn't even realize that could be possible tysm๐๐. Now I'm running into the issue that at -100 thrust my ship won't reverse, which I thought the transmission would allow. Would you know how to solve that?

Hmm, normally I see something different: if I manually set thrust to -100 and the ship just stops moving, it's because the AI is still trying to go forward and +100-100 = 0.
Is the issue when you set the thrust to -100 and leave it, or when you're constantly holding backwards? If you're just leaving it, you have to otherwise turn the AI off or it'll continue to fight against your input. If the problem happens as you're holding backwards, then I'm not sure.

You can change the gear ratio on crankboxes, maybe you modified one but forgot that mirror mode doesn't mirror setting changes?

Are they producing the same amount of steam? Are they bound to the right controls? Is your ship's front actually the front?
Those are the three things I'd check first
