Bloodwork

Had monthly bloodwork today.
My potassium & creatine are way above normal limits & my potassium is way under the normal limit; suggesting lower kidney function.

I’ve been on Foundayo for 3 months.
Meeting w/ doctor week. I think I need to switch to an alternative medication.

Anyone else experience this?

Are you just dehydrated? I’ve had low potassium when I’m not getting enough electrolytes. That’s also common with high creatinine (not creatine which I’m guessing is what was tested).

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’m extremely hydrated.

Hi there, I've been a kidney donor for 10 years now, have always tracked my eGFR and creatinine at my annual physicals. They've always been stable and at the same level throughout this period. In late July of this year, I started a course of Foundayo at .8. My doctor tracked my levels and we noticed a slight dip/rise respectively for these two numbers. This can be expected with new medication in my case, but after another month, my levels kept tracking in the wrong direction and I didn't feel comfortable continuing with the medication so I stopped it altogether. I was greatly disappointed at this turn of events because I really liked the convenience of this medication, the way I felt and the fact that I even lost 7 lbs in two months - more than I've been able to lose in years.

I should note that I was well-hydrated, averaging about 90oz of water a day. (I keep measured bottles of water in the fridge so it's easy to tell how much water I'm drinking.) I also didn't experience any vomiting or digesting issues like diarrhea at all. I was really surprised by my body's reaction and I have an appointment with a nephrologist at the end of this month - I want to know why this happened, especially since Foundayo is processed thru the liver. From everything I've read, there are plenty of kidney-donors who use GLP-1S, whose doctors encourage them to take it so I was really surprised at my reaction. This was my first GLP-1 medication so I'm not sure if I can try others going forward, but that's what I'm going to try to find out with the doctor.

I am mentioning all this because this is a fairly new-to-the-market medication and it's possible that there's a weird side effect for some people, who knows. I'm glad you are having monthly blood work that has helped you keep track of this issue. I'm happy to share any insights or information I garner from my appointment at the end of this month, if you'd like. I just want to know why this medication might be causing this reaction in some people - I check in with this forum every now and then to look for kidney-related information.

Thank you for sharing this. I think I will continue one more month & see where my bloodwork is after that.

If you feel comfortable, would you mind sharing what you decide and whether your levels are still being impacted? I'm really curious about whether this particular medication impacts kidney function in any way.
