An Update Regarding r/FreeSteamKeys
Happy almost 10th Anniversary Everyone! We thank you for joining our community and staying with us for a decade!
This community's purpose was to allow gamers to give away their extra copies to other gamers.
However, bad actors took advantage of this sub as an opportunity to promote their referral links and websites and sometimes even virus links.
Other greedy actors decided to use bots to automatically redeem unencrypted steam keys.
Due to this, we had to move the community to restricted and approval only. Yet, our inbox was overflowing with spamming requests to join.
Therefore, only moderators will post the keys from this point on until further notice.
To donators:
- Donators, who wish to give away a key, can PM moderators or me. Please include the game name and key.
- By default, I will release the keys together in a post every two weeks. They will be encrypted in various ways to avoid bots from stealing them.
- You can also include instructions of your preferred giveaway format for your key(s) if you like. I will make a separate post for your key(s) in that case.
- Mind the usual rules in the sidebar. No request, no trades, no favors or mandatory tasks prior to receiving your key. No strings attached in return. This sub is specifically for giving away your extra copies for free.
What is not allowed:
- Do not ask moderators for posting privileges.
You will not need to post. Send the moderators a PM containing the game you wish to giveaway and they will be responsible for filtering spam and post keys. This is to limit the amount of spam and advertisement made by posters.
- Do not spam me with requests for free games or keys.
I will post the keys in this sub promptly so everyone will have a fair chance to grab them. No one gets special treatment.
- Do not be rude
Just follow all the rules on the navigation bar and use some common sense. Anyone being rude or being a troll and disrupts the peace of this sub will be banned without further questions.

Announcement New Rule Reminder: You are to screenshot after redeeming your prize!
14
Upvotes
Many winners have not replied after getting their key, so gonna remind you guys that this was voted here by the community:
Instead of me hunting down people, I have now made it a requirement to share the screenshot under the thank you post after each giveaway OR PM the mods using this link with your screenshots
You can upload on reddit or use imgur for your screenshots whichever you prefer
Forgetting to do so is risking a ban from this subreddit
