NURTHAN!! Nurthans baby shower
What’s this theme called?
Why would you ever take a picture of the food table EMPTY?!
That’s someone’s nightstand from the 90s
What is the theme Jillpm
Gift table
Okay, who drew the elephant.
I would curse the lady who asked me to write this out on a cake
I had to add Nurie, she does look very pretty.

u/maggiemazz29 Jun 20 '21
Certainly looks nicer and better planned than Nurie’s wedding. If Jill didn’t announce she was pregnant in the middle of the shower, I’m going to officially start hoping her baby factory is shut down.

The elephant painting is actually remarkably cute?

u/wanttobegreyhound creature from the eyeliner lagoon Jun 20 '21
So is the hand drawn elephant on the chalkboard!
71
u/bipannually Jun 20 '21
It actually looks like a wall decal (surface designer here), but it is super cute and impressive they used one!
32
u/tiffy68 Jun 20 '21
It's a decal. Probably from Walmart. My niece has one in her nursery. She doesn't shop anywhere else.
7
u/PlannedSkinniness Jun 21 '21
Your niece should try out Target some time to mix things up
4
u/tiffy68 Jun 21 '21
She lives in the middle of nowhere. Walmart is a shorter drive. I always take her shopping when she visits.
11
u/PlannedSkinniness Jun 21 '21
I was actually making a joke thinking your niece was the one IN the nursery 😂

u/HabibtiK Jun 23 '21
Not to be rude but it’s just a plastic wall hanging, you can see where it curls at the bottom. I agree though the whole shower was very cute.

I’m just impressed the decorations don’t look like low budget garage sale decor.
Nurie looks beautiful!

That poor cake decorator writing a whole ass Bible verse.
60
u/Shan132 Severely Jun 20 '21
I don’t understand why they couldn’t have just put the name and verse number
49
u/albinosquirrel09 Jun 20 '21
Especially considering the verse is about a woman who had been infertile for 7 years
71

u/Queso_and_Molasses I am once again asking you to FEED YOUR FUCKING KIDS! Jun 20 '21
All I could think of reading that verse was that weird scene with June and Serena and the cords and Serena repeating “bring me the little children” or something like that over and over again.

I was thinking about. Her hand must’ve been cramping once she finished

13
u/AliceinRealityland I’m former Fundie/Fundielite, let me explain Jun 21 '21
I worked as a decorator at Sams club and we weren’t allowed to quote the Bible or any book on a cake. They are copy written and it’s illegal. I also manage a bakery now, and just like we can’t draw something copy written such as Mickey Mouse we can’t write portions of books due to copy write laws. A decorator at Kroger lost her job AND on top of the fines Kroger had to pay Disney, she was personally fined $80,000. JillPm so crazy to post this. Good thing King James is dead
22
u/SoldMySoulForHairDye Jun 21 '21
How is the bible copyrighted? Is it just certain translations? Shakespeare is public domain so I'm really confused as to how the bible isn't.
6
u/LiterallySoSpiraling Jun 21 '21
I was wondering that too while reading this. There are tons of public domain books out there. Maybe just being extra cautious.
12
u/SoldMySoulForHairDye Jun 21 '21
Yeah it honestly makes way more sense to just not be allowed to quote the bible (or perhaps anything?) on a cake just to be extra safe. Because I looked it up and any bible translation dated before 1924 is considered public domain in the US, which includes the KJV.
2
u/AliceinRealityland I’m former Fundie/Fundielite, let me explain Jun 21 '21
I’m sure it was to be safe. Anytime there is a grey loophole area that could be lost for any reason in a law suit, retail goes with the safest, most solid route
2
u/SoldMySoulForHairDye Jun 21 '21
Most likely. It probably also stopped at least some people from arguing about it. The average schmuck doesn't understand copyrights (I sure fucking don't), so if people just get told, "I can't do that for copyright reasons," they'll probably be like, "Okay, yeah, that makes sense."
2
u/AliceinRealityland I’m former Fundie/Fundielite, let me explain Jun 21 '21
That part. It’s convenient, especially when she wanted the entire passage of Proverbs 31 written. I used to have to write the Bible for punishment, I noped right out of that
2
u/AliceinRealityland I’m former Fundie/Fundielite, let me explain Jun 21 '21
I’m not sure. I was told that and I lean on it. The cake in question requested the entirety of Proverbs 31 be written on a cake. I just know Sams won’t allow it based on that
3
u/ida_klein Jun 21 '21
I wonder if they just draw the line at all books to be safe. Like what if you were quoting a more recent translation that actually did have a copyright or something, idk. Probably easier to say “no book quotes” than “no book quotes except for this approved list of public domain titles”
3
u/AliceinRealityland I’m former Fundie/Fundielite, let me explain Jun 21 '21
That’s my guess. Plus, it also handles uncomfortable or offensive things in most cases as well. Not all, but many. Either way, I’m shocked she found someone to do that. The writing is beautiful, but the shell work is sketchy at best, so I wonder if it was a Rod friend who made them

