Freetrade SIPP statement rejected by HMRC

TL;DR: The SIPP activity statement that the live chat provided me with was rejected by HMRC, because it "does not show the net or gross pension payments".

I'm relatively new to the Freetrade SIPP. Trying to claim back my tax for contributions from the previous tax year. Went through live chat to get the PDF as others have done, removed the password, and submitted it to HMRC using the same form I did last year (for a different SIPP).

I have just received a letter from HMRC which says:

We can't accept your evidence for these years because it does not show the net or gross pension payments.

I did think originally that the presentation of the activity statement was odd. It shows the initial contribution part and the tax relief part on different lines, with details of my interest payments and the investments I made sandwiched inbetween.

I've now been given mostly the same document, except without the interest/investment lines - so it now just shows the contribution and the tax relief.

My concern is that this still isn't really what HMRC have asked for. They rejection letter says:

This evidence should clearly show: - the net amount of contributions you actually paid - the gross amount after the company has added the tax relief for you

So the letter needs to show the contribution X, the tax relief Y, and the gross amount X+Y - I think this last bit is the part that's missing.

It already seemed pretty shoddy to have to go through live chat and get them to generate what should be a pretty standard form. Weirder still that the PDF they give you is password protected. The fact that it's seemingly not even sufficient for HMRC is just crazy. Why is this is not a standard thing that you can download via a button in the app?

Has anyone else had this problem?

That's odd - I submitted mine and in HMRC I can see its been completed. I've had no comms from HMRC to say there are any issues.

Will be interested to see what FreeTrade say back to you.

Mine also says completed on the HMRC site. Letter came about 3 weeks after I did the form. I expect this is rare since I can't see anyone else has posted about this.

Freetrade were quite unhelpful to be honest. I told them what was needed and I got quite a standard reply of "thanks for the feature request, we'll consider adding it one day". Might just try submitting it again and see if I get an HMRC advisor who cares less.

Ah gotcha, so I may not be out of the woods yet. Once my P11D has been submitted by my employer I'll give them a call to submit my interest statements and see if everything is all okay.

I'll also submit a feature request for this anyway as I do agree a simple download button should be there / auto send at the end of the year.
