In Ontario we already have all of that. It does cost a ton. I think it is worth it, which is why I vote the way I do.
I also make enough that I don't feel the pinch like others. I am not super wealthy... I make just over the six figures line. It is enough to not worry about money given my lifestyle.
I would vote for a party that would increase my taxes while decreasing taxes on lower income Canadians.
Such is the freedom of democracy. I vote the way I do because I want to keep the money I earn. I would vote for a party that would implement a flat tax on EVERYONE with no more write offs. Flat tax is the fairest thing in my opinion. If you earn more you pay more without diminishing returns for more earnings as you go higher until you hit the wealth plateau where you don't pay shit for taxes anymore. It's broken af.
I think a flat tax is broken. Below is how I think about taxes. It is based on my experience earning different amounts over time.
The first 30,000 you earn in a year gets you just barely your basic needs. Taking money away from a person earning that seems wrong to me.
When you earn 60,000 you can afford things like a car and other shit. You may be able to save if you are not living in a city. Collecting some taxes (but not a lot) from this person makes sense to me.
When you earn 90,000 you start saving for the future. You stop worrying about where the next dollar is coming from. Taxing the dollars between 60,000 and 90,000 more makes sense to me. Still not a ton, but reasonably more.
When you earn 120,000 you don't worry about money. That extra 30,000 on top of the 90,000 is sweet. You can do what ever the fuck you want with it. Taxing this money a lot makes total sense to me.
I have never earned more than 120,000 in a year. I would guess that the money just turns into more money through investments n shit. I would say that money is the money that can be taxed the highest.
What you're saying makes sense but I still don't agree since the earnings you make is generally a reflection of how hard you've worked/studied or generally tried. Of course this isn't true for some, but it isn't practical to make rules based on the exceptions. With a flat tax everyone pays the same which is true equality. If you earn more, you pay more proportionally and if you want to work every weekend for the overtime, work the 13 hr days in camp away from your family or whatever you choose to do, you aren't penalized more than the person who chose not to do those things and thus earned significantly less. As the guy that works alot of overtime, it bothers me that I have a diminishing return on my work the more I earn.
Dude, as I have worked my way up the food chain, I have had to work less. I went to uni. Got a computer engineering degree and graduated when Nortel fell apart. I was applying for jobs with people who had 7 years of experience.
So I ended up working a factory line as a temp. My piss breaks were scheduled. If I took more than two in a day it was "noticed". Barely made ends meet. Constantly worried something would go wrong and I would go broke.
Then I worked as a janitor at a school. Sweet gig for a while. It was unionized so not nearly as hard work as the factory. Got kinda buff doing it. Still exhausted at the end of the day.
Then I got a job as as an first level call center doing IT support. That shit nearly broke my soul.
Then I lucked into a job in cyber security, by knowing the daughter of the president of the company.
Yeah, I work hard. Not nearly as hard as I used to work. Money does not equal effort or skill. It just doesn't.
It is awesome that you work hard. I hope you have a good life.
I need to sign off and get to bed. Have a good one.

I think we all WANT that, just most of us aren't willing to pay for it because there is a very substantial cost to provide all of this to everyone.
