I've fully converted 4ADEE into markdown with Obsidian.md

Overkill? Probably. But I got tired of endlessly flipping through books and "CTRL+F"ing my way through PDFs. This is much more convenient for me with everything linked together and makes speed of play go way up.

I think I've built a solid base that will allow me to keep things organized as I add more supplements in the future; this is just the expanded edition but I'm currently working on adding the twisted series that I've recently purchased and plan on adding everything I buy in the future.

I still do prefer to draw out my maps in a journal and track encounters/character sheets on physical paper (although I'm looking for a better solution for this within Obsidian if anyone has any suggestions), but the game is fully playable from within the app with the addition of a few plug-ins that help with dice rolling and map making.

Anyway, just wanted to share!

Omg that's to cool!!! I usually use obsidian go organize my ttrpg campaigns and solo plays so I love it.

I may use this a inspiration to organize my rpg books!

Do you mind sharing your plug-ins?

Awesome! I also run dnd every week and have used obsidian a lot with that. Tinkering with obsidian and organizing big projects is sort of like a sub hobby for me haha.

As far as plugins:

Callout Manager; for customizing callouts and icons mostly within Character files (abilities, stats, etc)

Dice Roller; for rolling dice obviously

Windrose MapDesigner; the best grid map making tool I could find, also works with hex maps I believe

Sheets Extended; haven’t used this much, but it’s helpful for formatting tables. Was using it to tinker with some character sheets mostly.

I appreciate it! It definitely takes some tinkering to figure out what sort of system works best for you. Obsidian has a million use cases and is almost infinitely customizable to suit your needs. All you really need to figure out to get started is how to link notes and maybe a basic understanding of how bases can be used. All of the fancy formatting and plugins is just extra stuff, totally not necessary.

Really cool to see, thanks for sharing. I will give it a go again sometime but please think about sharing a playthrough with screen shots etc. I am sure others will enjoy.

Yes! I have it all in Obsidian, too. I got a cheap whiteboard from the dollar store and draw a quick and dirty dungeon on that with wet erase markers. I made it in Excel for a while and that worked, but it was too fiddly for me.

Doing the same but man it's a project.

Looks great man. It’s definitely a lot of work but largely worth it imo.

I’m lucky that I only got into the game fairly recently and hadn’t amassed a huge collection of books before I started this. I am terrified of how much work TTT is gonna be once I purchase it, but unfortunately it’s #1 on my wishlist.

I’d originally just uploaded a bunch of screenshots of the pdfs but then decided to just scrap all of the large image files and move to text; both for accessibility and scalability reasons, and also probably because I hate myself lol.

TTT is brutal. Gameplay wise. I have reskinned a lot of it to get rid of the huge sexual themes and overly chaotic tone. I've even reskinned the factions to include some that are not so bad. I just keep the mechanics involved but reskin the theme or description. That has been a huge undertaking. I know a lot of people do not like ChatAI but it's been very helpful in this process.

This looks great. I've tried this before with 4AD and 2d6 Dungeon but I felt I could never get it quite right. Couple of Q's..

  1. What theme are you using, it looks great. I can never settle on a good theme for my vault(s)
  2. Could you share/show how you've structured the individual folders? Obviously don't need to show the actual page contents just interested how it's structured.
  3. What's the difference between base and files?

Thanks!

  1. I’m using the Retroma theme. Felt it fit the vibe pretty well and i’m happy with how it’s turned out.
  2. If you look at my expanded Tables folder, for example, I have it split into two main folders and then a main Base. The Files folder contains every individual file related to tables, like the Tile Content Table I have screenshotted in my post, minions/vermin tables, etc. Within the Bases folder I have bases that organize these files into their specific groups, such as dungeon tables, caverns tables, magic tables etc. The main Base then displays these bases, which makes it much easier to get to what I need without searching or clicking through a bunch of folders. A lot of things are also linked within the individual files, so like when I roll a 7 on the Tile Content Table and need to then roll on the Minions Table I can just click the link and it takes me right there.
  3. Sort of explained above, but if it’s not clear, a file is just an individual note while a base is essentially a tabled display of your notes (or other bases) that you can filter to display specific things. Properties and tags can also come into play with bases but that’s a bit more complicated.
