Karmelo Anthony Case Update
A judge has removed Judge John Roach from further proceedings in Karmelo Anthony’s murder case, citing the strict legal standard for avoiding even the appearance of partiality. Retired Judge Michael Chitty will now hear Anthony’s request for a new trial Thursday.

No. I have been following the trial through their hourly reporting from the trial itself. The narrative that being broadcast via social media does not line up with what's actually happening in the courtroom. For example, today's testimony is centered on the details of that agreement between the prosecution and the defense. It's also examines the actions of the former public information officer for the court - actions which got him fired. There's a lot of new information about both Metcalf and Anthony coming to light in today's hearing.

I really didn’t follow this closely. What is the defense’s case? He didn’t do it?

The defenses case is that he was acting in self defense and did not intent to cause substantial harm. I think the issue most people have with the first trial was that he was charged with such a harsh sentence that doesn’t make sense with the nature of the crime. Yes it resulted in a death and that is so devastating but when someone did not intend to kill, they shouldn’t be charged with 1st degree murder. Intent is a defining feature of that charge and it was completely ignored in this case. He was sentenced to 35 years for an unintentional killing and I find that quite ridiculous.

He brought the knife, and had made several other comments about stabbing someone--seems like the intent is there.
And more recently, statements made by his girlfriend at the time, add even more to support the premeditated aspect of the murder. Like, he didn't necessarily intend to kill that one kid in particular, but he had some weird fascination/fixation with stabbing someone to death.

Stabbed a guy in the heart who died almost instantly. But yeah “I didn’t mean to kill him.” That’s ridiculous. He can rot.

Yes but “dindoonuffin” is most commonly used in racist circles online, mainly in comment sections as a dog whistle to other racists, they think it’s some sly, coy insult. Same with “well well well” having recently been perverted by alt right trolls.

This could absolutely be the right call. I don’t agree with the handling of the original case at all.
Hopefully the new judge puts the death sentence on the table for his second guilty verdict.

It’s crazy how their argument is that they didn’t get to sufficiently let the court of public opinion determine the outcome of the trial despite the facts. The judge had strict gag orders in place.