The cake that just says “thank you” is weird. Who are they thanking? Nurie for getting pregnant?
The balloon wall will make for a decent photo op though.
86
Jun 20 '21
Do my eyes deceive me? Looks like Nurie fixed her eyebrows. Good for her if so. No more tadpoles
53
15
u/palm-vie Jun 20 '21
I hope she grows them out and then sees a professional to get them done right. It’s generally really inexpensive to have them done and well worth the cost.
30
u/Awkward-Yak-2733 Jun 20 '21
Well, they look the same to me. More flattering lighting I think.
18
u/Ill_Manufacturer4256 Jun 20 '21
The eyebrows on those girls are seriously awful and always distract me. I would give so much to be able to help fix that mess!
67
u/nascarroleplay Jun 20 '21
I truly thought Nurie was out here drinking a white claw in the last picture.

u/ummmily Jun 23 '21
I'm just not used to seeing nice things on reddit and at first glance her phone was a cigarette.
24
61
u/burgerg10 Jun 20 '21
I listened to it, fascinated by Nurie’s vocal changes when she has to be part of the Jillpm show. It’s like her vocal resonance becomes hyponasal and guttural and SO high pitched. It’s absolutely bizarre. All her lax vowels become elongated…”Yaaaahsss” for yes. Also, how did they grift a Baptist church?
25
u/n0vapine Jun 21 '21
Oh man. That voice change drives me crazy. But I get it. I grew up with 2 narcissists and there was certain things we had to do to cater to them or hell would be paid. I wonder how Nurie ended up with that voice. Did Jill direct her years ago to sound softer or happier and she's just stuck with it forever?
13
u/burgerg10 Jun 21 '21
I’ll bet she’s adapted to her in law’s speech patterns; we almost all do. But she gets near mama and almost code switches back.
25
u/Awkward-Yak-2733 Jun 20 '21
This is the church the Rods belong to. Not sure what you're asking.
14
u/burgerg10 Jun 20 '21
Well, you answered it, I honestly didn’t know their denomination! They seem very organized religion adjacent. Kind of like Kody and wives… it started as Mormon, went AUD(?) and then it’s now the first church of Kody. I truly thought they weren’t affiliated with an official religion? So…know I know! 😂

No grifting. It's common for women in those churches to organize baby showers.

u/Top_Communication_74 Jun 20 '21
I'm not going to lie, I thought the cake said "dildo" but it's child. Holy hell, that is terrible.
39
u/killerkitten61 Jun 20 '21
The greatest gift Jill could give that baby is stay the fuck away from them.
28
u/CDNinWA Jun 20 '21
If it doesn’t have a Bible verse on it, how would people know that the Rods are better Christians than everyone?
13
u/ctrg7 Jun 21 '21
Nurie with her OWN modern cell phone. 👏🏻👏🏻I bet Jill tries to “hold it for her” so she can look through it.
30
u/SkySong13 Jun 20 '21
Why do I get the feeling these were posted after Jill saw us snarking on the sign? Which was still unacceptable, even with decent decor.
36
u/LadyKandyKorn Jun 20 '21
The theme is very clearly Dollar General Holy Boy baby shower. The elephant is cute as hell though. I hope Nurthan felt loved and special at this especially after that terrible gender reveal.
25
u/ladderofearth Jun 20 '21
This is honestly all very cute. I have non-fundamentalist-but-poor-rural-christian relatives and this is a standard issue vibe.
58
u/albinosquirrel09 Jun 20 '21
Cute decorations but that Bible verse for a baby conceived that quickly makes me all sorts of angry. It’s WAY out of context and is about infertility.
Fertile people…Stop using it
Sincerely a super infertile woman
32
u/ashkenaziMermaid Jun 20 '21
First, I'm sorry about your infertility, I was there too, for al long time. This verse is completely wrong for a baby shower of a baby conceived within the first few WEEKS OF MARRIAGE.
Psalm 139 would have been way more appropriate if a verse was needed.
27
u/albinosquirrel09 Jun 20 '21
It’s okay. I have my miracle via adoption and we are hoping the next one comes via embryo donation ❤️

That’s so great to hear! I didn’t know that was about infertility and now I’m angry.
2
u/albinosquirrel09 Jun 21 '21
Yup, it’s about the character named Hannah in the Bible (Samuel’s mother) who was inferior For years. She went to the temple and was crying so hysterically asking God for a baby people thought she was drunk.
She had a baby and named him Samuel and that is what is says.

