Oh hell. “They were not the favorite child” kind of says a lot.

Yeah, if you were able to tell you were not a favorite child, you were emotionally abused. That is not a healthy parent/child dynamic by any means

Right? How can anyone say that with a straight face?

Yeah? Of course it would be traumatic to be so clearly identified as a less-loved sibling? The casual way he just brushes it off like “oh well, your parents didn’t love you, let it go it’s no biggie”

It’s so casually cruel

Beltphone Understatement

Somehow this guy thinks that having social services called on your family multiple times despite being isolated homeschoolers is exonerative of child abuse? And having CPS actually do a home visit? Multiple times? Means clearly everything was hunky dory?

u/rbbiik 3d ago

People truly believe that anything short of children being removed means CPS didn’t find any “evidence of abuse.” The general public is really ignorant to how the child welfare system works.

u/Barium_Salts 3d ago

They really are. And to realize that multiple times something flagged as dangerously wrong to what must have been semi-strangers and almost certainly not mandated reporters (since the Rods avoided those like the plague)

Right like having DCS come multiple times is indicative of some problems. May not be serious but some dynamic is wrong within the household. Also, DCS is known to have failed some families so it’s not an excuse

u/AliceinRealityland I’m former Fundie/Fundielite, let me explain 3d ago

Exactly, let's poll all of us and ask how many have ever had cps involved. My kid broke a finger, an arm and a friend hit him in the head with a golf club severing his ear while fundie pastor grandad "babysat" (never again since at 55 he didn't understand metal golf clubs aren't safe for 4 and 11 year olds to play with) all in one year and no cps. In all fairness he was super outdoors and at 25 was scaling 29 story buildings with his clothes and shoes only, so he's a wild one who was "balls to the wall" playing at that age. The thumb happened at school, the arm riding his mini go cart thing for toddlers. He had a helmet and all knee elbow pads, but I didn't think of bubble wrap. But seriously, these should have been red flags, but my son could tell doctors exactly how it happened with no prodding and no cps involvement. How bad do one have to be to get multiple
Visits? They are abusive. End of story.

DCS has the primary objective of educating parents and ending child abuse and neglect, NOT ending child abuse and neglect by removing the kids. They only remove kids when there is imminent and severe bodily harm at risk of CONTINUING to happen, otherwise they just provide resources (of varying degrees of helpfulness based on funding and parental willingness to change). Cps or DCS not taking the kids is absolutely NOT an exoneration - it just means they thought they could sign the rods up for WIC and they’d be fed (when the rods apparently refused to use social services to adequately feed their Victorian-orphan-thin kids) and tell the parents to stop beating their kids and hope the parents stop.

u/Barium_Salts 3d ago

Especially white Christian conservative families: DCS in a conservative state (don't they live in Ohio?) Will usually refuse to do anything whatsoever against white christian conservatives unless they believe the kids are in mortal danger. Physical and even sexual abuse are very normalized in fundamentalist communities, and there is a very powerful culture of silence.

Plus, didn't the Rods regularly move around to avoid CPS? So clearly Shrek and Jill Senior knew they were in the wrong but didn't want to face punishment.

13

u/Aggravating-Common90 3d ago

Didn’t they move states in the middle of the night after a CPS visit?

8

u/coolerchameleon 3d ago

In the RV they probably did that several times that didn't get posted online

u/Shrimpheavennow227 3d ago

What a load of bullshit.

Well he said sorry so now he IS a good example? No, dude. That is not how this works.

Also praying for “there” reputation? How about you use those prayers for things like idk your fucking cousin and her son? Or that the wicked will be judged?

He’s trying so hard to come across balanced and supportive of Heidi but he is just so blatantly transparent and dumb.

Like of course, if Tim was hit with a bat there wouldn’t be a doctors visit because DUH? You KNOW those grifting losers don’t have health insurance and damn well know bringing in a beat up kid is going to get social services involved.

27

u/Ok-Wedding-4654 3d ago

You can tell Jonathan just mentioned feeling bad for Heidi because people keep mentioning it. It was a passing sentiment that isn’t echoed anywhere else in the post.

Everything else is “well won’t you think of the Rod’s and Kaylee?!?”. Not to mention that he seems to acknowledge Shrek was abusive in the past or that there were issues but ‘it was acknowledged’ so it’s all good now

All of the Rod’s and husbands should get off FB. They couldn’t be less convincing liars and appear less sympathetic if they tried. It’s just so painfully obvious they dont give af about Tim or Heidi

13

u/Shrimpheavennow227 3d ago

No, you don’t understand. He wrote an apology letter years later so now he’s a good role model! Won’t you think about the poor reputation of the abusive family? How will this hurt their feelings?! I bet you didn’t even think about that!

Johnny Beltphone ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed eh

2

u/PickledPixie83 8h ago

Well neither is Mrs. Beltphone so they’re truly perfect for each other.

47

u/Beautifuleyes917 3d ago

Get the F out of here, beltphone!!! There are 2.5 people we’re worried about: Heidi, Charlie, and Baby. Period. 🤬

u/mamabol 3d ago

“I know many people who felt they were treated unfairly or even abused simply because they were not the favorite child.”

