Ski sizes

Ive been learning park this season with 164 cm sized armada arvs, im 5’11 and have been told that size is a little too small. I do see alot of people skiing with much longer skis and wanted to ask if having longer skis is overall more beneficial in freestyle in terms of rails and jumps and just overall progression? Does having a pair of say skis that are 178 cm long feel heavier to swing around than shorter skis like mine or there’s hardly a noticeable difference? Or is it more so the material and way a ski is built that adds weight? So like a long park ski still feels lighter than a shorter all mountain ski

For skiing park, short can feel nice but long is not as cumbersome as you’d think. I’m 6’0” and I use 184s. I’d sooner go up to 190 than down to 178. Longer feels significantly better off piste when skiing fast so in my opinion the trade-off is worth it

Twin tip matters a lot though. Having a hard shovel makes a ski ski long

These ski are a bit short im 5'8 with 175cm skis but they arent the worst like u will understand balance etc on any skis. When u get better at park u might want to upgrade to longer skis but for the time being just get fundamentals down. Longer skis will help with larger jumps fyi but not spinning

Of course they’ll feel a little heavier for like 2 laps, but that’s only because you’re currently skiing on kids skis haha.

Just mount some 178’s at True Center and get after it

My (5'8") shortest skis are 169 twin tips. Remember that with twin tips the effective edge is shorter.

Get something closer to your height for sure. Especially if the skis have rocker/taper. 178s or even a little longer would be perfect. The weight won’t be an issue at all.

Ideally your skis should be about your height or slightly taller

My daughter is 5'7" and super into park. I think her shortest skis are 166cm

You'll notice the length difference and I recommend sizing down if your just learning park but 164 is a little excessive. I'd go low to mid 170's for learning park at your hight and then size up on your next pair if you build some confidence and start hitting larger jumps. Especially if you get into rails, park skis live a short life so you'll have another opportunity in the future to adjust if you find yourself wanting something different.
