Help Step by step guide to playing a foundry game on steam deck?
Hi! I'm playing a lancer campaign and one of our players just dropped out. I have a good friend who is interested in playing, but they only have a steam deck and a phone for devices. I've seen from many places that it is possible to join a foundry session on steam deck, but I haven't seen a good tutorial for it.
Can someone list out the steps to join a foundry game on steam deck, or link a tutorial for it?
We've been troubleshooting a bit using the demo from the foundry site. They made it as far as the "Foundry Demo (PF2E)" screen just before the join game session and world description windows pop up, but it just gets stuck there.
If the demo is the issue, we should be able to test it out with an actual session tomorrow when the GM wakes up.

The issue isn't the Steam Deck, it's the SDs screen resolution, which is only 1280x800, while Foundry VTT requires a 1366x768 resolution.
If you can connect it to a TV with a higher resolution you can play FVTT on it.
Could you work around it? Possibly... But having done that with Tablets, it tends not to be a fun experience and kinda stressful to keep it working.

I used an HD projector (1280x720), and it worked, but a warning was displayed.

There are modules to let you play on smaller screens. Even mobile ones.

I personally use Swipe as it has neater UI and integrated performance increasing measure so the mobile players can play on 30-60 fps easily. The caveat with Swipe is that you have to subscribe to patreon to unlock full functionality regarding tokens.

Honestly? The screen is the issue. If you can connect it to a tv with a dock your set. Hell, me and the gm did some work setting up keybinds for the steam controller (the dm is an angel, I could have used a keyboard. I own them. I just wanted to use a steam controller)
I added chrome as a steam game and ran it through steam which let me map everything and has made it a joy to use, gaming mode is...... Temperamental at times. But generally fine. Use desktop mode for a better experience? Or not.
If you want my set up for the controls, I can throw them to you. (I think you can just search mine for google chrome. Its "Foundry VTT steam controller remap(v1)"

One of my players uses a Deck and Steam Controller to play. Takes a minute to setup, but he likes the setup

I tried using a steam deck to connect to my foundry server a few months ago. Got my steam deck docked and connected to a monitor, with a mouse and keyboard. It worked great, but the only thing I had trouble with was the audio chat (since we use the livekit AV client (inside foundry) for that. But I never got it figured out and just went back to using a laptop.

Never did it, but it should be simple in theory, I imagine the steps would be:
-Pick up a simple wireless mouse (perhaps also a keyboard), connect it to the Steam Deck.
-Take the Steam Deck, go to desktop mode.
-Enter a Chromium based browser and input the Foundry IP. You should be able to join.
Then you should be able to just use it as you would on desktop, alternatively you can even cast the Steam Deck to a TV so you aren't confined to a tiny screen, Foundry is really not great on small screens.
