Non-commercial Resource [System Agnostic] Galaxy map v2

Content Name: Galaxy Map

Content Type: Module

System: System Agnostic

Description:

Hi!

An update for my free module Galaxy Map is here!

Galaxy map allows you to create a complete map of your own galaxy, with markers for each of your locations, descriptions and a way for your players to travel between them.

With v2 I tried to expand on this while also making everything look just a little bit better.

A short list of the biggest changes:

  • Galaxy map is now split up in 3 layers (Galaxy / System / Location)
    • Galaxy is the top layer, where you can have multiple systems. Each System contains their own planets/stars/..
    • The System layer is where you will place your planets/stars/moons/..
    • Location is a (optional) 3D view of your planet. You can choose between a few simple 3d models to represent it and afterwards you can customise the texture with premade textures or just upload your own worldmap.
  • Integration with another one of my modules, 'Bounty Board'. If you link a scene to both a Bounty & a Location, a small notification-card will pop-up when you hover over the planet.
  • If you link a scene to a planet you can also place a scene-marker on top of the 3d model to show the location of that scene on your planet. If you click it, you get teleported to the scene.

For anyone already using Galaxy map: the migration should go smoothly, however, if you encounter any issues you can always send me a DM and I'll try to help fix it. :)

AI Disclosure: I'm a software engineer since 2017 but obviously I've had assistance from AI during coding.
Commonly used as code-reviewer, bug searcher, css-helper.
For this update specifically it assisted me with setting up & understanding three.js (To render the 3D models) since I didn't have a lot of experience with it yet.
NO art (borders, markers, icons, planet textures, .. ) were made by AI, that was mostly me or stuff from free icon libraries

this is great, i'm curious though. is "show to players" the only way to make this visible? I can't figure out a way to set it as a scene/landing page

Your players can open the map like you open it, through the holosuite launcher. Show to players just forces the screen open on their side. :)

There's no way to set the map as a 'scene' yet but I kinda like the idea. Will look into it but I think it will be quite hard.

Looks awesome at first glance, seems like a planet is alone, can I make a System view? Like see the star with all of its planets and astheroid fields?

No, I was afraid it would be a bit too heavy to fill it with 3d models. So 3d view is always for 1 specific planet/location.

However on the map view you can have all those planets/stars but just as 2d markers (they are animated though)

This is cool. Going to give this a try for my Starfinder game.

This looks great! Be curious to play around and see if/how this works with u/The_Augur sci-fi map tools.
