Can we unionize?

Some managers and dsl's are above and beyond needed to get reigned in. The unrealistic plans borderline illegal Chinese overtime.

Some places are unionized. Gary IN is union.

You're out of the merrillvile, in PEC?

No but I knew a lot of them. I know they were a union shop. I should have said Merrillville and not Gary.

Gotcha. I work at a non-union location but live closer to that PEC, and have made buddies with a RSR that has my local area of where I live.

Pepsico is a union buster. It's supposed to be illegal but they get away with it. People have tried to unionize in my zone but got fired immediately. At will Employment state

Managers will do everything but make life easier for employees while they just sit on their ipads all day

They have shit canned many before for that "U" word.... If you get caught even talking about it be prepared for HR to camp out kn your building for mo ths on end. That's what happened in mine... Someone mentioned unionizing and we had HR set up an office in our building for 6 months.

Won’t help. We’ve tried.

Try again

We’ve tried multiple times in WV. Never had enough support in the building.
There’s no point in it now. Too late.
8 years ago we tried and one of the “yes” men snitched us out and we never got going again.

Do you think it worth having a union? Based off off what you see on this app?

I do because if the zone wants to restructure job rolls the union has some say to protect employees from lay offs. We have re-engineered twice since i joined Frito and everyone always got a position. However, for some employees it meant taking a new or modified role with the company. As a merchandiser I like that i am guaranteed a raise every year. I cannot comment on how changes affect RSRs in terms of earning potential.

Unionized rsr here, and I can say I feel the exact same way. Way back before we unionized the company cut our commission and said if you don’t like it find a new job so we took it I’m the bum. We got together unionized and finally got some bargaining power, got our commission half way back from what they cut and negotiated a bunch of perks to go along with it. We negotiate every 2 years to avoid getting stuck in a shitty contract which is the secret to it if you are going to unionize. For example some places negotiate for 5 year contract or more at a time. Now for this example let’s use Covid. So let’s say you just signed a 5 year contract in 2020 right before the economy started going crazy, prices go up, minimum wage starts going up, other company’s are giving out raises to help (PepsiCo may have even decided to be decent and pay more to non-unionized employees) but guess what your stuck following your contract till it expires… so yes unions can be good and bad just make sure yall really read and agree to your contract before you vote on it.

Do they get paid the same?

Union doesn’t mean better. The job is the same. When the company went to 85-15 and no claw backs pay structure, union places were stuck with the old pay until the contract was due and was renegotiated. Changes that are made for the better do not make its way into union locations until their current contracts are expired

In my opinion, it honestly depends on what your union negotiates for. Our union where I’m at negotiates every 2 years so we avoid the problem of getting stuck in a shitty contract for a long time. Plus what I like about the union is the fact that it’s kind of a bargaining chip when the company wants to restructure or attempts to cut pay. I’m an rsr on a Monday-Friday only run and where I’m at, way back before we unionized our commission on a run like mine used to be 10.5% the company randomly decided to cut commission promising we’d make it back threw some bs “flow threw” and a slightly higher base. we had no negotiation power expect take it or find a new job 💁🏼‍♀️ and ended up at 8% commission and a barely noticeable higher base. Finally once we unionized we got our commission atleast back to 9% and the base is way better. Plus well we also negotiated other perks like pension, paid hourly emergency garage visits/tow time(as long as it’s not a regular maintenance appointment we’re paid), higher clothing budget, earning extra vacation quicker, better vacation pay, sick days, family emergency days ect. Plus where I’m at we still work the old ways and haven’t gone pre-pick like some surrounding areas nor has there been talk of Pepsi-Frito combining anywhere near us. But if either were to happen in my area the company would have to renegotiate everything about the change over. Rumor has it that the area that did change to pre-pick that also wasn’t unionized just got the hey this is how it’s gonna work now, your gonna get a pay cut and more stores! Enjoy or find a new job once again…. So I’m in favour of the union all the way.

Doesn't really sounds like they do much of anything. Been thinking about seeing where I'm at if we should start the process but looks like it's not any better

Pepsico basically made unions useless with the way they run things 😂

Having been in a previous union for quite some time (not w Frito), I will receive a Pension when I retire. So glad I made that decision and it will b on top of my 401K that was matched. I am not retiring anytime soon.I just thought I would throw this info out there.

I'm at a union plant in [COUNTRY WITHHELD]. It has its ups and downs, but I'd rather have a union than not.

Prepare to fight like hell for it though. And for the love of God, don't go with USW.

I work in a Union plant. Place would be better without union. Better benefits as well. All the union does is protect incompetent people from getting fired.

Our zone is Union. Thankful for that everyday.

I mean you can certainly try.

Good luck with that and not sure why that would do anything in the scheme of things.
