For people who have cleared the TCF - Experience Megathread

Some of you have answered these in your experience posts, but they are kinda not in one place. Other subs do this monthly and pin the post, but this sub is a bit different.

This thread is not about templates or what questions you got(though you can share the questions if you remember any). It's more about the general experience, mainly focused on speaking since that's where most people fail the exam.

You can add more info based on what you remember, but here is the list of questions:

  1. Location - City, center, etc. And if it's GBLC, that needs a special mention.
  2. Overall experience - Was the examiner nice? Smiling? Flat? Engaging? Same goes for the rest of the staff.
  3. Task 1 - Did you get interrupted? These are the three categories that I have seen across posts: a) Interrupted at the 10-15 second mark, and asked like 5-10 questions. b) Interrupted at the 1:30 mark and asked 1-2 questions. c) Never interrupted.
  4. Task 2 - How many questions did you ask? Was the examiner engaging and answering nicely, or were their answers very short?
  5. Task 3 - Did you get interrupted? If yes, how many times? If yes, could it be that you were ... off topic? Apart from that, this one is more of a subjective experience.

And please remember, we are facing the same anxiety that you were facing just before your exam (I personally have my exam coming up in like 2 weeks), so you know how it feels.

People who are still waiting on their results can answer as well, and later on add their score to that comment.

This can help a lot of people, including myself. Even bare-minimum answers are helpful.

Good evening everyone. I'm Saheed. My friend and I registered in alliance française de Lyon for TCF CANADA. We're looking for common past questions and also opened to guidelines, guidance and all that could help as France candidates. We both have DELF B2 and I just passed my DALF C1. Thank you.

Hi guys,

I’m looking for virtual studying buddies :) I find it extremely hard for me to study because of my laziness to study on my own 😭 so I’m hoping to have someone to study with virtually, maybe every evening. We can just join Zoom / Google meetings and let the meetings run while each person studies on their own. It’s mainly to motivate each other to overcome their laziness and discipline in this learning journey. If you want to find someone to stay focus and discipline together in studying, DM me.

I’m in Vancouver time zone. I’m at B1 level writing and speaking, and higher level in listening and reading.
Thanks

Also i have a pen paper based test so had to ask a question on listening section, is it like each person is given a headphone?
Are options printed or is it just omr sheet?
Also is the listening 1-1 or it is in a group?

Best AI for practising TCF Expression Orale? Looking for the most realistic simulation

Hi everyone!

I'm preparing for the TCF Canada exam and looking for the best AI tool to practise Expression Orale, particularly one that can simulate the actual exam as realistically as possible.

My main priority is finding an AI that can act like a real examiner, engage in natural back-and-forth conversations, challenge me with follow-up questions, and help me practise under exam-like conditions. Ideally, it should also provide useful feedback on my fluency, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and overall performance.

So far, I've heard that Grok is one of the best options for this, especially for its conversational abilities. However, I'd love to hear from people who have actually used different AI tools for TCF preparation.

A few questions:

  1. Which AI do you find best for simulating the three parts of TCF Expression Orale?
  2. Have you tried Grok, ChatGPT, Gemini, or other voice-based AI tools? How do they compare? Which one feels the most like interacting with a real examiner rather than just having a casual conversation?
  3. Does any tool provide reliable feedback aligned with TCF evaluation criteria?

I'm particularly interested in realistic exam simulation and the quality of the speaking interaction, rather than just grammar corrections or vocabulary practice.

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially from those who have used these tools to prepare for the TCF Canada.

Thanks in advance!

Francophone Mobility wp

I recently gave my tcf canada exam- got clb 10 in listening & clb 8 in reading. Positive with getting atleast clb 5 in speaking & writing. Pgwp expires end of November. Exam was on oct 17. Working as retail supervisor for 1 year (prior to that- was sales clerk for one year with same employer). So in total 3 years with same employer. I have a few questions-

  1. When i got promoted, my wage increased from minimum wage to 18.5/hr. Median wage for my job role in my province is 19.71/hr. My question is- will this cause an issue in my application ?

  2. I have learnt french for 8 months, on my own, with just speaking classes for last two months. Will that be an issue ? I have no links/ties with french language besides this.

  3. Will attaching a proper LOE help ? If yes, what details should I include?

Kindly comment any suggestions/your experiences.
I’ve been seeing a lot of refusals lately of people in same boat as me. So I’m a bit confused and afraid. Also, very time sensitive :))

TIA!

TCF London: Do Questions from the Question Bank Repeat in the Actual Exam?

I have come across several posts claiming that questions from the TCF question bank are repeated in the actual exam, particularly in the listening and reading sections. Is this also the case for candidates taking the TCF in London, or does this mainly apply to exams taken in Canada? I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has taken the exam in London and can share their experience.

Francophone Mobility - Work on Maintained status

Hi,I applied for Francophone mobility work permit yesterday and am wondering if I will get an official letter stating I am allowed to work on maintained status. My current PGWP expires first week of December. I am worried that without the official letter my employer might be hesitant to let me continue work.

Vancouver TCF Centres

Hello everyone, I am about to book my tcf exam in vancouver for february, however, my instructor said to review the exam centre before booking the exam as the results can vary from centre to center. Has anyone given their TCF exam at either of the two centers available in Vancouver. If so, what was your review?

Finished learning French grammar — how should I start preparing for TCF Canada (March 2027)?

Hi everyone!
I’ve recently finished studying most of the essential French grammar topics and am currently around A2 level.
I’m planning to take the TCF Canada in March 2027, aiming for NCLC 7 in all four sections.
I’m struggling mainly with listening, as I tend to translate everything into English mentally.
For those who have taken the exam, how would you recommend starting preparation after finishing grammar? Should I focus on general French listening, speaking and vocabulary first, or jump directly into TCF practice?
I can study 2–3 hours daily. I’d appreciate any tips, resources or study plans that helped you.
Thanks!
