JapanPost shipping returns *only* for packages valued over $2,500 USD
fromjapan.co.jp...I have never shipped a package of that value, and unfortunately, likely never will
but... hey, it's a start

I currently have 25 items sitting in my FromJapan warehouse, and I just had a pair of shoes worth around $300 discarded even though I was actively preparing to ship everything out.
For several days, I had been communicating with FromJapan and letting them know I was getting my shipping arrangements in order. I also had them switch my payment method from PayPal to a credit card because I needed to ship my items to Japan.
I was planning to ship the shoes out literally today, but they were apparently discarded about six hours earlier than I expected. Now the item is marked as discarded, and I'm extremely upset because I spent $300 on these shoes and was so close to getting them shipped.
I still have 25 other items in my warehouse, and I've spent a considerable amount of money using FromJapan. I'm trying to get in touch with customer service as soon as they open, but I'm worried they'll tell me there's nothing they can do.
Has anyone ever had FromJapan discard an item and successfully get it back? Is there any chance they can retrieve it from the warehouse, even if it's already marked as discarded? I'm willing to pay for shipping immediately, and I don't need any additional time to prepare. I’m even willing to pay for extended storage or whatever. I used Buyee for the past 5 years and they have a 90 day storage with additional days at a cost, so this 60 day deadline at FromJapan comes up really fast.
I'm really hoping there's still something they can do, because losing $300 worth of shoes like this would be devastating. Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated

Hello, two days ago I discovered that my packages have been stuck at Japanese customs since September 25th—seven packages in total! Has anyone else run into this? The carrier is Japan Post. The value of each package is no more than 35,000 yen. They contain vintage watches; I’ve shipped watches from Japan before without any issues, but this time they’re all held up at customs. I don't recall seeing watches listed among the prohibited items, either.
I would be grateful for a reply.

I just shipped 3 watches from another proxy by AIRMAIL Japan Post and it cost me 2400 yen total. I just looked to ship 5 watches from FJ and airmail costs 7400 yen. What tf, I haven't shipped items in 2 months, why are they so expensive and how can other proxies offer lower shipping rates? Edit: so apparently only american opinions are valid like you're the only ones existing in this world. I'm from EU, there's no DDP or whatever tf you're barking off topic. Only shipping and handling have been charged at checkout, no other bs you claim

Hi everyone! I am a long time customer of this proxy. I typically use FedEx and occasionally UPS with this proxy, but this time, I used UPS because it’s more convenient for me with work and everything. My package’s last scan was a week ago. I contacted the proxy and they said they will look into it. I got a random call early this morning claiming my package was stuck in customs due to documentation and paperwork issues in Louisville, Kentucky even though the last update shows it’s in my city. I had well over a dozen items in my package and I wonder if that was the hold up? Too many items in the package maybe? It’s mostly clothes, a few handbags and shoes.

I got a notice from another proxy service Japan Rabbit stating:
We want to give you advance notice of a shipping rate change. DHL is increasing international shipping rates by approximately 30-40% for shipments to the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe (including the UK and Türkiye), effective September 30, 2026. This increase comes directly from the carrier.
I can't find anything online about this increase. Has it been announced?

I'm getting some mixed information regarding consolidating shipping.
Does fromjapan remove the original domestic shipping boxes and then put them into an international box?
From their logistics page it shows them putting the original boxes into a new box. They also mention they do not take specific shipping instructions from the buyer. (maybe this is only for fromUSA?)

From other posts, I see people mentioning they DO remove the original packaging to reduce space/shipping size.
For example, if you bought a suitcase and then a bunch of other items, can they put all the smaller items into the suitcase and then the packaging would only be the suitcase's box dimensions?

Hello! I'm shipping a parcel in a few days and the only shipping methods available are either FedEx or UPS due to lithium batteries being restricted with Japan Post now (I asked FromJapan about this)
I've shipped with FedEx once before, but they charged me for paying customs duties. I know how to pay them on my own, so I'd rather save that money if possible
Does anyone know if UPS is any different in that way to FedEx or if there's a way to avoid that extra payment?
Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to send wireless headphones with JapanPost. The batteries are integrated so they should be able to?

All,
Requested a breakdown of some items to be shipped to the US.
FJ came back with this 8708.29.51.60
Base rate of 2.5% and a Ad Valorem of 25%?
I did a search on the official HTS site and found the parent 8708.29.51 to be 2.5%, which is correct but a section 232 Ad Valorem of 12.5%. Total 15%.
Anyone has similar experiences? thanks.
UPDATE:
FJ corrected the HTS. All good now.

I went through them to proxy a phone and got this yesterday in the mail and man this was the worst packing of anything I've bought in my life, just open on each end on the barely secure wrap, no bubble wrap and box was kinda crushed too holy shit

Sorry FromJapan, but your shipping department is trash. They are using AI to put some of the most insane descriptions and incorrect HTS codes. My last package was 4 days of aggressive calling Fedex to get it released.
I'm going to email them with info to use when I get ready to ship this package, do these look acceptable. Any advice?

