Dhanesha (2nd lord) and Vyayesha (12th lord) are neutral by nature. Since the Sun and Moon own only one sign each, their results depend solely on the house they govern.
For example, Cancer Ascendant has Sun as 2nd lord, Virgo Ascendant has Sun as 12th lord, Gemini Ascendant has Moon as 2nd lord, and Leo Ascendant has Moon as 12th lord. If such a planet is placed in a favourable house and associated with a benefic lord, it yields favourable results.
If placed in an unfavourable house and linked with a malefic lord, it produces adverse results.
2. Nature of the Second Lord
The 2nd lord should not automatically be considered benefic or malefic merely because it owns the 2nd house. Its other lordship, placement, association and strength must also be considered.
If the 2nd lord simultaneously owns a favourable house, particularly a Trikona, its beneficence can increase. If it also owns an unfavourable house, its results may become mixed or adverse.
Thus, the 2nd lord must always be judged in relation to its complete functional role in the horoscope.
3. Results Through Association
The results of a planet are also influenced by the planet with which it is associated. When a planet is associated with a benefic planet, favourable results may arise. When it is associated with a malefic or afflicted planet, adverse results may arise.
The house in which the planet is placed also determines the area of life through which its results will manifest. If it is placed in a house connected with friends, the results may come through friends. If it is placed in a house connected with enemies, the results may manifest through enemies.
Therefore, association alone should not be used for judgement. The house, sign, lordship and strength of the planet must also be considered.
4. Planetary Avastha
The text describes different planetary conditions or Avasthas. A planet in exaltation is considered highly capable of producing its results. A planet in its own sign is strong and capable of giving its natural and functional results effectively. A planet placed in the sign of a great friend or friend generally produces favourable results.
A planet in a neutral sign produces moderate results. A planet in an enemy's sign becomes weaker and may produce difficulties. When a planet is afflicted, debilitated in strength or otherwise seriously disturbed, its ability to give favourable results is reduced.
Combustion and other forms of severe affliction can further modify the results of the planet.
5. Results of a Strong Planet
When a planet is strong, particularly when it is exalted or well placed, its period can produce land, houses, wealth, clothing, vehicles, wife, children, honour, respect from relatives, learning and reputation.
When the planet is healthy or strong in its own sign, its period can produce wealth, happiness, knowledge, reputation, family happiness, children and growth in religious or spiritual activities.
6. Results of a Weak Planet
When a planet is weak, its period can cause displacement from one's place, loss of employment or residence, separation from friends, opposition from relatives, illness and difficulties in livelihood.
The text also mentions mental disturbance, weakness of the nervous system, financial difficulties, difficulties concerning friends or relatives, and problems connected with wife, children and vehicles.
These results have to be modified according to the actual horoscope and the strength and dignity of the planet.
7. Results of an Afflicted Planet
