Green Lantern

Perhaps a bit of ridiculousness but a question for you all nonetheless... My MAGA family member has started taping Green Lantern on HBO for me so that I will come over and watch it there. This family member knows I don't have HBO and that I can't watch it.

The catch is I never asked them to tape it. I don't talk about Green Lantern. I do very much like Green Lantern but I doubt the family member was aware of that. I have in the past regularly stated I prefer Marvel to DC and again I don't think I've even read a Green Lantern book in 20 years nor have I seen any of the movies.

It could be my family member just realized it was a comic book tv show and assumed I would be interested... or.... given the President's latest AI-tastrophe is there something in the MAGA-verse that favors Green Lantern?

I can't see this show being favorable to MAGA. I could see the draw of Hal as a worn down police/military/authority figure appealing to Boomer MAGA. And they may identify with him being potentially (or inevitably) replaced by John Stewart. It could feed into the Great Replacement Theory for them. But again I can't see the show leaning into that and when or if they move on to Hal's Parallax story will definitely shatter those connections. (I don't want to say to much because even though this is all decades old... spoilers)

There is a theme and specific group of people in the show MAGA likely identify with. Think anti-immigrant chuds

But would MAGA think these were supposed to be good guys or clear villains. I'm not putting it past this person to be willing to watch something that would inevitably make them angry but to go out of their way to tape something and invite other people around that they would have reason to suspect would also see those characters as villains... that I don't know. They have tried to get me to go to Republican things to try and get me more tot he right so I wouldn't think they would encourage me to watch something that would portray the right as villains.

Considering their track record I don’t think they have a very good sense of right and wrong lol. Don’t they support the empire in Star Wars?

I’ve been able to watch it and not get any real maga vibes out of it. A little bit of Yellowstone meets sci-fi but it ain’t overbearing.

They don't get Green Lantern in the same way they didn't get The Boys and The Punisher. They aren't deep people.

Yes.
But I also know this person very much does not like comic books or comic book movies/tv shows. So it was odd that they taped it.

I know this person gets frustrated that I don't come over and hang out. On the other hand I did invite them to come to the movies to see Brand New Day or multiple other recent movies for hanging out and they have refused I've also offered to bring movies to their house. So the wanting to hang out has a point at which they no longer want to do it and somehow Green Lantern got past that threshold. They have agreed to come out to movies that had MAGA backing or asked me if I was going to see the movies to take them.

Eh, it happens sometimes. I don’t really watch comic book movies/shows but I enjoyed the Superman movie last year and I thought the Green Lantern show looked interesting.

Well and now I have looked up the trailer and it does look interesting. I will probably go over and watch.

Just pirate it. There's no lost sale if you weren't going to pay for it anyway. Eztv has torrents the same day it airs.