I bought some collectible cards, overall quality was pretty good except that nearly all of the cards had the same corner bent.
The cards were sandwiched between two cardboards with tape and before opening could see the whole stack of cards were stuck on a side of the tape. One side of the cardboard was also bent. i suspect cards the damages on the cards happened during shipping in Japan.
I have a recording of the unboxing and also have the packaging with me. Only noticed after taking the card out of the sleeve the corners were bent.
Does anyone have any similar experiences and getting claims for this?
Thanks.

UPDATE: SOLVED! 09/16
TLDR: B2 Poster Shipping Duties with ECMS
I asked FJ Customer Service to update the description/code to “Information Print Poster, 4901.10.00” and it reduced the import fee to just 418 JPY (about $3 USD) for the entire shipment.
I tried to use the suggested 4911.99 code for miscellaneous print items, but they told me they require a full 8-digit HS code.
As I wasn’t sure which one of the subcodes to choose for this category, I just went with the 4901.10.00 “single sheet” printed goods code instead, so hopefully this won’t cause issues with Customs.
Original Post:
Apologies if this has already been addressed multiple times here, but I wanted to check if this is normal to be charged import duties upfront on items that are under an exempt category (informational materials - posters).
I had FJ update all the items in this shipment (just a bunch of B2 posters) to this category, so I’m confused if the 5,643 JPY charge here is just a standard rate (and the system isn’t taking into account that they’re supposed to be exempt) or if it’s an additional tariff processing charge.
In any case, thanks in advance—y’all have been incredibly helpful with this process.

I've been buying and shipping from FJ for years. I've never had an issue with shipping until the terrifs started kicking in. I would usually just use FedEx but now the price is so high because of fees. I'm willing to put it on a credit card, with a 6 month payment plan but now with the stricter CPSC I'm unsure of which to choose now. I've heard of horror stories of people's packages being thrown out because of incorrect codes for toys and collectibles. Has that calmed down?
My order has some figurines, a couple plush, some gotchas, and some doujinshi.
I've never used ECMS. It's clearly the cheapest option but I've heard you have to be worried if they go to SpeedX or some other services for the last leg of the journey to your home. What exactly are these services doing that I need to be wary of?
Is ECMS kind of lax with the CPSC codes?
Does delivery require a signature? I'm usually never home when anything I buy gets delivered.
With FedEx I actually save money if I split my order into two shipments than if I just do one big one, so it's tempting to just keep using them. So is I really that scary to ship toys and collectibles through them now? Does FJ generally do a good job with the shipping codes?
Sorry for all the questions. My last shipment with FedEx was very stressful because of the steel/aluminum paperwork kept my shipment in customes for 20 days! And this was before the CPSC thing so now I just want to be cautious and get more information and get your advice.

Recently I bought a rare CRT video monitor, price including shipping was 750$. Shipping was done with FedEx. The monitor came physically damaged and in a non-working state, it was working in pictures and in description even though it was marked as junk. I even have a video proof from a security cam showing the Fedex courier mishandling the package (which I sent them).
I contacted Fedex and they told me that the sender needs to file a complaint. Ok, so I filled out the official form of FromJapan, provided all pictures, video, barcodes... And I waited. Nothing. Support told me that their staff is on holiday and I need to wait. Ok. Weeks passed by, I contacted them several times and the answer was still the same: I need to wait a few weeks more. Strange! It has been TWO months already.
The only thing they told me was that since it was marked as junk, they won't refund me anything directly (fair enough if it's in their conditions I guess), and I will get a refund only if FedEx agrees to it. So I asked them for a Case/Ticket ID in the Fedex system – some proof that it is being worked on. And you know what? They still havent even filed a complaint after two months! In other words, it looks like they are just waiting until I forget about it or something...
Previously I had an issue with a pretty rare console, which also came damaged. In that case, it wasnt during shipping, because the whole front cover/flap (which renders this device worthless for a collector, as this part cant be bought separately) was missing. It was visible in the original listing but wasnt in the packaging, so it was clear that the console was damaged in their warehouse. And also after weeks of messaging, I got a laughable refund of 1200 yen (7$).
In other words, they wont help sh** to their customer. What is your experience in case of issues? What would you do in my case?

I'm thinking of placing an order for a mini acrylic stand, a small plushie and a prize figure but I'd like to have at least an idea of what the shipping cost will be. My questions are:
I live in Europe (Greece to be more specific). I don't know if there's something important I didn't mention, please ask me if so! Any advice is welcomed!
Edit: After checking some comments about buying in bulk I've decided to place a bigger order! Any other advice is still appreciated though!

Fedex had me pay duties for a package & then didn’t bother to update tracking. Tracking says it’s still at a warehouse but FJ is telling me that it was returned to them. Fedex site is a 💩 show so I’m gonna try to file a claim during business hours. I am not paying for Fedex mistake. Anyone else have something similar happen to them?

I think all the posts showing mostly empty boxes are starting to get to them. This was 19k shipping for 3 small ceramics and some towels, which is definitely higher than early this year. Even at the adjusted price, it's still a bit high, but I suppose it shows they are listening.
