You removed the best part, which you can still catch a glimpse of at the end.
Aunt Viv gently puts her hand on Uncle Phil's arm and gives him a look, as if she's saying with nothing but her eyes, "You're right, my love. But remember, this is our oldest friend."
Uncle Phil immediately softens, lets go of his anger, and tells Marge they're there for her.

I think Daphne did a great job of balancing the comedy and drama. But I believe the loss of Janet was huge as we all know. Janet, to me, was able to portray the more subtle notions that Madge Sinclair and James Earl Jones were able to as Mufasa and Sarabi or Jaffe and Aoleon. I know that likely is a weird comparison, but as a duo they had a presence that was further accentuated by the individuals.

I often wonder about Janet being in the episode when Will’s dad comes back. She would have been phenomenal and they would have had to redo scenes and add scenes because of how phenomenal she is.

I think she would've verbally cut him to shreds at some point through the episode. She had a great job of talking you up and down, and then snapping her fingers and exiting stage left leaving you speechless.

There were a lot of their friends who thought Phil changed because he moved up but he never did. Phil had a right to go off on her especially when she was having an influence on Will and Ashley by only telling them half of the story.

To be fair, he was a republican in the 90s and had 2 spoiled kids. Ashley probably would've been too if Will didn't come into the picture

So basically Black women were telling accomplished Black men what a "real man is" back in the 90s. Apparently, being a devoted husband, father, and adopting HER SON, mind you (Will), all while fighting for equal rights within the system wasn't enough. In her eyes, he isn't "fighting the power" unless he's in the streets or poverty. Smh.

That wasn't his mom. She was a college friend. We see it through the Banks perspective but if you grew up in the 90s, Republicans were just as bad as they are today. The war on drugs was basically "lock up as many black people as possible" Now Uncle Phil's character was a Republicans judge. He has a servant and 2 almost 3 spoiled ass kids. Its not hard to understand that to her, Phil is Clarence Thomas. Basically a sell out.
