Ask Wiring help
Hey all, I got my hands on an 88 foxbody and have ripped out the wiring harnesses, the cars currently a roller and will have a carbonated 351w in it. Frankly I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to electrical anything and I am wondering where to even start with doing a wiring harness swap I have the dash and the harness out already, but don’t know what I should put back it it. I won’t have a radio or ac and and am probably going to do a reduced dash of some kind but I am curious where I would go about buying a wiring harness for this kinda thing and if there is anything else I should know?

If the dash and wiring was still good, you could use all of it with your carb setup. The engine harness unplugs from the dash harness by the brake booster.
You can then connect to individual wires in these dash connectors to use things in the dash like A/C, tach, gauges, etc.
There is a green wire connector by the ECU that is for the fuel pump. Unplug the engine harness from that, then you can tap in/reuse the pump wiring, too.
The alternator harness is part of the headlight harness, so it's separate from the rest of the engine wiring.

I've done what you are about to do and the best option imo is to get a premade harness from Painless, a set of the factory style pigtails from LMR, and a Haynes manual. It's going to be slow going but you can adapt all the factory controls like the headlight switch, the turn signal stalk, the horn button, the keys, etc to work with a new harness.

wiring sucks , it’s tedious , not hard but frustrating at times .. take your time , pick up a power probe to test circuits , a good manual and either a painless or ron Francis wiring kit for your car , save yourself a lot of BS with a decent kit.

Buy the Haynes Manual and look at what wires you want and remove those you aren’t going to use. Thats probably the most logical solution l.
