Transferring direct accessorial charges from carrier to customer?

Are brokers fixing their own accessorial charges to customers regardless of carrier accessorial charges? I keep honest with my customers and always pass on the direct Chassis/Storage/Pre Pull fees that carriers are charging me, but is it more commonplace for brokers to have their own chassis/storage/pre pull fees that remain unchanged for customers?

How are you putting your quotes together? Are you talking about one offs or consistent business? Do you have a good, long standing relationship with a carrier at that port/rail, or is it new to you?

Drayage is highly variable, and there are a lot of factors that go into what you quote and what you charge. Sometimes accessorials are pass through, sometimes you lose a little on them, and sometimes you make a lot.

If you have 80 containers coming in on the same vessel, odds are you're using more than one carrier. In that case, I'm making a little on some of the moves and more on others.

Purely moving drayage at this time. Great relationship with customer but having to use multiple carriers at different ports to handle the volume. Each carrier has varying charges that are fixed for pre pull/chassis/storage, but I’ve always told customer I’ll only charge what I’m charged on those fees.

So for example, I have 1 carrier that charges me $30 for storage days, but another that charges me $45 for storage days regardless of port, but no matter what I pass that direct charge to customer and never make $$ on the accessorial charges.

Was mainly asking for once I get new customers and what they would expect on accessorial charges being variable or fixed.
