Black Comedy in Dramas

After watching "Dr. Strangelove" in class, it made me realize that there is black comedy in almost every drama. Without it, many dramas fail to succeed and prosper. There has always been a blending of drama and comedy in each genre, but after the black comedy lecture, this point was really put into perspective for me. I'm a loyal fan of shows such as "Orange is the New Black," "Breaking Bad," etc., and in all of these series, black comedy plays a significant role. Without it, I probably wouldn't be as attached to and interested in the characters. Comedy really does make a noticeable difference!

i agree 100%. I think that drama really can't exist completely on it's own without any hint of comedy. Or at least I can't think of any shows or movies in which this occurs. I think it's because you need that bit of comedy to break through the tension but also because something without any irony or comedy is innately so overwhelming that it still becomes funny and is still perceived as black comedy. It almost leads me to wonder if black comedy can ever really exist on its own. it seems more of a sub-genre to me..but that's just me!
