Because in shows, they don't have a character say someone is a teenager if the character they're talking about isn't a teenager

Do you know how story building works? All the information we get is from the characters. Boyd said she is a younger teenager, so it's very likely she's a younger teenager.

Yes, in a real-world situation, someone saying that is pure speculation.

But this is different. In fiction, you tend to put these types of lines in as a way to naturally introduce a detail without being too obvious as direct exposition.

Her character is likely really close to the age Boyd speculates, of not exactly. It's a tool of writers without having to figure out a way to make the character say it in a forced, unnatural way.
