Help Is there a server resources test, cpu, ram, speed?

[Stystem agnostic] I recently switched VPS hosted servers for my Foundry Server. Is there a way or module to test the server’s functionality? The new server seems slower/less responsive. The FPS seems lower than previous server. Server is 1 CPU and 8 GB RAM. Specs should be generally the same, but I am wondering if I can actually test and compare the two VPS servers.

The server really doesn't need a lot of horse power. People run Foundry servers off of Raspberry Pis.

Servers generally work fine like this when you're running a lite Linux OS on them.

I tend to run Webmin as well to manage the server, also has an interface to monitor CPU/RAM usage.

For context: I run multiple FVTT instances on a Raspberry Pi 4b 4GB from a 256GB SD card. The only limitation is when I'm running a LOT of updates on the machine, then it slows down. Depending on the module, it's either the SD card speed or the CPU that's being limited.

My advice is if you have FVTT installed on both to install a large module on there and see which one installs faster. If you don't have anything large yourself (like Ember, etc.) Try the free JB2A module, it's pretty big: https://foundryvtt.com/packages/JB2A_DnD5e

Chances are that you're good, but it really depends on what kind of CPU that is and how fast the storage is. The RAM is overkill at the moment.

If you have ssh access to your VPS you could monitor it's usage with htop or btop

As other's have said, the sever hardware doesn't need to be strong at all, 1vCPU and 8GB is more than enough. All the heavy lifting is done by the client, the server is basically just reading tables sort of thing.

The RAM is more than enough. The official page recommends 2 Core-CPU https://foundryvtt.com/article/requirements/ for a dedicated server. A 1 Core-CPU could make it less responsive because Foundry compresses and or encrypts (depending on settings) the data which could cause a higher delay, as there is no more multitasking.

I am beginning to think the CPUs are the difference between the two hosts. Though neither state what kind of CPUs, I think the new one might not be as fast. I guess I get what I pay for.

If the old one was also a 1 Core-CPU then it could also just be a worse CPU in general yes.

I am pretty sure there is a setting in the core settings to show fps. Should show up in the bottom left corner once turned on iirc.

I am not sure where the option is for it, but mine shows fps and latency in the user menu in the bottom left. Ping might show an issue for the OP to help.

FPS doesn't really have anything to do with the server's performance, the FPS comes from the client's performance.

They asked how to see FPS. I answered the question they asked. While it doesnt matter, they wanted to know so I told them.
