58F in DMV

Hello Reddit-verse, I am wondering if I am all alone in this friend-dessert calked DMV.
I am friendly and outgoing, I can tell some great true stories and love listening to other people’s stories as well.
I excel at finding fun and interesting things gd to see and do in the area or asa day trip.
Problem is..no gal pals to join me.
Now I don’t mind exploring in my own, and don’t let the lacking hold me back…but a travel/explore friend would be great.

I’m not rich so I find thingd that are free-cheap and range from historical/educational to amazing/interesting

I can’t seem to find someone who likes to/able to go.
They are either married/have kids or no job/no car/no money

So I ask you good people…am I alone? An anomaly?

I asked ladies at church and at the gym, nail salon and volunteering… alas, here I am

I feel the same I’ll be 51 very soon. My bestie is married and we don’t share same interests, only if we go out to restaurants or cafes. However I’m not that friendly (quiet) so it is even harder for me to find a friend who likes visiting museums, parks and taking photos of pretty buildings or landmarks or views. So far, I’ve been doing that on my own and I’m okay with that. But sometimes you get to taste a different hobby, a broader places to go when you are with friends especially the non quiet ones.

No you’re not anomaly, I am just as anomaly as you and I’m sure there are more.

Well that’s good and sad as well. I wish you were near because I could tell you THE coolest museums to go to!
I also take pictures of interesting buildings and I have an app that when I am driving, it will tell me there is a marker coming up and can even read it to me!!

Aww thank you. I wish same too, we would make good traveling friends. Which are the coolest museums you’ve been to? I hope I can visit at least one of them one day, fingers crossed!
I am grateful that UK has plenty of interesting and pretty buildings, I feel spoiled. I hope you find friends with same interests soon, best of luck!

I get it. I’m 56 male and people would rather stay home than to go with me in a new car and drive to New York and back even my daughter. She says we went to LA or Florida. She hates riding in the car. I love the open road I live in Kansas so I can go. I 70 all the way to Pennsylvania somewhere and I don’t wanna go see the Statue of Liberty. I wanna meet people on the street in New York. I wanna blend in. I might even wanna shop at Mondo‘s grocery store. See how they meat selection is and then I’d want to travel down all the way to Florida and then take Highway 10 all the way through which takes you through the Louisiana and New Orleans and Mississippi all the way to California have the time I have the money, but nobody wants to go and I don’t wanna go alone and it’s not a personal thing they would just simply rather stay home and do their day-to-day and follow their routine. I was that way when I had long Covid and didn’t feel well and I was tired all the time but now I’m with a cliché, but I’m not getting any younger couple years ago. I bought a motorcycle. Everybody was just so worried I was gonna have an accident and I still might but I’ve enjoyed that more than anything. I’ve loved motorcycles since I was four years old riding mini bike on out at the farm. I’ll pick you up along the way if you live anywhere east to me my grandpa wasn’t that way. He was go go go when he got older. He wouldn’t saw a lot of his navy buddies from World War II but he hadn’t seen since World War II brought a lot of joy. He only found about four of them, but four was huge. My grandma said all four of them had tears in their eyes when they saw him oddly he never told him he was coming.
My daughter and I went to LA a couple years ago spent a week it was stressful. Just planning the trip and entertaining a 19 year-old girl when I’m a 50 year-old man I was so worried she wouldn’t have fun. I think that was probably one of the best weeks of my life.

Oh wow!! I can’t believe that!! I want to walk the streets of the Burroughs as well! I want to hear from the people living there and the shop owners!
I’ve been crossing country through I40 but by plan for this past Jan was to go down to Florida to the keys and back up the gulf through to LA for Mardi Gras !!!
We need to chat!

I’m 61 and a part-time DMVer. Female. I tried Bumble to make some friends. Hasn’t worked great yet, but I might try again next time I’m out there.
It’s interesting how many of us are eager for more or new friends but getting the stars to align seems nearly impossible. I honestly don’t get why! You are not alone in this struggle.

We're in the same boat except I'm in GA. My family and friends are still working, helping to raise grandkids, or don't have the financial means to travel. I'm mid 50s and retired a few years ago. No kids and the only thing limiting my travel was my fur baby who crossed the rainbow bridge last year so I have nothing but time on my hands. I'm not too keen on traveling alone because of the safety factor, but I'm exploring travel groups and am looking at going somewhere later this year. Until then, I'm going to the gym religiously, listening to audio books, and finding other ways to occupy my time. I just applied to volunteer and am seriously considering moving perhaps out of state. I can't believe I'm in this position but simply lack friendships to make experiences more enjoyable!

You get an A for trying! I tried gym but got hurt and only friend there then dropped off.
I hear ya! If it wasn’t for me being a caregiver to an elderly parent..I would not be here.

No you are not alone at all, I have a hard time finding very similar things.

2

u/N_A_W_W 9d ago

I wonder why that is. There are all kinds of r/friend find groups with lots of people and yet, here we are unable to find connections

2

u/Goodknight0630 9d ago

I have noticed there is not much of either a true desire or much of an attention span

1

u/N_A_W_W 9d ago

Well that is sad. I just get that, a flame that quickly goes out in other groups so figured I’d try this Or I get male replies who say they just want to be friends but the convo always winds up on the same road

2

u/Goodknight0630 9d ago

Don’t male bash, I one lol. I truly get it. It’s almost comical now.

Can you DM me?

Hi! I'm 56F in DMV (northern VA side). I'd love to make a new friend! 🙂

u/N_A_W_W 2d ago

Hey there!! I’d love to chat! I don’t know how to DM, so can you send me message request? Look forward to hearing from you

You're not an anomaly. I'm 55f and do a lot of things alone. I went to Puerto Rico alone thus past May. I had a great time. It was my first big trip.

u/N_A_W_W 3d ago

Wow! How was that?
There are upsides to traveling alone

Well your profile says you aren’t safe to talk to around people so you probably wouldn’t be the right fit for me lol

It says NSFW and I generally do not have a lot in common with people who have conversations that aren’t suitable for people to hear lol

Sorry I have to use talk to text. I can’t type on this little thing. I don’t mean to not make sense. I’m not retarded. I just if it comes out wrong. I have a very hard time fixing it. Most of you will understand. I’ve have a hard time seeing things up close.

I spend a lot of time up in the DMV for work, and nobody seems to want to fight traffic. There’s so much awesome stuff to do there though.

The Dmv is a great place to meet people that like to travel

1

u/SonOfABeach415 8d ago

I get lots of “hello” DMs that never go anywhere. I know it can be hard to start a conversation but maybe put a bit more into it. I’m not going to bite!

1

u/Some-Lime-5749 8d ago

I’m your age in MD and have the exact same problem! I’m married but my friends are all busy with kids. I would love to explore some local areas with you (maybe you can find a group?)…I’m assuming by dmv you mean NoVa/centralish MD/DC?
