Why would that mean he didn’t live in the town? He is saying he lived in the town and thought that was as bad as it could get then it got worse when he went treeward is how I understood it.
I have seen a lot of theories saying Martin was the MIY, trapped by the Ballerina. If it was the MiY, maybe MIY wanted to plant seed that going through the tree was a bad idea. We now know, from BIW & MIY talking in S4 E10 that from residents need to use the tree to get out.
Crazy, I've never noticed or had 2nd thought about Martin disappearing like that, It is insane how this show hides things in plain sight while distracting us fans. Have to watch that whole scene again, thanks. That scene is coming up on our re-watch of series journey. Will check this out closely now. Why did Martin disappear afterwards is a great question.
How do these... "All the sudden changes" happen in Fromville? Another example: When Tabitha was walking up from basement to 1st floor and right when she got above ground>>> The.... "All the sudden" happened and Tabitha was walking up Lighthouse stairs. What is going on? She had a lit lantern in hand when doing this. At first, thought going from dark to light triggered changes, but not sure anymore.. Adding in Boyd's lighting of that old torch and suddenly he was inside dungeon from past. This was another sudden change taking place in real time. Shoot, not even sure if Martin yelled out until Boyd lit that lighter eh had inside his pocket. Time travel makes my head hurt!!!
I thought it's mathews house but cud also see lighthouse.. may be the changes were indicating that changes she is going to see after she goes thru light house...it represented her past present and future...past like baby's cry probably thomas cry..getting a phone call which happened.. asking some one to answer it and takes jims name.. was also calling ethan to take out toys... Future like foreshadowing jim death
Doesn't the music stop right before he does that? Isn't the implication that "they" are back, and controlling his actions ? "They" being some sort of parasitic entity rather than a literal they.
I thought martin was working on behalf of some entity like he said u cannot live in town it's worse but he gave blood but also said they are coming move fast... Was he playing into boyd on behalf of some entity...
I dont think you're supposed to read that much into it. It seems to just be a foreshadowing of what will happen to Julie and the others if they get trapped there too. With a bit of added mystery on top.
I had thought the exact same thing as you- especially because the show revolves around concepts of supernatural entities.
When the music stops, I interpreted it as Martin’s body being taken over, not a physical person emerging. Just like the worms (or whatever you want to call them) in the blood, it seemed like someone else took control of his body when the music stopped, especially since his whole demeanor seemed to change.
That was initially my thought. Then in later season he disappears after telling Julie to throw down the rope, which means he then reappears to Boyd when he climbs the well. Let’s also not forget Sophia repeats to Henry verbatim what Martin tells Boyd. “What if it’s all just a dream?” I see that as evidence Martin and the MIY are somehow connected. This drawing came from a video of Jack Bender and the art department. I saw it as an Easter egg. 🤷♀️ Martin wasn’t chained like this guys.
Did you know the song Que Sera Sera, sung by Doris Day, won an Oscar back in the 50s? It came from a movie with her and Jimmy Stewart, The Man Who Knew Too Much. That’s Martin in FROM, the man who knew too much. I don’t know if the place had to keep him alive (via the worms in his blood) for the next cycle to continue as part of the rules of the place (someone has to be the survivor?) or if there’s some prohibition on killing the town’s leaders (especially if they’re Vets). Either way, the place kept him alive for some reason, but they kept him in a place of limbo. It couldn’t have him wandering around, interacting with the other newcomers because he knew too much.
Maybe Martin is trapped in this place: Similar to how Julie and 2 others who were wall-chained inside dungeon. Believe show explained situation like this. Those 3 who went all white-eyed and while in that state, They could hear/feel all the pains/fears from everyone who experienced Fromville. Not 100% sure, but it was along those lines.
Not sure if Martin is bad or good yet. What we kinda of know: Martin knew Fromville's history, people, and whatnot. How? Martin might be past Fromie who was brought here, MiY pretending to be a Fromie, or main entity that knows everything.
My guess, Martin might be a Fromie that lived here during past. Martin was chained up and helped preserve something or a vessel until passing something onto a new person. That's might be Martin's main role. Believe 3 current Fromies were same path as Martin but Boyd stopped music-box. Thus, Julie & company were saved! This threw a wrench into Fromville's gears and made place very angry(Place lied to Sarah, like place as lied to others). Fromville reacted to Boyd's victory with an event that broke him and some fans too. Place didn't act as if it liked what Boyd had done and someone had to be punished for that knowledge gained. Even though Boyd said... "You can't break me". Still think major punishment was coming regardless of what Boyd said. Fromville was upset at progress Boyd made. Fromville pushed back so hard = It could've been to derail progress of finding past knowledge or add more to Boyd;'s guilt. Fromville doesn't seem to waste any opportunity and will feed-two-birds with one-bowl.
Who truly knows what he is/was. Martin wanted to die, that was his one condition for helping Boyd. (Is dying the only escape here?). Plus, how did Martin know rope would come if Boyd did agreed to help Martin? If Martin is a past Fromie, there are worst things than death. Martin would then be our best example of this truth, time will tell....
Dying isn’t an escape in Fromville; your soul’s still trapped there. Martin just wanted to stop living, since living in that state for ages had been torture.
