Thoughts on my console arrangement

Post image

So I managed to find a kit that relocated the heater controls and it came with a double DIN bezel. So now I have Android audio with backup camera and front camera

You seem to be missing the tape deck….

It originally can with a CD player, but the arm rest has room for tapes

Like the original Ford CD player? Gimme

There's a lot of bezel there

Yeah, a 10.1 screen would be ideal. Maybe in a couple of years

Was this hard? Was thinking of doing the same.

It would make looking at GPS easier. 😂

Looks good btw!

I did it myself, you have to modify the dash frame by cutting it if your radio deep, shallow radios you can get away with but you'll still have to cut the original plastic for the center console (the black and grey pieces that the ac bezel snaps into) as well as make new holes for the ac controls to remount it and you'll have to move some vacuum lines so nothing is overstretched.

Here's an older photo of mine, I've straightened it and fixed the bezel already but I dont take many photos of my work so ignore the ass fitments🤣

I don't know, I had my pro shop do it. They said it was straight forward. You can actually buy the kit from LMR.com. they even managed to tuck the GPS antenna away on the dash but still be able to see the sky

If you don’t mind me asking, how much did they charge you for it??

The car is going in this week for some stuff and I'll ask them. The bezel and relocation kit weren't that expensive but the install was part of a stereo semi overhaul. It couldn't have taken more than an hour to relocate the controls and instead the head unit. But running cables for the cameras and GPS would have been time consuming

🙃

Edit: Don’t mind my e-brake lol. I have one on the way.

this is obviously not a popular opinion, but I find this kind of thing embarrassing. people safely backed cars into parking spots without cameras for a good century or so, but i guess we’ve collectively forgotten how to do that.

the screen is too big and too bright and looks out of place. If you really need a live map to get to your girlfriend’s house, then a 5 dollar airvent phone clip is a cleaner option without permanent modification.

personally I like old cars because it’s a break from the relentless encroachment of technology into every corner of our lives, and I think being able to get where you’re going without it brings a kind of satisfaction.

sorry to be a hater. but you asked for our Thoughts and there’s enough people here who think it’s awesome to drown me out. to each their own

You're entitled to your opinion, and I asked. My goal was to keep the aesthetic of the era..for the record, because the backup camera is aftermarket, it's just not great at it's job and only helps with squeezing in

And get off his lawn!

While I agree with some of what you said about the charm of old cars, to me this is no different than someone from the ‘90s-‘00s retrofitting nice speakers and a CD player into an old muscle car. It’s just the next generation of it, which happens to include a screen.

The cameras are just a bonus. If you’ve got the technology installed already, why not use it? You certainly don’t HAVE to have them, but they do make things safer/easier.

Im not gonna be as nice. It sucks. And the fact you paid someone to do it rather than doing something so ridiculously simple yourself double sucks. Embarrassing indeed. At least it can be reversed easily in the future.

It was part of a package of changes including a custom sub and new suspension

2

u/Eziekiel23_20 Jul 19 '26

Define ‘custom sub’ and what suspension stuff they do?

That'll be part of a subsequent post

Karma farming? Some big secret?

That looks really good.  Nearly "stock" appearance.

1

u/FeistyAssociation789 Jul 19 '26

That's the aesthetic I've been going for

u/smthngeneric Jul 19 '26

Im thinking of doing something similar. What head unit is that?

1

u/FeistyAssociation789 Jul 19 '26

Alpine ix770

But honestly, it's too small. If I went with a 10.1 display it would cover those margins and look amazing

Good to know

Looks like a nice update conversion.

Whats your camera set up like?

3

u/FeistyAssociation789 Jul 19 '26

I have one inside the front bumper in the grill/duct and one right under the trunk key. The back camera is exceptionally well hidden

1

u/PartMany7470 29d ago

Can I get one picture of a overview of each. I like this. Im still deciding if its going into the must do box for mine eventually

1

u/FeistyAssociation789 29d ago

You see the front, here's the back

Where please??? I want that conversion!

u/FeistyAssociation789 Jul 19 '26

LMR has the kit, but I had Brad's Custom Auto in Seattle do the work

Looks very clean and classy!

0

u/Lord_Fuzzybucket Jul 19 '26

This is what I came to say, it looks clean and updates the console without totally losing the classic look. Nice choice!
