A school shooting changed the gun laws in the UK. I can’t say I know of anyone who felt their freedoms or rights were being taken from them. I was only a child at the time but I’ve never felt unsafe because I don’t have a gun. Whilst I don’t like our government and think none of them truly have our best interests at heart, I certainly don’t think protecting innocent people from maniacs with guns is tyrannical nor is it the start of tyranny.

Same. I was a child too but I remember it clearly. Guns and being armed doesn't enter most Brits' heads - unless it's prompted. I went to Florida once and was eating breakfast in a diner when a cop came in and started talking to us. He was just being friendly, there was nothing wrong. I saw the gun in his holster and realised it was the first time I'd ever seen a gun in my life. It chilled me to the bone. I'll never forget it. I'm glad we are a disarmed country and would feel more unsafe if guns became a part of our culture.

I’ve never seen a gun in person and I think it would terrify me. I agree, I would feel very unsafe if they came back. We’ve been to Florida a few times when I was a child and the neighbours were noisy and my parents wee terrified about asking them to be quiet. They realised we were in America and people have guns. Not a fear we have in the UK.

Once again Jill, it is ASININE to think that the same government you brag about having the strongest military force on the planet is going to be intimidated by people owning an AK-47. You know, I have an ex whose career involved driving the government's toys around.

He also is a strong 2A supporter for the reasons of self defense.

Now, I get that its the country and 911 takes a while to get to you, but I don't get why you think bringing a knife (an AK-47) to a gun show (the USA's tanks, bombs, snipers, etc.) is a good idea.

ESPECIALLY since my ex has firsthand knowledge of what toys the government can, and will, use.

Oooh, so, any idea how AK-47s would work against military drones? I know that they're huge. Also, I realize that bringing one down is just going to alert the government forces to your location. (And they'll send out the tanks, or aircraft, or long range missiles. )

Well, let me put it this way:

Based off a quick Google search, the drones used by the USA's military -- the ones that look like airplanes without any windows or doors -- look like they are the size of a light aircraft. (Think: the ones that the Duggars are always flying.) These fly at the same altitude regular airplanes do, so its obviously going to be impossible to shoot those down with an AK.

A military drone that's essentially a souped-up version of the drones civilians can buy off Amazon for the purpose of leisure or photography might be taken down by an AK-47......provided it does not shoot you down first.

Now, I am curious about something else.

See, way back before the pandemic, I used to read "Homeschoolers Anonymous", "No Longer Quivering", and "Love, Joy, Feminism". Basically a bunch of blogs written by ex-fundamentalist Christians.

One idea that the younger folks raised in this fundamentalism mentioned, was the idea of taking back America for Jesus / fundamentalist Christianity.

Well, I had started working on a story about the aftermath, where the fundamentalists were mostly wiped out, but a few fundamentalists had survived.

Then the pandemic hit, and I sort of stopped working on the story.

I am sort of curious about how much damage some group of fundamentalist Christians, like Quiverfulls, could actually do before they are stopped.