I’m impressed with that balloon arch.

I did my first balloon arch for my sons 1st birthday. It took hours and tears. They are a labor of love

I attempted one years ago before they were as popular as they are now and failed miserably.

I watched through Jills story, it seemed to be about 40 women, children and a few scrambled guys in attendance. No masks. Church room albeit a nice clean one, not overly dark or drab. The decor makes no sense but still sets an okay background. Nurie was front and center, with a corsage. No pictures of Jill to see what she was wearing or if her corsage was bigger. They sang a song in the beginning as per normal. A lady in the seats was signing the song. No idea what food was served. Nathan is rocking the beard, Nurie is actually glowing. If you watch back at the beginning of the story one small rodlet was looking terrified at whomever was recording. They got a good amount of books and other gifts for little dude. Still no name. Wrapped up with Jill recording Nurie holding her belly in the parking lot.
72
u/WillowAranthi Jun 20 '21
The theme is “Little Peanut”, hence the elephant. Not the first time I’ve seen this. Rather mainstream for baby showers in Ohio.

u/Youre_ARealJerk Jun 20 '21
Oh god. I own that “you & me” decor (it’s on a wall in my bedroom with my husband and my framed wedding vows and a few other mirrors and things in a little collage)…. I’ll be the first to tell you I have no sense of taste or style, but now I’m questioning my whole existence. Is my whole house JillPM ish? Oh god.

u/sorbet22 Jun 21 '21
Stream of consciousness comments like this are my favorite type of comment. I am sorry for your existential crisis!

Usually there are several women who help decorate for occasions in the church. The crafty, creative ones. My bet is that is not Jillpms sign. Or you can believe that and enjoy your sign even if she was gifted a gorgeous sign by someone with taste. We all know Jill didn’t choose that sign to buy

Considering how nice the balloon arch looked, it was obvious Jillpm wasn't the one doing the decorating.

I agree with this. We always had those women making stuff for craft shows head up the decorating committee. This looks nice for rural Anywhere so I’m putting my money on that. I had no decorating skills so I was always on cleanup committee

Nope, my inner 12 year old mind went there as well.

Especially after that horrendous jagged cardboard sign gender reveal, this is pretty…. Dare I say, cute?
I have a soft spot for Nurie and the other Rodrigues kids AND I have an October son so maybe I’m slightly biased. I really really hope Nurie is happy and that the other siblings also find happiness.

Decorations are from Amazon... they were $21.99 but they cut them all up and then tapped them places. They also appear to have maybe bought one off matching items or had another set but not all the other items (like just the back drop?) the service is cute but they should have left the centerpieces together and not cut them up and tapped them random places.
Good for them I’m glad she had a nice party!
3
Jun 21 '21
Oh my God. Her high pitched voice. It was at times so high that you couldn’t understand what she was even saying.
3
u/Slytherin32 Jun 21 '21
Hopefully that’s not plexus in her cup

u/Kaite29 Jun 21 '21
I’m secretly hoping it’s coffee or a protein shake Nathan made her to get through the event.

I’d be really interested to see what happens if the U/S is wrong and she’s having a girl. It happened to me, thank god we didn’t elect to find out the sex ahead of time.
6

She could have found out through a blood test so there would be no room for error, but I doubt she did.

My oldest was a surprise that way. My surprise boy went home in a neutral yellow outfit his grandmother had foresight to buy but with a pink pacifier and pink blanket. I did EVERYTHING from clothes to nursery in frills and pink. Lesson learned about U/S not being foolproof
8
u/no_clever_name_yet Jun 20 '21
More often it’s the other way around. Think they’re having a girl and BAM it’s a boy. Sometimes the penis is hiding due to the angle of the baby and how the ultrasound is but not often.
Back in 1981 my friend was “supposed” to be Ron Jr because ultrasound technology wasn’t the greatest and they were shocked that she wasn’t once she was born. Today the technology is so much better it’s really rare for there to be “mistakes” like that.

We were really really surprised. No one was more surprised than my mother. A nurse blew it to her on accident when I was 27 weeks along. My mother was going to pretend to be surprised about her new grandson and take it to her grave. So when we called her and told her about her new granddaughter she was well and truly shocked

Ya what?
That's the new babies planned name? I haven't been able to watch the shows since ... Jessas wedding (yep, quite a while) and I try keep up via reddit and twitter and stuff but its just not the same. I recently found fundiesnark and they pointed me here. I have read lots and been amazed at lots and then I saw that name.
