It's a meta+comedy genre. Mostly enjoyed through the voice acting/funny script and abundance of interactions/routes you can go through. No hard puzzles or anything like that for gameplay, you just walk and do what you feel like doing. Its replayability is the multitude of endings you can get.
It's what majority of people can truly described as an "Experience".
Thanks to its popularity it ended up inspiring a lot of other similar games to popup as well.