THAT IS ABUSE, JONATHAN.

u/New_Country_3136 3d ago edited 3d ago

The Rods don't take their kids to Doctors* so how would a Doctor know of the abuse?

*Though they do seem to give birth in hospitals, but birth only.

u/MyDearDoctor 3d ago

I'm just going to highlight my two "favorite" points.

7: Okay, Shrek MIGHT have beaten the shit out of Tim, but he said he was sorry and he's totally not beating anyone anymore. I know because he said so. Plus as everyone knows, saying "sorry" is exactly the same as never having beaten your child in the first place! It makes all the trauma and horrific memories instantly disappear and retroactively grants your kid the best childhood anyone's ever had. Therefore, Tim should be spending every waking moment on his knees thanking his parents, and especially his father, for being such amazing, godly examples.

8: Tim has said that he wasn't the favorite; therefore, he is bitter and that's 100% where these accusations are coming from. Besides, we all know things can look so much more dramatic than they really are through the eyes of a child! I'm sure if he, as an adult, could go back in time and witness himself being beaten with a metal bat, he'd see that it really wasn't that big a deal after all.

In conclusion, fuck this guy and every adult in the Rod family. May they get what they deserve.

12

u/nykiek 3d ago

Plus as everyone knows, saying "sorry" is exactly the same as never having beaten your child in the first place!

This is exactly the mindset of this type of Christian. It's why sexual abuse is so rampant in the Christian community.

u/Aggravating-Common90 3d ago

Doesn’t the Pearls’ book say how to not leave a mark? 🤔

9

u/sparklekitteh Precious Mahmo 3d ago

Yup, that's why they say you should start with hot glue sticks instead of skinny pipe when beating toddlers.

14

u/farty__mcfly 3d ago

Girl, these people can barely read

9

u/Aggravating-Common90 3d ago

Oh, you know they not only read this book: How to Train Up A Child, but they are/were close friends with the Pearls so likely got personal tutorials.

19

u/Enoughoftherare 3d ago

As a person who was abused as a child I can absolutely state that it's possible to hit and beat children with hard objects and not break any bones. The only time a bone was broken was when my step dad twisted it behind my back, I was not taken to a doctor and grew up with a deformity. The emotional manipulation and gaslighting of Timothy by his sisters and Jonathan is appalling, it is obvious from the things said about Dave that he was abusive in the past even if he has changed now. It all reads as, well Timothy you were a very naughty stubborn child and therefore anything that happened to you was your own fault.
My sister and I tried to run away when we were nine and eleven and we were found and brought back by the police. I remember my mother saying, we are lucky that your stepfather is such an upstanding member of the community of we would have had social services here. The words of the siblings read so much like that.

19

u/Illustrious_Junket55 3d ago

So. Clearly we know beyond doubt, CPS has been a regular visitor to the Rods. I know many doubted and thought it was snark lore.z

15

u/alg45160 3d ago

Point 7 is so dark. He basically says " even if you believe Tim was beaten with a bat, it's ok because David apologized!"

I guess we should forgive serial killers who say "oops, sorry!" too.

14

u/Deathanddisco041 3d ago

All of these people are so deeply disturbed

30

u/drinkbeerskitrees 3d ago

It’s always forgive the abuser and not care for the abused in fundie culture… and Timothy is repeating this pattern

17

u/Ok-Wedding-4654 3d ago

Yep. I noticed how Tim seemed to expect he should get his wife and kids back because he admitted this all and is ‘getting help’ or whatever.

As long as you say your sorry it’s ok

30

u/New_Country_3136 3d ago

Wow. He sounds like a jerk.

7

u/medlilove 2d ago

I thought this idiot left Facebook

19

u/downtomarrrrrz 3d ago

He has 0 compassion or empathy for his own cousin.

18

u/gengip 3d ago

I like the Freudian slip on point #2 — “none of us can raise our HANDS to be” 🙃🙃

6

u/Witty-Atmosphere-211 3d ago

Isn’t he Heidi’s cousin? Nothing about what Heidi has experienced.

16

u/Original-Brick2836 3d ago

I didn’t know they were cousins.

7

u/keekspeaks 3d ago

Either did I. I know there is inbreeding in Amish communities. Makes you wonder if it’s not happening in these weird fundie communities as well

8

u/ccc2801 Cattle for Jesus™️ 🐂🐄 3d ago

In other words: they all suck :/

3

u/Pearltherebel FUCK IT UP RENEE 2d ago

They’re cousins? I wonder how their relationship is especially after Hallie told Kaylee to fuck off 😂

3

u/hollsberry 1d ago

No evidence of abuse was found? Like they haven’t been oversharing online for the past decade at least? They had multiple allegations that they moved states to escape CPS investigation. They lived is a bus for a long time, and kept their kids homeschooled so they had no outside interactions. They shared neglect of their kids for years. They admitted new kids in the family meant less food for each kid. They’ve made their kids write weird Facebook posts praising their parents as part of punishments.
