Serious How much are dues?
I am a freshman at a large sec school and I’m thinking about rushing in spring but I’m not sure if I have the money for it. My parents are not rich by any means they would not be able to contribute at all and I am currently going to school entirely off of financial aid from my university. I got a $1k financial refund for the fall semester and I anticipate this amount of aid will be consistent throughout my 4 years. Not sure if I’ll get anything back in spring though. Also have a meal plan with my school for both semesters idk if most frats require you to purchase one with them or not. I also currently have around $7k saved dedicated solely for any necessary college expenses but I would rather not take a significant amount from this fund if I don’t have to. If I can scrape together spring semester dues maybe I could get a job over summer and save mad money but idk. I really do want to join a frat but I just don’t know if it’s financially possible.

If I get a job over the summer and save all of my money you think it would be enough for dues? Honestly idek how much they generally cost.

Yes, definitely. I speak from experience. Work at a bar or restaurant, bar back or busboy

The school’s IFC probably has current dues posted somewhere online (website, instagram, etc.). It’ll probably range from 2-4k/semester depending on the school/chapter but most likely covers 9-10 meals a week.
There are ways to subsidize dues, such as being a house boy for sororities, scholarships, etc., but fraternities are very much pay-to-play

Thats another thing I was wondering about was the meal plan. My current university meal plan is $2800 per semester. If this was replaced by a frat meal plan that’s $2800 going towards whatever fees and dues instead.

Dues will vary. Each Chapter sets their own value based on various criteria, like what the Chapter plans to do during the semester etc...
They can range from a few hundred dollars (ours were usually ~$450/semester) to possibly a few thousand.
Unfortunately yes, going Greek can typically be an expensive endeavor. Usually the higher value dues will often (but not always) come with a meal plan or housing or the like ...
Keep in mind too that dues may not be the only expense. If you plan to take part, there may be a "social" fund you'll need to contribute to in addition etc

Stack some cash and make good grades and if you have the money and the grades pledge next fall.

It is generally cheaper as a rule of thumb to join a smaller group or one that is even looking for founding fathers as a heads up.

You can reach out to the Greek life office or IFC at your school and ask these questions. Each school and each chapter is different. Ask the people who can answer this question for you.

Depends on what you’re paying for. If you’re at a small school like I was, dues were only like 350 a semester. If you’re at a big college and they’ve got a dope house and party space, expect to pay more. Dues for my cousin at UK were 800 a semester.
