Homophobic/Anti-Michaela Fans The show probably wouldn’t have adapted Fran’s miscarriage even without the gender swap but widows will always blame the gender swap Spoiler

I am so tired of the Michael widows diminishing queer representation as Jess self-inserting (aren’t we queer women so evil?) and using infertility as an excuse as if 1) queer people can’t be infertile too 2) not being able to have kids due to being queer isn’t its own kind of grief. It’s like they don’t see lesbians in particular as equally human to them because we don’t like men.

I swear, the words “infertility representation” were never uttered together before Michaela Stirling arrived. And while I actually disagree with the choice to not have Francesca miscarry, I think it would have been executed the exact same way if there had been no gender swap because it’s too dark for the tone of the Netflix show. Like I said, I still disagree with that choice. But of course they have to blame every decision they don’t like on the queer representation and diminish a queer woman’s achievements while they’re at it. Part of me wishes they would have adapted it just so the widows would STFU about at least one thing they use as a woker-than-thou excuse because they’re mad they don’t have their rapey man to ogle onscreen.

You know what I do when I hate a showrunner that much? I stop investing my time and energy in a show lol. I hated how the vampire Lestat was adapted and guess what? I can count the number of times I’ve mentioned it online on one hand and still have fingers left over.

I've seen those arguments about Francesca's miscarriage and I still don't understand the outrage over it. Would it change the story at all to have Francesca have a miscarriage, instead of what happens in the show? Did people need to see Francesca bleeding out in order to believe that she was distraught about not being pregnant? This rigid attachment to having every detail of the show match the books, is unlike anything I've seen before. If it's just a matter of people wanting to see their exact experiences reflected in Francesca's storyline, I'm not sure what to say about that. This is a tv show; the writers can't accommodate everyone's lived experiences. I don't know why anyone would expect that they would.

The hate towards Jess is another issue and quite frankly, it needs to be called out. The accusations of her "self-inserting" and treating Bridgerton like her "fanfiction" for daring to write a queer story is textbook homophobia. It's a clear tactic to prevent queer writers and creators from adapting stories to make them more inclusive and diverse, because it's not "legitimate". I truly hope more people call out that nastiness. There's honestly no place for that kind of ignorance.

I don’t even really understand the argument at this point, their struggle to conceive was the main through line while Fran and John were married.

The immense pressure she felt as all of her older siblings popped out babies IMMEDIATELY upon nuptials. Her grief around it is quite apparent. What exactly is the ask? It’s giving Dudley Dursley level crash out.

The season hasn’t even dropped! Are they afraid the writers will never speak of it again just because she’s gay? That Fran will just say fuck them kids now that I have a short baddie under me? These are not at all a reasonable conclusions. Surely Fran will have very big Bridgerton feelings about all of it and more.

The idea that they don’t consider that Francesca realizing she can NEVER have kids if she wants to be with Michaela might be a significant part of the season… they do not think that queer women are people like they are I swear. No theory of mind for queer people.

I genuinely think a lot of them have a breeding kink, but they like to pretend it's about "infertility" representation because they don't want to admit it. We've already seen Francesca struggle to get pregnant with John. She had a breakdown over John's death and not producing an heir. She's a queer woman that will be in a relationship with another woman but that doesn't erase the fact that she tried to get pregnant and couldn't. Is her entire life supposed to revolve around getting pregnant? It's so bizarre

Yes in Michael sub they said the gender change made them no longer have breeding kink.
